Hi Ric, I see you have some good old sleepers as we call them in Australia. When I was a young man my father and I use to cut them for the railways…. Yes! Never go on government property without authorisation! Otherwise your in big trouble…

Hey Wayne! When y'all cut them what was the standard length there? Here it is 9ft 6in. They work great for ground contact barriers but also we use them to cross ditch and creeks too. It is a big deal here being on railroad right of way. I have never acquired these while the track is busy but luckily we have some that are on lesser traveled sections of track. Quite expensive here now to purchase. From my conversations with the RR they auction off the piles and they are handled from there. Great way to save money and be resourceful.

@@CornucopiaFarmstead Hi Ric, from memory ours are around 8’ give or take an inch? It’s been a long time since I helped my dad cut them. They are pretty expensive down here as well and to go on Railway property is a big no, no… they have a very strict policy on anyone entering government property. To work on it you have to do a special course and be certified these days. People lucky enough to Aquire any for gardening or building stuff around their homes love how they last as they are Australian hardwood! And last a very long time.
