I’ve been waiting for this! I like the attention to detail Kubo did. As someone mentioned here, his Bankai literally means God Killing Spear. Gin’s battle with Ichigo was an excuse to use his bankai and keep it in that state for this moment while also having Ichigo retreat to level up in case he fails at killing Aizen. And lastly I just love how both Gin and Rangiku’s zanpakuto abilities have them turn to dust/ash. Such a beautiful yet tragic story.

The only thing Gin really cared about was Rangiku. She had a piece of the Soul King inside her soul, and Aizen took it from her to create the Hogyoku. After he saw this, Gin dedicated his entire life to getting that piece back for Rangiku. The Soul King piece was melded together with her soul so removing it by force damaged her soul permanently. Originally she was supposed to be captain-level strength. It's crazy how she was able to become a vice-captain even after getting nerfed heavily. Another cool thing is how both Rangiku and Gin's abilities have a mist/ash attribute, signifying their love for each other.

Imagine how hard it is to let those who loved and respected you believe you betrayed them and dealing with them coming at you with intent to kill. It makes all of his interactions more significant too. From "letting the ryoka escape" in soul society, to all of the nonlethal attacks. He let people take shots at Aizen saying "I didn't think you'd need my help" and even tried to reignite Ichigo's fighting spirit.
