Now that WE knife has this level of machining quality, I hope they can start focus on better heat treating protocols. Specially for the coated blades. $300-$400 for 20CV/M390 at 58-60 is wild when we are closing in on 2025. IF they can't hit that 61-63HRC on 20CV/M390 or at least 61-62HRC. The steel don't really perform before around the 61 mark, so hit that or move on to a different steel they can put an optimal hardness on. I know it ups the production cost, but they already charging so much for these models. The people using their knives want performance, not display pieces.
@bornonthebattlefront4883Ай бұрын
Unfortunately, 59-61 is the industry standard for m390/20cv Idk why, but it is WE is definitely capable of 60-62 HRC, but it’s all about getting their massive production moved over to that kind of heat treatment That and WE has had this level of machine work since late 2022 - early 2023 It’s just that it’s taken a hot minute for a lot of people to realize? For whatever reason But yeah, I think the industry as a whole needs to move to 60-62 HRC with M390/20CV That and WE should look into using S110V, S45VN and CPM154 The millionth 20CV blade is getting old That and with Civivi knives hitting the 110$ mark nowadays, might as well give us CPM154 at 130$ 🤷🏻♂️ WE moves slow, but when they do, they make a big splash

@@bornonthebattlefront4883 Very true. They actually had really good machine quality for a long time. If you remember some of their earlier models maybe 7-9 years ago, they had some cool models with more complex rock patterns and other cool machining. This was back when they still used proprietary hardware, those star or triangle shaped ones if I'm not mistaken. However, their tolerance and pivot action have certainly improved since around 2022. But that jump in price from $200 to $280+ for the more basic models is a bit much (some are justified).
@sphyre1196Ай бұрын
All fair but what percentage of buyers of a WE knife can even reliably test the HRC value? I know I sure can't and I doubt it's super relevant to me either. Rather have something I am actually capable of sharpening than some Rockwell queen that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference of.
@Cid_1Ай бұрын
@@sphyre1196 What? If you can sharpen M390/20CV at 59-61 you certainly can sharpen it at 61-63. In fact it will be much easier to sharpen at the higher range. It still the same composition, it's not like it being a few Rockwell harder magically turns it into 70+ HRC Rex 121. I never understood this sharpening myth still being a thing, with modern abrasives have been a thing for decades. It usually comes from makers wanting to save some money on production costs, and convince some customers it's how it should be.
@sphyre1196Ай бұрын
@@Cid_1 Ok if you say so....still doesn't change the fact that I can't tell the difference and most other people can't either. Should these companies deliver on what they promise? Absolutely...will a 59 HRC be unusable trash? Probably not. Doesn't matter much to my as my WE has Hugin Damasteel and for HRC fanatics that's trash anyway.

We with a Guthrie. I’m buying it. And the first one was really interesting too. I don’t care what the haters say - WE has been, and still kills it. I hate the plunge on the Guthrie, but I’m still wanting to get that one. I’ve had some great interactions with his student that he mentored - Bradley Marais, who also has an incredible style, from S Africa.

I love the Archeozoic. The blade shape and open back spacer are fantastic. I checked out the other versions, my favorite is the Arctic Storm fat carbon (the most expensive of course)

We’re all over we charging like they’re reate they aren’t! The heat treats are wack the designs aren’t great either. It’s not 2018 the competition caught up and they’re 100$ less with better heat treats I’ll never buy another we. Neeves knees should be the name of this review give it a rest bro.

It just sounds like you're part of the WE hater train. Idk if you're just late to the party but WE's machining is absolutely up there with the best of them now. Sure people can still maybe make the claim that Reate is still top dog, maybe, but when you're supposedly the premiere knife OEM and you only put out 4-5 designs per calendar year then it leaves a lot to be desired. WE works with some of the biggest makers/designers in the industry, they use the highest quality materials that money can buy, and their machining has taken a huge step up in quality and overall finishing level (look at the Cybernetic, the GTC Solid, and the Attor) Honestly with the way you speak about them as a company I can guarantee you haven't owned a WE in some time or possibly ever. So with that said your opinion doesn't really hold any weight. Maybe you should get off your knees for Reate? Or let me guess, WE didn't send you a specific model that you hit them up wanting to check out to review for your channel, so now they "suck" lol
@cyphersuit1Ай бұрын
WE has surpassed Reate. That is a fact you get to hear when talking one on one to makers. Also their heat treat is spot on these days.

I’m pretty sure Jared has a couple designs in the works with WE, so what’s he gonna do, promote Zero Tolerance and Reate? That don’t make sense
@Southernknife_addictАй бұрын
Reate has so many qc issues I hesitate to even buy one anymore. At least we knife can terminate an edge where it dosent look like a 4 year old ground it Bestech is better than reate and id argue we is too reate can’t keep the volume they’re at without major qc improvements
