In the 2nd quest: After I finish level 3, I go to level 6 and get the ladder and leave. Then go and grab that heart container on the eastern part of Hyrule. It makes fighting level 4 much easier. You'll then have enough heart containers from finishing level 4 and the raft to get the magic sword. It's definitely not worth the trouble to fight level 5 with only the white sword. Level 4 is troubling enough with only the white sword. Great job!!

You two did a fantastic job presenting NOT ONLY the differences between the two quests, but also presented it in a thorough, completionist way that'll be extremely helpful if I ever attempt the 2nd quest again. I beat it on GBA, but I recall needing a text guide for the more cryptic segments. Especially for Ganon's tower. Also loved the observations of the map layouts. I never noticed Ganon's head was the shape for the second quest version of level 9.

I only died four times on my original footage, but my cap card started having issues with the final two dungeons of the second quest, and I wasn't pleased with the quality of the footage, so I played through it again to get better footage and ended up dying a total of nine times. I killed myself a lot just to get out of dungeons quicker rather than walk all of the way back out of them after getting what I needed.

Great stuff guys and I loved hearing your very different stories of how you discovered the second quest. Man this brought back so many memories. When I was a kid in the 80s I somehow slogged through the second quest after my friends told it was the same as the first one...come to find out none of them had even tried to get through it. It was so different and I had to find out what was at the end. My mom had assisted by drawing these amazing colorful grid maps for the final dungeon in the first quest complete with every enemy, hazard and item in each room. For the second quest it was all hands on deck in my house and we spent many nights mapping out the final dungeon for the second quest. It was so much work and trial and error to discover it all on our own. However after I saw the ending and found out they were making a sequel my friends took me a lot more seriously as a gamer. Then came pre-ordering Zelda II via the Nintendo Fun Club news only to be told that they "ran out of computer chips" and the game was delayed. It took me about 1.5 years to finally get my own copy...I still say that computer chip shortage was a load of B.S. :)

Thanks! I played Zelda for the first time with my dad, so I have memories of that. And the time I was playing and my mom got impatient with me and turned off the NES before I could save it. I started crying cuz I thought I had lost all of my progress. Didn't know that the last save would still be on the cart. Phew. Did you watch that Xmas video that I did on Zelda II a couple of years ago, where I tell the story of getting it for Xmas 1988? I think the chip shortage was BS too, cuz Nintendo still pulls that shit to this day.
@edr7775 жыл бұрын
@@NefariousWes Hey Wes those are pretty funny stories...my parents never played Nintendo games but for some reason my mom loved to helped out with Zelda...wish I still had those maps but they are long gone. I do remember that Zelda II special...you are really lucky to have received it back in 1988. It was 1990 or so before I finally found a copy. It was so frustrating because the Fun Club News did a big article about Zelda II complete with pictures and I also had The Official Nintendo Strategy Guide which showed the first 3 levels as I recall. So I had all this info about a game that I wanted to play so bad but it just wasn't available. My local video store would charge us up the ass to rent it and I hated them for it. They still pull this kind of crap today? That's insane.

Talk about giving us the wagon before the horse in Zelda's second quest. Level 4 gives us the book of magic, while level 8 gives us the magical rod. In my opinion, I think it would've made better sense to hide the magical rod in level 4 and the book in level 8. I don't know why Miyamoto San did it this way by giving us the book first in the second quest, but getting that item is optional, as it basically adds the ability to cast a magical fire spell to the magical rod...

I can't believe I never knew the dungeons spelled "ZELDA"! As a kid it drove me nuts trying to figure out what, if any, the significance of those first four letters were all about. To this day though, level five still looks more like a 2 to me so I'm sure that's what threw me off. Seeing a Zed would surely have tipped me off 😅! I also never finished the second quest until I was in my late twenties(on GBA). Proud to say however, I did manage to pull that shit off by making my own dungeon maps and smoking Ganon both times with zero lives used(by abusing the soft save/reset trick of course!) without naming the file 'Zelda'. That file is named 'L!NK' and is still chilling on my cartridge from 2008 as I speak 😎!

Also after giving Grumble Grumble the meat hit pause, up, save, and you will restart the game without losing the meat. Not needed for Q1 but in Q2 where there's much less free rupees it saves a lot of time killing foes for rupees. I still beat Q1 and Q2 at least once a year; along with Ocarina of Time and a Link to the Past. I haven't tried any of the newer games; just never felt the need to.

Interesttiinnnggg that they called in Legend of Zelda 1. It's almost as if they knew there would be a sequel! Well done, gang. This was a tremendous video to take on and honestly, I feel like it would've been better off as a single video. It was a bit jarring to pick up from where you left off and I had to go back and watch the end of the first just to see where you left it. Anyways, I know how long this took you to edit. Some of those shots are CRAZY to put together! Regarding the names of the enemies, when I was a kid I called the Wizrobes the Wizzerbees. And I called the like likes cheeseburgers. What did you use to capture footage? I noticed the lack of transparency of the bubbles (called them skulls back in the day) and the Wizrobes when they move.
@NefariousWes5 жыл бұрын
That's cuz I disable the resample to eliminate ghosting, which Vegas does by default. That's how I get my footage looking so clear, but it does come with some minor caveats. It sometimes screws with the transparency effects. Like the clip where I'm pushing the gravestones to release ghosts -- I re-enabled the resample to keep the transparency. And HG and I discussed making the video one or two parts, and felt that it was information overload to keep it all together. I almost felt that part one was too much info to take in at once. Also, I had thought it was gonna be much longer, cuz the script is 6,000+ words, and when I did my Immortal Vs video, that script was 4,000+ words, but was about 45 minutes altogether. Too long for one video. I really don't like going over 30 minutes. And Like Likes have always looked like pancakes to me. Thanks, dude!

About the "Zelda 1" thing: It blew my mind too when I realised this years later. I looked up and this is also written on the original japanese version. In fact, when you know that Zelda 2 was released less than a year after the first one it's no wonder they were already thinking to make a new one. That said, you won't see something like this anymore lol because it would make the Internet in fire. Imagine if in 2017 at the end of BotW it was written "end of BotW 1" lol.

the second quest is a troll fest and with sadness i say it is the best hard mode in zelda because it is the only one to actually have new dungeons and some level design differences. oot master quest and botw master mode are probably follow ups. oracles had the linked versions but they were more like extended versions of the playthroughs.
