Younger Xennial here May 1983. This channel has been a joy to watch. Brought back many memories. I sometimes feel like I relate to Gen X more since my older sisters exposed me to much more than the typical Xennial, and seeing as they were born in 1973, I witnessed them in their teenage years in the 1980s. The big hair, the aquanet, the malls, the parking lot parties. I feel like I missed out sometimes but I wouldn't change anything.

Muriel's Wedding is one of my favourite films. The Australians are great at doing these 'slice of life'fiilms, grim reality but with great humour. I am Scottish and I see the same kind of thing in UK films. I still say ' You' re terrible Muriel'😆. As for that ending, it cheers me up just to think about Muriel and Rhonda' s friendship and their excitement about a better life. Some other great films from the era were Priscilla Queen of the Desert, East is East, Evita and My Cousin Vinny. Oh and one I haven't seen for years, but I loved it at the time, Shallow Grave. It was directed by Danny Boyle and starred a young Ewan McGregor.

So I Love Father of The Bride, both the old Black & white film and the Steve Martin remake. However, Father of the Bride II is extra special to me and my family. My oldest brother had just told us he & his wife was expecting their first baby days before we rented this from the video store. My dad was laughing and said something about how that wouldn't happen in real life and my mom was getting more and more upset as dad laughed and enjoyed the film... At one point we had to pause the film so dad could check on mom to see why she was angry with him. Us younger kids weren't supposed to know but it was obvious, mom was pregnant and didn't think it was a joke. My baby brother and oldest nephew are 6 weeks a part and we can all laugh and enjoy the film years all these years later.

I first watched The Little Rascals on ABC Family. About a year later, my dad bought me a DVD set of the pre-MGM Our Gang shorts. My exposure to Our Gang, The Wizard of OZ, and TCM as a little kid helped spawn my lifelong love of older movies.

I will be 55 this year so I truly grew up with all of the things you talk about in real time. Gen X had the best of everything in entertainment and pop culture. Plus we had an appreciation for movies and classic shows/movies from our boomer parents. I'm glad I grew up when I did. We were exposed to the world in ways that taught us about life and the world around us. I often wonder what today's youth will truly have to look back on and cherish. I still enjoy everything I grew up with. Gen x was so fortunate!

There are lots of films that don't get the attention they deserve but I'm interesting in the ones that were seemingly huge and are seemingly forgotten. For example, Pacific Heights and to a lesser extent Sleeping With The Enemy. Two really good thrillers that always seemed to be on TV in the 90's. The former stars Matthew Modine and Melanie Griffith as a couple plagued by possibly the worst live-in tenant that's ever existed. The latter is one woman's attempt to break away from her abusive husband which doesn't sound like the plot of a thriller but it is. I'm glad you mentioned the swing craze of the early 90's. I think it probably started with Memphis Belle which, at least in Britain, proceeded Jive Bunny's SwIng The Mood, a medley of old songs featuring the Glenn Miller song In The Mood, being a number one single. I think Swing Kids helped that cross over to the US and the rest is history

My idea for a Legally Blonde movie is that Elle Woods runs for President. Her opponent in the election needs to be equally intelligent and driven but lacking in Elle's moral character. It should be Tracy Flick, and of course Reese Witherspoon would play both roles.

Father of the Bride is a remake (1950 Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, Elizabeth Taylor). Father of the Bride Part II is a remake (Father's Little Dividend 1951 - Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, Elizabeth Taylor) Cheaper by the Dozen is remake (and awful one at that. The original [1950 - Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy] is based on the real-life story of The Gilbreth Family. Frank Gilbreth, Sr., was a pioneer in the field of motion study. Lillian Gilbreth: one of the first female engineers to earn a Ph.D., is considered to be the first industrial/organizational psychologist). The Money Pit is a remake (The 1946 comedy novel 'Mr. Blanding's Builds his Dream House' written by Eric Hodgins was adapted as a film by the same name and released in 1948, starring Cary Grant and Myrna Loy). You've Got Mail is a remake (The Shop Around the Corner 1940 - James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan). The Parent Trap is a remake. Some Gen X'er you are.
