I really hope this channel isn't dead... I discovered the neighborhoods series a few months ago, and I think they're one of the most beautiful things on KZbin.
@MrCzechTexan4 жыл бұрын
This is such a greater capture and analysis of the people of an American community than I've seen in my lifetime. This entire series has been pure "slice of life" concentrate from the get-go. It's hard to compare this type of content because of how genuine, and human, and down-to-earth that it is compared to anything else out there. It really has been a humbling experience and a true blessing to have been able to stumble upon this treasure trove. A trove of love, compassion, and companionship. Long story short, this shit belongs in the Sminthsonian. Keep up the absolutely fantastic work.

True. But the first thought that came to my mind was, how would this turn out if it was a black guy doing that in a white neighborhood.
@grokguy1494 жыл бұрын
@@merccadoosis8847 I'd have my money on that neighborhood failing the shit outta the sugar test to say the least. Gotta say though, if someone who is not your neighbor comes around asking for some sugar I'd be a bit sketched out too. Don't care what brand of person.

I lived in Homewood from 1941 to 1956, when my family moved to the Lincoln Avenue area. I have very fond memories of Homewood, where I attended Holy Rosary Elementary School. As children, we walked the streets and played little league baseball at Homewood Field. Many trips to Westinghouse Park and Frick Park were ventures of discovery. Later, I worked summers at the A&P Bakery where my mother was employed. The Homewood Public Library on Hamilton Avenue was the place from which we embarked on a streetcar to make our school picnic at Kennywood Park. And, of course, it was from Homewood that I traveled via trolley to Central High School in Oakland. Until then, my world was limited to a place where the place we called Homewood, was truly the only meaning of "home" that I carried in my mind, in my heart, and in my spirit. I am happy to see that many of the children of the Hill District diaspora are developing that same sense of "home" that I remember well. Dean, you rekindled those memories and for that I am thankful!

Happened upon your videos and thoroughly enjoyed the series. You picked such wonderful people to interview and your filming was so beautiful. My husband lived in Pittsburgh for about 8 years as a child and always talks about how much he loved it. We are considering a move to your wonderful city and now have some ideas as to where we might fit in and become part of a community. The one good thing about the current state of financial affairs in our country is that it might slow down some of the greedy developers plans! Hope we see you in Pittsburgh!

Thank you so much for making this! My mother passed recently and she was born and raised in Homewood Brushton. She would always tell me stories of her life growing up there. Thank you for showing the humanity and sense of community that Homewood has and not referring to it as a "ghetto" as I've heard other people describe it that way. I grew up in VA, so watching your video of her neighborhood being told in such an authentic and compassionate way, really makes me feel closer to her. I'm really glad I came across your KZbin channel.
