While mowing this overgrown lawn for a guy who just moved in, the neighbors dog kept jumping the fence while on a rope and kept me from mowing the backyard.

Just because a dog is wagging its tail doesn't mean it won't bite. You were right and justified not to risk it. Too bad the owner couldn't get the neighbor to control the dog. That's ridiculous that it's on a long enough lead to jump into the next yard. I had a friend's dog, that had seen me at their house multiple times, randomly jump up and try to bite me in the face. Anyway, wishing you safe mowing this year!

A couple other people mentioned similar stories! Things like that are definitely why I didn’t want to risk it! And yes, I thought the same thing about the really long lead! Hope you have a great new year

You know when seeing that viscous Pitt bull on the news going off behind that gate after it has bitten someone or killed something barking and foaming at the mouth? It’s actually not because purebred Pitt bulls do not and will not bark, barking is a warning threat and it’s triggered by the fear response. They also rarely bite people because they were originally bred as a family protector and later turned into fighting dogs. I had two back in the early 90’s before they become popular and their temperament is the opposite to what people believe. Those dogs barking at that gate are American staffys, they look almost identical to a Pitt bull but their temperament is nothing like them. There’s no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner 😉

@SoulsJourney I wish so many more people realized that a wagging tail doesn’t mean a dog won’t bite. There is a lot more body language to read than just the tail. Tail alone it could be a stiff tail wagging which is very different from a goofy relaxed wagging.

That tan dog was definitely not friendly…. The tall white one that came out of nowhere was more than likely not a threat BUT with the tan one all riled up like that it was best to avoid all of them!

Just because a dog wags his tail does not mean they are friendly, so you did the right thing letting the neighbor know. I retired from law enforcement and I would reccommend a small can of pepper spray as dogs do not like this stuff and once you spray them, they won't come near you as they think you will spray them again.

Very smart not to risk the backyard. Just because they wag their tail doesn’t mean they won’t use their teeth!! Plus, with the other dogs that showed up forms a pack mentality which could have led to a bad situation for you. Thanks for the video!!! I always enjoy them.

If this had been me, I would have been on the phone to the police or animal control! The owner won’t change this situation until he has been contacted by a higher authority. It’s a crock when you can’t work or relax in your own yard because of a inconsiderate neighbor. I’m glad you are okay and I hope the homeowner doesn’t have continuing problems with the dogs’ owner. I was walking my dog, a Boston Terrier, had him on a leash. We got attacked by 2 mean dogs. Mine as small as he is (21pounds) hit the first dog and knocked him down, I tazed it, it screamed like a little girl. Got up and ran away. The 2nd was fighting my dog and he ran off. My dog was biting him in the throat. We both were okay. Both the dogs were about 35 pounds. I went to the police station, told an officer what happened. Filed a complaint, and the officer went and gave the owners a ticket for not having a leash.

Great Job Brian, Thanks for sharing ! I could sense your fear with the dogs, I used to do a window cleaning service and had my share of aggressive dogs ! But at the same time I learned a lot, The Black & white one was no threat to you, as for the one jumping the fence , He wanted a taste of your leg ! I remember on one occasion a dog aggressively came at me , grabbing the bottom of My Jeans, shaking me several times ! With the deepest voice I could muster I Pointed in the direction of where it came from and shouted GET IN YOUR BED ! tail between its legs bolted ! Never back up from a non aggressive Dog , it will view you as prey ! Do not give it eye contact, Unless it comes at You, ignore it, It will know your not a threat, keeping in mind You are in their Territory

I've been around dogs my whole life. 2 years ago I was at a clients house with their dog. He had been so loving and friendly. We were discussing the details of the kitchen remodel and all of a sudden the dog bit me. He didn't break the skin, but he held on and had to be pulled off of my leg. I had severe bruising, and it hurt. You just never know what might set an animal off. I have a Husky/Malamute and he is gentle as a lamb. Yet, if I have people over to do work or for consultations, I lock him away just in case. I think you are wise to protect yourself. It doesn't mean you don't like dogs, it means you respect what they can do. I love your channel and your kindness. I hope 2024 is a healthy, happy and prosperous year for you and your family. God bless you.

I agree with you. A long while back, I went to a home and a very friendly, loving Alaskan Malamute decided to jump towards my 4 year old. I pulled him towards me and she grabbed the dog. He got him just under his left eye. You never know with any dog. If the dog doesn't know you, and you add to that the noise of an edge cutter, or a moving mower, trouble will follow. Stay safe. I'm sure the property owner is grateful you did all that work for him. It's a huge difference!

A wagging tail does not mean a friendly dog !! Dogs wag their tails for many reasons , when they're happy, when they're nervous, a dog wagging his tail up high is a sign of aggression. When I walked my dog in the park, I told everybody he bites. He never bit anybody, but people send their kids over to play with my dog, he was 9 lbs and I don't know how he's going to act. Kids would come running at him yelling with their high-pitched voice and he would hide behind my legs, scared of the high-pitched screams. Better I say that he bites than have a lawsuit on my hands. He's an animal, I can't read his mind and I'm not taking any chances that out of fear he could bite a child. I doubt if that would happen, but one never knows and I'm not taking that chance. You should never have been put in that position in the first place, seems like there were dogs everywhere, some off lead. Tethered dogs aren't happy dogs and that can cause them to act out aggressively as well.

That dog doesn't look friendly. We had a Chow that bit a boy once. His injuries were severe, and part of his scalp had to be reattached. I thought the dog was nice and mellow, but he wasn't. We got sued by the boy's parents. I have a Shih Tzu now and she's never off her leash outside the house. I'm a little paranoid after that incident. I don't like for people to try to pet her either. At least the front got done and looks great. You'd think the neighbor would try to control his dog. The new homeowner is not going to want that dog in his back yard.

Hey Brian, I'll stick my nose into the scrum of what everyone is talking about, I used to work as a trash man, I pulled a roll cart all during the day, most people would be at work and they would either have their dog(s) in the house, on a chain, or in a fenced-in yard, so the dog(s) could run. I normally do not have problems with dogs, even the "aggressive" dogs behind tall fencing. Most dogs are relatively good at keeping their "hoomans" safe and most dogs know who is supposed to be on the property, dogs, in general, know their role and are pretty easy to be around, they can Sense fear and anger a whole lot better than hoomans can which is why they can sometimes seem like they're going to attack, I had one dog in particular, a golden retriever, who loved attacking the fence when I, or the other guys, would have to walk beside pulling the roll carts, certain noises can agitate a dog's senses and get the dog aggressive even though the dog thinks it's protecting it's property, The dog I had the issue with was not chained in it's yard, and the fence was just three feet tall and the dog would always charge the fence and act like it was going to come over, then there was the day I was on the route and I was going beside the fence, and the dog jumped and tore the shirt I was wearing and scraped my upper arm with it's teeth, I called the office and they had a police officer catch the home owner and the owner gave documentation that their dog was vaccinated, as I said, I love dogs, the home owner was told to keep the dog in the house on trash days or to have the dog on a chain on trash days or to have a tall fence at least six feet in height erected, the home owner elected to keep the dog in the house afterwards. The main reason dogs "attack" is, they think they are protecting their hoomans, and in your case, the next door neighbor should have had either a shorter chain or a lot taller fence because there's no reason for their dog(s) to be on the neighbors property, whereas in my case I had to go along side the fence or backtrack almost a hundred feet to get around the shed and brambles bush where the trash cans were at

Definitely a good if somewhat scary story! I’m pretty good and comfortable with dogs, but one chained up that can jump over the neighbors fence isn’t something I would really want to hassle with!! Definitely always good to use. Caution! Thanks for sharing, glad you weren’t hurt.

My dad and my uncle got into an argument over my uncle’s dog. Duke was a gs mix and always tied up. As kids tend to do, we got a little too close to Duke, who attacked us but fortunately didn’t get us. My dad told my uncle he needed to get rid of that dog before it seriously hurt one of us kids. My uncle said you can always make another kid, but a good guard dog was hard to find.

Great job for 2023 and good luck in 2024. Look forward to 2024 videos! It’s too bad the owner couldn’t persuade the neighbor to bring their dog inside, even if the neighbor put the dog in his/her garage. Job well done anyway Brian! Cheers P.S. I’m sure leaving with the back left to finish was a bummer b/c you like it done right.

That's just plain irresponsible. The dog could hang itself, break its neck in an attempt jump, bite someone, a thousand things...ALL the owners' fault and not the dog. SHAME on that owner.

Was your client a "new owner" or a "new tenant"? Either way, perhaps we can guess why the previous occupant left...problems with the neighbor's dogs...this new occupant may have more than he bargained for (I've had some bad dog neighbors...not fun!)

A dog is only safe with a muzzle on. Otherwise they can cause damage and harm. Call Animal Control and let them deal with the neighbor and his irresponsible actions. Oh well, that was yesterdays ago. HAPPY NEW YEAR. I hope you and yours have a wonderful one.

I feel sorry for that new homeowner, having to learn about crappy neighbors. Not sure whose fence it is jumping, but it is their responsibility to fence their entire yard high enough (and secure beneath) to contain all their animals. The good news is, you were not attacked and did not sue them for damages, involving the new mortgage holder's insurance, who would sue the neighbor. HOW FORTUNATE that by enlisting your kind service, you documented all the evidence on film for the owner to share and share and share. You are like a secret agent man! God Bless!

Yes, it was a hay field 😂 You can’t risk it when your livelihood is at stack; because the dog could react negatively because of the machines. It’s better safe than sorry and it doesn’t pay to assume either. I hope you’re having a great New year. ☺️👏🏼💪👷😍🏠

Great video! You did a nice job on the yard. And yes, I get it also about dogs, however I also get it about the potential for something to go wrong especially when there's more than one. I love dogs. What I dislike is irresponsible dog owners. I'm sure that the neighbor is well aware his dog jumps the fence. Unfortunately, the neighbor is putting his dog in danger if the dog's collar or chain gets tired up on the fence. Anyway, you made a good business decision to avoid the backyard. I appreciate your hard work and willingness the help folks in your community. Best wishes & Happy New Year!

Irresponsible dog owners! ….. all it would have taken was one dog to become aggressive and that could have resulted in an attack! You used good judgement. Personally, I would have left as soon as I saw the dog jump the fence!!!!

Brian man I gotta tell ya you just made my day!!!! I’m on the treadmill watching this video and when that black and white dog showed while you were weed eating along the side of the garage in the backyard and you finally saw him and stepped behind the garage I just about fell off the treadmill from laughing so hard!!!! As if that wasn’t funny enough the slow-mo of the next door neighbors dog hopping the fence I just lost it tears were streaming down my face!!! Dude I am so sorry to be laughing but I found it to be hilarious. Then you wrote well I guess I’m not mowing the backyard and again I double over in laughter!!! I had to hold on to the handrails on the treadmill so I wouldn’t fly off. I understand that you don’t want to get mauled. And again I’m sorry I’m laughing but damn that was a good video!!! Were you ever attacked by a dog??

Not funny! Any dog can get territorial. My Rat Terrier is not able to be socialized. Not the top pick. Anyway, she attacks anyone whether she knows them or not when they come by. Living with her is ok, still a bit challenging. She managed to get animal control on my case! LOL! I consider her a vicious dog and handle her that way.

alot of people think just cause a dog is wagging it's tail that it's friendly...SO wrong. Don't blame you for not doing the back yard. If I was the home owner I'd be calling animal control about that tied up dog.

Looks to me that the neighbors dogs are reactive. I have one and she’s reactive to people and other animals so we’re getting her training and hopefully she’ll be better. Right now we don’t trust her around people or my little guy. ( my boy dog ) we keep a very close eye 👁️ and make sure she doesn’t go after him. But this looks like these dogs are reactive and I would definitely recommend keeping yourself safe and away from them so you don’t get hurt. Some dogs are reactive to people and animals because they fear or have been traumatized and that’s what makes them so reactive. Don’t get me wrong but our little girl is very sweet and we think that she’s just playing with him but he doesn’t like rough housing. He doesn’t like that kind of play. But for now they’re ok but our little girl need special attention and training. Which she is 😊.

Talk about a dog day afternoon! That was ridiculous,it is very frustrating when you have dog owners who clearly don't give a dam.You were right to skip the back yard,it is not worth the risk.If i was that home owner i would have contacted animal control on the neighbors and informed them about the situation. Then maybe they would start being more responsible.

I hate it when people say things like, "oh he's friendly, he won't bite." Of course he's typically not going to bite the hand that's feeding him/her. But anything with teeth can bite, including humans. Let me get attacked and not have a weapon! Teeth it is then!

Some dog's ears hurt around weed trimmers. My dog was ok with the lawn mower but went after the trimmer and my vacuum sweeper every time. So it's got to be the high pitch noise from the motors. My neighbor's dog came at me with tail wagging and growling as I got in my car. I didn't do anything but walk from the house to the car. The dog came from nowhere and he said I provoked the dog. So yes you made the right choice.

You mow smarter than most other KZbinrs. They mow a while, blow a while, edge a while, back to mowing, the edge some more. . . It’s got to take an age to switch tools so often and to blow off the walks before you’re finished.

I have been doing yard work and landscaping for 50 years and I can tell you that almost every single time I have been bitten by a dog was right after I was told it was frendly. If I had been in your shoes on this job I would have just gotten right back in my truck as soon as I saw that the neighbor's dog was so aggressive that it would jump the fence. If that dog was so out of control that it would do that, there was a very good chance it could break the rope or chain it was on and attack you. I say this because the last time I got bit by a customer's dog was at a house where as I was walking up to the front door five dogs were lunging at the picture window barking and growling. I agreed to do the yard only if the people living there promised to keep the dogs inside. Sure enough while I was working and didn't see one of the people living there go out of the house the dogs got out one of them bit me on the back of my lower leg.

The dog was barking incessantly, can't be trusted. The owners need to shorten his chain so the neighbor and his guests can feel safe. Dogs can bite anytime, so you did what you had to do, and I don't blame you one bit. Front looks nice though. 🙂

I live in the country so addressing dog issues are different. We have the right to defend ourselves. We had a neighbor who had dogs and they were very mean. The UPS and USPS people would not even get out of the vehicle to deliver packages and these dogs tried several times to bite us on our own yard. They eventually moved to town and then the police had to deal with the complaints. The fines to the owners exceeded $3000 and the owners had to put the dogs down just do they didn't have to pay any more fines. They tried biting the neighbors in town and they learned that we put up with a lot from those dogs. Good thing for you not to mess with those dogs, they get the idea of a pack and you pay the price especially if they have a dog that is a ring leader. If it has to be chained, there is a reason. Since you are not the property owner, you did the right thing to just leave.

I'm a dog lover but no way I'm gonna take a chance on that one. Neighbor is being quite irresponsible for allowing those dogs to run and be on too long a tether to get over the fence, I hope the new owner sets him straight about not having the dogs into his yard.

As far as the dogs go, I have to agree that they didn't seem to be aggressive. The problem is that when several dogs get together they can get aggressive. The whole problem is irresponsible dog owners. No way that dog should be on a tether long enough to let him jump the fence. That is a danger to the dog who could hang himself if he gets caught on something. Some people do not need to have dogs! For what you were able to do looks really nice. The whole yard would have looked as good if the neighbors were responsible!
