This is what makes Neil Breen an artist in the purest sense - he is totally sincere, it couldn't work otherwise. It's like Tommy Wiseau, The Room works because Tommy is totally sincere in his performance and vision. Neil Breen gets so much hate online for how bad his movies are and yet he is totally undeterred from making them year after year, Why? Because he loves what he does, he loves making movies, he doesn't make them to get rich or to follow a trend, the dude simply loves what he does and it shows - that's why its so unironically funny, if you thought for one second he was doing it on purpose it would lose its charm. Dude's work is ridiculous and everyone tells him so, but it doesn't for one second stop him pursuing his passion - there's a lesson in that for artists...just do it cos you want to, let other people decide if it's good or bad. Oscar Wilde said "The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless." and that is Neel Breen to a T.
@nicholasm78227 ай бұрын
But sincerity is not even a necessary condition for an artist, and certainly not a sufficient one.

Only it doesn't remain art, but a vanity project. Because it's always just him. Always one and only about him.
@Auswurkung7 ай бұрын
I will respectfully disagree with you on that point. Millions of people all around the world, for many years I might add, watch, love and enjoy Neel Breens stuff, even if it's not for Neel's original intended purpose, which is to make a "serious" film. One might as well call any artists art a vanity project by that logic, because all artists create for themselves and their own enjoyment first, and are often compelled to - it's just in their nature. There is no vanity in what Neel does because he is sincerely trying to make various points in his movies, whether it's about politics or social comments etc. Like Oscar Wilde said "The only excuse for making a useless thing is that one admires it intensely. All art is quite useless." and that is Neel Breen to a T.@@currentofthesnake8486
@currentofthesnake84867 ай бұрын
@@Auswurkung The answer to this is that Albrecht Dürer only has one self-portrait. Caravaggio always only made a secret cameo in his pictures. Da Vinci is actually just a drawing. But now when it comes to the big filmmakers, you never really get to see them in their films. Because in the end, the work remains and is more important. That's the difference between art and a vanity project. Art is above all, not ego. Or the ego can be the starting point to experience the world, it is a condition. But in the end you have to take the step into the universal and not constantly put your face in the picture. In the scene here, for example, you could also say something about our postmodernism because of the green screen, but that is lost to the detriment of unintentional comedy.

I was born a twin. My brother is no longer with us, having died in 2009. But we were inseparable as kids. But we grew apart as we got older and found different interests. And yet we never stopped being twins. If you are a twin you have a bond to your sibling, which you can't explain to anyone who isn't a twin. Twisted Pair and this are terrible terrible films, but they do actually get the twin experience spot on. I can't think of any other films that have managed that.
