How do you get someone to say “I never thought about it that way”? How do you make it look like you didn’t need to prepare at all? Neil deGrasse Tyson opens up like he’s never done before to share his communication tools and techniques.
Neil deGrasse Tyson was just nine years old when he became fascinated by the mysteries of the cosmos. Today he’s known worldwide for inspiring others to consider the world-and the universe-around us. The astrophysicist, director at the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City, and science influencer has been a powerful advocate for science literacy with a popular television series and the NYT-bestselling book Astrophysics for People in a Hurry. He’s been awarded the U.S. National Academy of Sciences Public Welfare Medal for his “extraordinary role in exciting the public about the wonders of science.” Now he’s teaching you how he connects with audiences around the world.
Learn more about Neil’s MasterClass:mstr.cl/36f8TN7
In his MasterClass, Neil deGrasse Tyson teaches you how to discover and communicate objective truths in clear, exciting, and engaging ways. Learn to think, measure, and weigh information like a scientist; detect flaws in your own reasoning and navigate cognitive bias, and gauge the credibility of information and ideas. He also teaches you his personal approach to communicating, whether you’re presenting to an audience, delivering a sound bite, or simply conversing with friends and family around the dinner table.
In this online class, you’ll learn about:
• Scientific literacy
• Cognitive bias
• Personal and political truths
• The scientific method
• Making predictions
• Scientific measurement

@@UncleRimo Wrong. Neil mouths the correct platitudes. Kind of like adulterous Republicans preaching family values. But does he practice critical thinking skills. Does he challenge his assumptions to see if they are supported by evidence? No. Time and time again he has allowed his confirmation bias to mislead him. He has made numerous demonstrably false claims. The same goes for his fans. They tend to swallow Neil's misinformation no questions asked.

@Dander Spat 1) Both sides of the political spectrum treat their beliefs in a religious way. 2) climate change isn't a sham. Those who say so are conspiracy theorists. All evidence implies it's real. Science is based on mathematics and the variables involved in predicting the effects of climate change is difficult to predict. Also the 2nd amendment needs to talked about more with calmer heads and not emotional folks like Michael Moore and Ben Shapiro at the forefront

Neil is great. Charismatic enthusiastic and a captivating Orator. The problem is he and many others alike fall short when it comes to recognizing their own biases. Thats the trouble with this class. It Will likely teach you how not to be biased towards anything except the approved and widely accepted biases of academia. The same biases that got Rupert Sheldrake banned from TED for challenging. The same biases that prevented the 2014 paper on a 50 year study (ganzfield) proving the existence of telepathy from being acknowledged or spoken about. The same biases that cause people to continue to perpetuate the myth the presupposes matter as fundamental to reality even when we have empirically demonstrated in every which way repeatedly over and over again for the last 100 years that there really is no such thing as matter in the first place. The bias that forced the phrase 'Shut up and calculate' in quantum physics. The bias that because of its stubborn persistance has brought about the pervasive and immovable 'hard problem of consciousness'. Look. Tyson is a cool guy. But to think he can teach much about how not to be biased is a limited belief at best. I think there is some value there but don't get too carried away because he like the vast majority of science spokespeople with a raised profile are subject to the biases and belief systems that helped them reach the level of popularity they enjoy today. If a particular bias results in elevated social status and/or a deeper sense of belonging with a particular group identity/community you better believe it is almost impossible for most people to let go of. Neil Degrasse Tyson is no different to most people in this regard.

Droplets of life , Don't Forget: The world is a reflection of our internal state; if we dwell on turmoil, anger and confusion then that’s how the world will be perceived to the individual. You have to work on yourself first before you can effectively take any social or political action. A quiet mind and and an open heart are important attributes to project into the world. I Wish you enough, Myrian Santana.

I want to ask a question to you guys, and I expect a sincere answer. I love Physics and topics related to astronomical physics. I love the idea of working in spacex or nasa, for example. However, I struggle with maths due to the reason that its been a really long time since I've studied it because currently I'm a med student and I haven't seen math or anything related in a couple of years. I'm considering of changing the course of the career to something I'd really like. And I'm considering Physics and Economics as double major, since I've the gpa required and the credits approved. But still, I need to make a wise decision, because this isn't the first time I've changed of careers, so this one change will be final. Thats why I'm giving this a lot of thought and I'm taking this semester off so I don't take any reckless decision. What do you guys think?

Ask your subconscious mind through lucid dreams about your career path. Otherwise I'll say choose physics, because you have clear image of working in SpaceX and NASA and genuine interest in astrophysics. Watch some Neil video clips about learning math, it will change your perspective of what math is.

Do that, what you will enjoy doing, or else you just have a job that gets you paid but not the experience of day to day happiness
@EMPE.
@EMPE. 4 жыл бұрын
You can overcome any kind of obstacle if you put in the effort, that's just a fact. So it all boils down to whether or not you want it that badly. There's a key question here: 1) Do you want to work in SpaceX/NASA/somethingsimilar or do you just love the idea of working there? You really need to dig deep to find that answer, because many people are madly in love with ideas and ideals but the day-to-day of it all isn't all that interesting. In other words, they pursue an idea or career without realizing they were only approaching the matter superficially. Finally, and this is a big one, there is no "final change" in life. Ever. Not if you approach things right. What you end up as and what your diploma says is not who your are, nor is it the end all be all. You can carve out a path for yourself regardless of the context and your education. So even if you don't make this change (or do and regret it), it's never final. You have the final say in the matter, and you never really know how life will unfold. Good luck, B1GGYPAPA00. Life awaits!

You're talking about abiogenesis. There are several hypotheses, but we don't know for sure how life on earth began. What we do know, far far beyond a reasonable doubt, is that the first very simple life on earth evolved and diverged into all the life we see today. You're trying to paint the idea of life coming from non-living material as absurd, but actually we now know about viroids: single strands of rNA -- yes, single molecules -- that are capable of replicating themselves simply by virtue of their electromagnetic properties.

I would not call this Master Class I would call it Remedial Education. Every class I watched was so basic I thought "You have got to be kidding me". The content might be useful for someone who knows absolutely nothing about a subject. However, unless you've come to a subject by way of a turnip truck the information was nothing new and you cab get the same content or even better from a simple Google/KZbin search. Most of the classes have a huge amount of fluffy fan service for celebrities who are already famous and successful. The last thing that really frosts my cookies is that the mobil app is rubbish. I tried to download several lessons onto my phone so I could watch them on the subway and every time they failed to download or there was an error while watching a lesson. I would never ever recommend someone pay for this service. Every time I tried a class I was severely disappointed.

I learned I really don’t mind being isolated, as long as I am able to challenge myself to get out of my own head w out bouncing off of ideas from others. If it weren’t for the internet, I don’t think I could’ve done it, though. Apart from that, I have integrated for the passed 6 months, & feel so much more purpose in my life. I enjoy REALLYYY small things like coming home to clean laundry, changing a light bulb, & a new pair of socks compared to before feeling miserable being around the wrong people. Quarantine basically forced me to cut those people loose. I feel so much better now. Refreshed. Like a new person. & I REALLY REALLY WISH & HOPE for the same for you!.
