This was a surprise, especially as it isn't recognised as a Neil Diamond song, and will no doubt be more associated with Susan Boyle other than a major song in the film version of Victor Hugo's novel Les Miserables, however, once again you have hit the mark, the song fits perfectly with the stunning images from the film. The song was sung by Anne Hathaway's character Fantine, a desperate plea for a better existence beyond living as part of the Parisian underclass. The uniqueness of Neil Diamond's interpretation is his ending offers hope, where he sings, "life can't kill the dream I dreamed" whereas the original lyric, as quoted directly below the video is a surrender to the life she was living. Les Miserables is a dark narrative of the squalid existence of many in Paris in the 1800's, which led to the uprising, and the French revolution, the story is a veritable history lesson. Whilst watching one can actually feel the desperation via the stark images, and the sense of loss and defeat, but there is hope via the rebellion, which gives hope for the future. The inclusion of the "Song of the Whales Fanfare" at the beginning sets the tone wonderfully, it builds anticipation, and expectation, an inspired touch, I have always liked that piece of music. The video is another wonderful inclusion to your library of great video's, a great upload.

The Film Les Miserables is a powerful story of poverty and decline, as well as control in Paris in the 1800's, it is a stark tale of the deprivation of the underclasses of that era, which brought about the French revolution. Doug is a master of creation, his video's are above the norm of what is usually found on KZbin, and fit entirely with the story he is telling via the music he uses. I had seen this song performed a couple of times in New York but when I saw Anne Hathaway perform it on screen it was like I had never heard it before. I fully understand why she nailed the Oscar as Best Supporting Actress. It's a powerful song and you could see it in Anne's performance.

I forgot to mention after thinking about it that there's more to ND than singing "Sweet Caroline" in sports stadia around the world. This song of Neil Diamond sounds quite nice 😊🎶 Les Misérables is a 2012 musical drama, based on the classic novel, Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo and the Classic Broadway stage show of the same name, Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean, a prisoner who breaks parole, and the police inspector, Javert, who tries to hunt him down for breaking parole.
