Yes sir I agree, how anybody can say, any drummer is greater than (THE GOAT PROFESSOR) YOU MUST GET YOUR EARS CHECKED................

Neil effn' Peart is how Geddy referred to him in his biography. On their last tour, Neil was a little put out that Alex and Geddy didn't seem to appreciate the solo he'd composed for that tour. Geddy told him he had watched every one of them from the wings. He was contrite but made a comment along the lines of "he's Neil f**king Peart" as his explanation for not verbally complimenting Neil's work. He felt it went without saying. BTW, check out Geddy's bio, "My Effin' Life" for the best history of Rush yet written.

You've still not got around to doing the By-Tor /In the End /In the Mood /2112 Grand Finale medley from the 1981 live Exit Stage Left video. You'll love it, when you finally do so. The Stickhits remaster is the best version, i think.

This drum solo is incredible, there are references to Buddy Rich and Max Roach! You may have recognized some similar rhythms in Moby Dick ( also walses)... Buddy Rich is the favorite drummer of all your favorite drummers... That was good, I missed seeing you react to Rush!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!🔥

Neil’s aim every tour was to add to and improve on the last solo. Not one of that band ever declined in standard through the life of the band. If the aim of any artist is to end at an absolute peak, Rush done it! Little did anyone know, how final that last tour was to be!

The reason why Neil's hands and sticks sometimes looked a bit fuzzy is because Neil was playing faster than the camera, in terms of the fps of its shutter, could capture. And I agree: that was a fantastic performance, one that I prefer over the popular Frankfurt show.

LONG LIVE IN MEMORY OUR PROFESSOR OF THE DRUM KIT !!!🙏💖

The back story on this instrumental - they had finished recording the music for this album (Snakes & Arrows) and Geddy was finishing up the vocals; Alex was out of the studio and Neil was there for the packing and shipping of his kit. One of the crew took a long phone call so Geddy started playing around with a new Jaco Pastorius fretless bass, which was recorded by the producer (I think), who suggested they include this as a short instrumental. Neil created the drum part on a small kit that was always in the studio. Alex wrote the guitar part and Malignant Narcissism was born.

Snakes and Arrows is the album name and I was going to suggest this particular video at some point for the drum solo and more particularly because Geddy's bass playing is front and center in this one. In my opinion more than any other member of this band, Geddy's bass playing is often overlooked relative to the other instruments. There is a great documentary of the band out there focusing on the brainstorming, writing, composing and recording for this album which you should check out at some point Rory. Thanks for the great Rush reaction as always!

This Rush song contains a fretless bass line by Geddy Lee, He plays a Japan fretless Fender Jazz Bass signature model of Jaco Pastorius !!!! Crazy sound!!!!!

It was a treat to see that solo live. During the 80’s, I didn’t appreciate his live solos enough. I just wish I had managed to make it to their last two concert tours to take in the final solos live too (damned work took precedence on both occasions and so I wound up giving the tickets to my brother and to a friend).

I’m sorry, but no. Neil is my favorite drummer of all time, so that might make me biased, but the solo is needed to complete the experience.
