Honestly Neil is one of the greatest drummers of all time. His death sent shock waves through the music world. No one knew he was sick. It sucks he's gone and it's awful he died of cancer. But if you can find a video of his life story. I think it's easier to find peace in his Passing. The guy lost a wife and a daughter within 2 years of each other. As hard as that was for him he still found peace in music and his crazy adventures in his trips around the globe on his BMW Bike. The man is a legend and legends never Die. Neil and Rush will be missed. One of the greatest trios of all time.

The Drum Master --Drumming has the power to unite people, no matter how varied their language or cultural background might be. On a recent trek through Africa, Neil Peart had a singular experience that proved just that. "I was in Gambia, walking through a small village, and I heard the sound of a drum. So of course I was curious! I looked into a compound and I could hear the drumming coming from a curtained room. I walked up to a woman doing laundry in front of the room. She could see my interest in the sound, so she waved me to go in. Inside I found a young, white missionary from a nearby Catholic school. Sitting across from him was the commanding presence of the local drum master. He was attempting to show the missionary how to play any kind of beat. The missionary was trying as hard as he could, but he wasn't having a lot of success." After a time the drum master, frustrated by the missionary's lack of ability, noticed the other man who had come into the room. The master had no idea who this person was, but he thought to himself, "Why not see if he can play?" According to Peart, what happened next was fascinating. "The drum master gestured to me to try and play a rhythm. So we began playing together, and he started smiling because he could tell I had a rhythm - maybe not his rhythm, but a rhythm of some kind. We were playing and playing, building the intensity, and little kids started coming in, laughing at the white man playing drums. Then a few women came into the room, and everybody began dancing to our beat! The master and I even started trading fours. It wasn't a spoken thing, but he could tell that I would lay out and listen to what he was doing for a certain amount of time, and then he would do the same. It was just a magical moment." When they finished, a confused and startled missionary ran up to Peart and asked, "How can you do that?" Chuckling to himself, Neil politely responded, "I'm in the business." In my opinion he was the best rock drummer ever. Yes John Bonham was amazing and ridiculously awesome using only a single bass drum and not so many pieces but I put Peart just a bit higher just because the sounds and the way he played and made every piece count. It’s very tough to choose honestly but I still say Peart

I read a Neil story years ago that I've never forgotten. Neil would ride his bike between gigs. So Neil is making his way across Africa, stopping in the villages along th he way to immerse himself in the culture. He stops in one village, where a village elder and a tourist are playing native drums. Neil said the tourist was clueless and the elder was over dealing with him. Neil politely asked if he could sit in. He was genuine in his request because he truly wanted to learn from the elder. Within just a few seconds of jamming with Neil, the elder smiled, closed his eyes and they played for hours. Neil said that they barely spoke at all, but it was one of the most important conversations of his life...the conversion of music and joy! RIP Professor.

Neil had a ton of tragedy, losing his wife was brutal, then he met his daughter to see her off to college, a couple hours later he recieved the call she had been killed in an accident. What makes this solo so fascinating are the different types of rhythm, this solo takes us on. it really tells a story. there's African, world, big-band, free-form, rock and groove music. every sound you hear is played live. No triggers. there have been better technical drummers than Neil as he happily admitted, but few as good at drum-composition. Aside from losing him to such s devastating disease, I get most upset that he never had the opportunity to see either of his daughters grow in to the women they would have or will become. I had seen Rush 49 times from 1982 when I was 12 all the way through the final tour at 45. that's a lot of life lived and it was ALWAYS a privilege to see the boys and what they were up to.

What I always thought was the most impressive thing about Neil is that he STUDIED the drums and drummers. I have watched several interviews about him and he talks about going to spend time with other drummers to learn things from them...not just current drummers but from master drummers from the 60's...always to learn or refocus himself on what he was doing and where he was going with his musical career. He was the professor and I hope he is not the last. But for my lifetime, he will always be the best.

How a drummer's brain works fascinates me. How many people can have their hands/arms/legs and feet doing different things at the same time..... in a rhythmic order? When they play, they look insane....but heck, they even throw in a twirl of their sticks and find a beat with their head so I'd guess that they must have a very orderly brain to do all of that at the same time. RIP, Mr. Peart.... thank you for sharing your talent and music with us. Take care, Bre....I enjoyed it.... be well. Peace.

Speaking as someone who's played the drums for the better part of 40 years, it doesn't come easy. It takes countless hours of practice to achieve even an incremental improvement in your playing. One master drummer, named Dave Weckl (you should REALLY check him out. He is MIND BLOWING) said he practiced on average 9 hours a day, every day. His playing shows it. You can watch a video of his from 20 years ago and watch one from today and see that he is still improving.

As a drummer myself I can tell you being able to play like Neil is truly a God given talent. I had the ability to have all four limbs playing independent from each other. But Neil MASTERED it. Things that I had to give total concentration to, Neil could do as easy as sleeping. Do to the many years of drumming, Arthritis made it to painful to continue for me. He was an incredible talent. His SOLO's were not just about how hard and fast you can hit a drum - He constructed an entire thematic feel to his SOLO's - Often called "The Rhythm Method" (after another use of the term). Often inspired by the rhythm patterns and sounds of other cultures - He definitely raised the bar for many to follow.

I love your reaction and talking about the soul of Neil. I was honored to be at their last show ever in 2015 and it was emotional for a lot of us. Thank you.

Dammit! Your emotions brought my emotions and tears came to my eyes. If you see some of his interviews oh, you are absolutely right he had a beautiful soul. When he lost his first wife and daughter so closely together, he went down a personal Journey for 5 years

Some things come down to opinion. And then, in some rare cases there's this "one guy". I grew up listening to Rush. Very sad that it's over.

He has a lesser known solo from the ‘07 Snakes and Arrows tour where the electronic drum really shines. Very underrated. It’s called De Slagwerker. If you’re interested in getting more of Rush’s story and journey as a band I highly recommend Beyond the Lighted Stage on Netflix.

Rhythm is in our souls it's a heartbeat of our mothers before we even born it's beautiful it's something that everybody taps their foot to ,or snaps her fingers to or nods their head to when they hear it,, nobody can deny it's awesome that's why I play drums it's something so spiritual something so ingrained and everybody digs it.

You should check out The Garden from the Clockwork Angels tour. It’s the last track on their last studio album and is the perfect swan song to their magnificent career. Warning, if you got a little emotional from watching this, rightly so, then you had better have a box of tissues ready for The Garden. Such a powerful and beautiful ending.
