In the liner notes on the CD of Sedaka’s Greatest Hits, Sedaka acknowledges Elton John contribution as being the reason why this song was such a big hit, saying that Elton John was already hugely popular at the time and that his doing backing vocals drew a lot of attention to this particular song and Sedaka’s album. Sedaka’s wording of it in the liner notes was very gracious and complimentary towards Elton John, which I thought was pretty classy.

I remember this being played (and played, and played) on the radio in the mid 70s. @@dayabananaas They sre Not saying The song Originated There. They are Saying Thats where They Heard it. History is important but they Are following the Music and however They Get here is cool as long as They Get Here.

It's Johnny and Donna. Johnny had inherited a record album from his mother. The greatest hits of 1975. He lost the album a few years back. Wonder if anyone else remembered the sleeve. Purple and Gold and it had other songs that were hits - like the Hustle.
