Thank you for the information and precise explanation to acute urinary retention. My grandson was only 2 years and 10 months and was never diagnosed with this problem that cause him to have UIT and it went undiagnosed and he died within days of a high fever. This month marked seven years since we lost him and I have placed an article on our home town newspaper to spread the word to other parents it is vital to learn this and save a life. God Bless

Thanks so much Doctor! I had been ignoring my BPH symptoms for years, and they were never that noticeable except for my frequent UTI's. My doctor always checked and said my prostate was only "medium enlarged." But following brief anesthesia at age 70 for some elbow lipomas, I experienced nothing usual but flooding the bed at night. I was still peeing frequently daytime, but over 3 weeks was apparently overfilling my bladder up to 1400ml and needed emergency Foley catheter. I finally had TURP done as I had the very enlarged media lobe, and I seem to be recovering and healing nicely now, only 4 weeks later. I know my bladder sustained some damage while I couldn't even feel it filling, except for abdominal bulging which had finally led to the discovery. Should I be mad at doctors for damaging my bladder by giving me general anesthetic, or am I to blame for not dealing with my BPH issues for too long?

I'm surprised you never felt anything with your bladder so full. I've had retention twice and was in agony.
@ronrobbins273710 ай бұрын
Good question! Seems my bladder was stretched and weakened following a minor surgery and even though they drained 1400 ML at one point, there was no sensation of fullness. I was peeing normal amounts during the day and later found out it was "overflow" because I already had the prostate middle lobe enlarged and blocking the bladder-neck. Had the TURP surgery 2 months ago, now dealing with some leakage but no more self-catheter 4/day for 6 months which was Hell on Earth. =@@rfmlets6713

I've been having to use intermittent catheters at least three times a day for a couple of months now, as I simply cannot empty my bladder unaided now. You get used to it, and it takes a bit longer and can't really be interrupted once the draining starts, but at least it feels so much better afterwards when the bladder is finally empty!

Who experienced blockage because of the prostata, who was on prostata medication years long before this acute blockage (finasterid, dutasterid, aglandin)? And what happened after this blockage? Underwent you a TURP? And are your kidney parameters going back to normal (BUN and creatinin)? I experienced a blockage and I was underwent to TURP before 3 months (May 2022). My BUN and creatinin-parameters worsened because of the blockage. Is somebody who experienced the same? Returned at you the BUN and creatinin value to normal? Or not more? Thank you for answering me. best greetings from Vienna.

I have Lyme and Sjogren’s, among others. This is a symptom of both. I’ve also had 4 surgeries within the past 5 years. I just use mental visualization to get my bladder to fully empty. I’d also like to see what DMSO can do. Thank you.

I suffer from ur from severe nerve damage during surgery for my sciatica back pain. Pre surgery I could urinate perfectly, no problem, post surgery I totally could not urinate although my bladder, prostate etc was in perfect shape. This is akin to severe spinal injury of my L4-5. That was 10 years ago until today. I keep hearing you mention treatment. But are those things like intermittent cathing, subrapubic cath, in dwelling cath, etc etc treatments? I think not. In the sense that I can never get my urine to drain normally due to my nerve damage, there is no treatment, right? In the case of prostate enlargement there are some treatments, eg surgery to reduce etcetc, in my case, I’ll probably bring this problem to my grave. Due to constant wear and tear, trauma from pushing the tube into my urethra in and out several times a day, for then years, imagine the suffering I have to endure. I stopped counting after the first 5000 times. Imagine an intense sunburn at the base of the bladder, before during and after cathing. I smile every time I read doctors stating nonchalantly, draining the bladder 4-6 times a day, like it’s a walk in the park. Having normality in your life, having sex, are you kidding me? Also, using those packs of throwaway cath 6 times a day? That’s going to send you to the cleaners, pun intended. Just saying.

Using a new catheter 5 x per day is 1,825 x a year. When I didn't have insurance I used 1 rubber tube all day. 52 catheters a year. I just kept it in a baggie n my pocket. If your catheter is hurting you get a different brand. And you can get a smaller size. I use Teleflex Rusch FloCath Hydrophilic catheters Fr16. They are very soft and flexible, and easy to use. I have tried about 5 different ones. These are the best. Yes, it sucks, but you gotta protect your kidneys from back pressure, So don't ever delay draining your bladder, and move the catheter out an inch and back in again to get the last droplets out and prevent infection. Edit. I hope your back doesn't hurt too much anymore. I cut back on my physical activities by about 70% so my back doesn't hurt much. I'm getting fat and lazy and weak. But no more shooting pains and I can wipe my butt myself.

I have the same issue. This is why (if I have kids) I do not want to have the epidural . Every surgery is hell. I cry and scream with pain. The f-ing doctors do not care. They care more about giving me a uti... I mean I rather get a uti from a cath. then have my bladder rupture or other problems.
