Very nice idea with this series! I really enjoyed this first episode. Keep 'em coming! 😍 I would love to have a better view of Neil playing the piano, so an additional camera above the piano would be awesome. Cheers!

I knew I was a pianist when I was a kid but school refused lessons (couldn’t afford piano). I gave up thinking it was over for me. Then became a drummer, then a flautist. Great to hear your story. Wish you would be my teacher.

Im a drummer in piano players clothing!

@@neilcowleymusic @neilcowleymusic - Ah - that doesn't surprise me now you mention it. I was in a noisy guitar band called The Zimmer Frames. It was a bit too noisy for me really. I played mostly classical flute, with some jazzy bits, e.g Claude Bolling. Now I sing in a proper choir. We recently sand Coleridge's requiem, which was pretty sublime. Your song, Marbles reminds me a bit of Arvo Part at the beginning. Is there some influence there?

I'm definitely a fan of Arvo Part. Love his memorium to Benjamin Britten. I hear more Shostakovich in Marble perhaps but thats not a million miles away from Arvo.

That was brilliant. Thank you. So interesting to hear where the influences are - all of which are the same for me. It's really good to hear you trace these links that I've also always felt - the weird funkiness of Bach that sits with the rigour, etc. I'm an amateur composer and I try to find my own voice but you're such an influence that I end up sounding like a duff version of you. More please: keep going.

I'm sure that's not true! Glad you hear the funk in Bach too.
