As a knitter of advanced age, I feel the urge to comment about knitting techniques. I was originally self taught, but I have been open to learning new ways of holding my yarn when the opportunities arose. I went from throwing with the yarn in my right hand, to continental style-wrapping the yarn through my fingers of my left hand(as in crocheting) and picking it with my right needle, to holding the yarn against my left hand needle without running it through my fingers to tension it, to holding both yarns over my left hand pointer for colorwork stranded knitting, to knitting left to right with the yarn over my left pointer (knitting back backward) to prevent “rowing out” on my purl rows. I began the process of changing the way I hold my yarn when I was in my 40s. I would practice with a scarf-knitting the whole item with only the new technique. Sometimes it didn’t look so good, but I was determined. My point is that a person can become comfortable with a number of ways and directions of knitting even after learning in one way.

Great points!! Totally agreed that there are always new techniques to try, even for advanced knitters

I think you broke my brain with the left handed knitting, haha! Pretty incredible that you're able to learn new techniques through videos, which are mostly right handed.

For sleeves, I use pool noodles that I cut to the length of the sleeve without the cuff because I don’t want to stretch out the cuff then put the sleeve on the foam noodle. It helps open whatever pattern there is on the sleeve like lace or cables etc. and it prevents the crease on the outside of the sleeve. Beautiful Mobi! It turned out fantastic and looks amazing on.

Wow your Moby sweater is perfect!! A tip I have for the sleeve seam that occurs when blocking. Cut a pool noodle in half or quarters length wise, depending on it’s size and just put into sleeves when the garment is flying flat so the round edge is facing out….works like a charm 😊 Take care and happy knitting 💓

YAY🎊 for blocking success. The texture of your sweater is beautiful and kudos to you on your patience for knitting through and sticking with those charts. I think I'm going to have to check out that brand of yarn. I usually stick with the familiars. That deep rich color for your husband's hat is terrific. And yeah, love how you don't have to search for the center pull and end up with tangled yarn barf. Your socks are awesome. I would steal those. How wonderful to have close friends who knit with you and kudos to them learning such a cast on for the first time knitting a sweater. Wool of the Andes is a solid workhorse. The Zakkuri Cardigan I had test knitted, the yarn was on sale and I got it for $2.99 a ball. What a steal.

Yeah! Finally someone who knits like I do. I am actually left- handed, so it comes naturally to me. I am a fairly new knitter and have struggled to find tutorials that show left- handed knitting. Beautiful work this month, Amy.

I really like watching your podcasts because your shares and the ways you talk about your knitting are very genuine and clear, a big thumbs up. By the way I also just finished my own Moby Slipover, an interesting knit, the pattern also didn't really describe the sleeve band pick up, but I think the moss stitch made the end result quite nice and even.

You've been so productive Amy !! As always, super enjoyable video. I particularly love how you've been playing with jewel tones (and inspiring me to try out these navy colours), they really pop and suit you and your dark hair so much. So good to hear about the process behind this moby sweater, thanks for sharing ! ♥

Hello! I was excited to see that you have knit a sweater that is already on my list to knit. The Monday Sweater. I have not yet done a Petite Knit pattern, but I think that will be my first. I am also thinking of knitting it in a blue color. I want to use Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in the colorway Icicle Heather (at least that is my thought right now). I have just started watching your podcast the past couple of weeks and am really enjoying it. Thank you! You are pleasant to watch and listen to. Kudos on branching out into some more colorful knits!

Hi Amy ☺️ I really enjoy your channel! This is definitely a suggestion but honestly if you wrap your yarn from front to back and use your right needle to pick through your stitches you'd be a pretty fast continental knitter 🥰 your literally knit the same as me but what I call knitting the row backwards. That would definitely eliminate purling for a piece knit flat, but if you look up Norwegian knitting by knittingtraditions you'd soar in knitting. All of your projects are a dream to look at. Happy knitting 💕

Another pattern which reminds me of Petite Knit's Sophie scarf is the Telma scarf, which is also be Gregoria fibres. The lace motif provides what I believe to be a more elevated look than that of the Sophie scarf and I think the pattern could be relatively easy to adapt to make a longer scarf or perhaps even a shawl..!

Your Moby sweater looks great! I am currently making a pair of socks out of the Knit Picks Hawthorne yarn in the Panettone color and they're working up great - I am using a deep teal/navy contrast color and I can't wait to wear them! I have been really liking the Hawthorne yarn, it's a pretty heavy fingering and it isn't as soft as some other sock yarns I've used, but it seems like it's going to be really durable.

I’m so happy you’re doing a colorwork project too! And steeking 😮 I’m still intimidated by that technique so I’m excited to hear your experience with it! I’m also an English style knitter and just learned the two stranded/handed colorwork technique for and it definitely gets some used to but once you get it, you FLY by. I used to just drop each strand and knit with one hand but i noticed my floats and tension were uneven. Can’t wait to see your progress!!

Hi Amy, love your Moby sweater. Wow you are speedy. I hope your friends you are knitting with don't get discouraged comparing themselves to you. LOL. It will be such fun to help new knitters. Also, I was wondering why you are knitting your Lopi sweater flat since you said it is a steeked sweater....sorry just curious. Thanks. ❤

Great question! I should have mentioned, just the bottom band is worked flat but the whole body is worked in the round. The collar is also worked flat. I guess just a few less rows to steek?

Hello Amy... I dont remember if you knit the no frills sweater though i have on the needles i would love to know what is the the diffrence from Monday sweater and nofrills..?
@neknits
@neknits Жыл бұрын
Hi there, I have not knit the No Frills Sweater. But from a brief overview of the pattern descriptions, it looks like they have the same gauge and yarn. The Monday sweater has a folded neckband while the No Frills does not, and the Monday has a multi-stitch raglan line whereas the No Frills just has a single stitch raglan line. No Frills has a suggest ease of 6" while Monday has 6"-8". They are quite similar otherwise, hope that helps!
