I don't know what Nelly wants for herself. If she's fulfilled in life then that's the most important thing. The problem I can observe from a music business perspective is that her performances and musical styles are inconsistent. She doesn't seem to have a cohesive brand. All the genres are so different that her fans are all over the place with no connection to the spectrum of genres they come from. Take Beyonce for example, she explores different genres but overall she leaves some songs on the album that her core fans still connect to. Taylor Swift does the same and Adele does the same. Adele, Pink and Sade for me are the most consistent Artists that have a perfectly cohesive brand. I always trust their work. They know their audience so well and never disappoint. Nelly has the same branding problem as Christina Aguilera. They seem to struggle with being cohesive and consistent. I don't even know if they are aware of what their brand is. As a fan of two of Nelly's albums I can confidently say that I didn't connect to any of her other records. Her best work are also her most successful because the record is cohesive. Her artistic brand is inconsistent and not cohesive. She needs a great team to tell her the truth and help guide her to build a cohesive brand if she cares about the business of music. She clearly has the work ethic of building a big brand so how about be disciplined with being consistent and create a cohesive record consistently? Her fans love a certain type of music from her. So even when she wants to make something special it is important to stay connected to the audience that also love her. In the end it all depends on what Nelly wants. I'm just giving my opinion as someone's who helps businesses build cohesive brands that increase their chances of success.

Love Nelly and glad she's back! Praying for her success! Now, I hope the same for Britney - once she's taken the time to fully heal and live her life. Actually, in between loose and spirit indestructible , she had an album in Spanish, with the single manor al aire, but I get what you're saying. And yes, folklore was amazing, but as you say, and specuially at the time, the sound might not have clicked with American audiences.

Glad Nelly is back and all she need is to keep putting out music, and needs to be more out in the public and everything will fall into place. Consistency is key but she'll be fine like the Star she is.

I love Nelly and it’s a shame that her more diverse, introspective side didn’t get the chance to shine (Folklore, The Ride). Hopefully as the pop scene has gotten more explored she may have the chance to show it again . Or just give the fans what they want. Loose is a solid pop album, hence why it sold 10 million copies. She can play both sides if she’s smart at marketing, like Taylor swinging into her own Folklore and then coming back to Midnights.

Ourrr grrrl Nelly ... Vancouver Island, Victoria. Killin' IT at45 yrs young. Pple thst may not know she stepped back to raise her now 20 yr old daughter, plus always in relationships. Her 2nd and 3rd kiddos, with Hodgy Beats, are about ages 4 and 5 or 6. She 'bin busy.
