Splat, as someone who owns the boardgame, let me tell you this about your 2 objectives: Exploring all rooms is indeed hard in a single player game. In a multiplayer game, it is one of the easier objectives. If you self destruct the base, the queen dies, so this one is actually easier to do! There are also rooms that can give you "insta kill" options but they're tricky to time correctly. If you have a larva, you don't have that many chances to die at the end of the game. It really depends on how many contamination cards you have in your deck. There are 1 or 2 "chest burster be burstin'" events in the game though, and these will insta kill you. During a boardgame playthrough, I had a friend die on turn 3 because of that xD Finally: keep cards in your hand after passing. These help prevent the aliens from ambushing you when they spawn. It's not a cheese move from the game, you just didn't know that because it's probably not explained properly. But yeah, don't pass with 0 cards in your hand, or you'll give aliens freebies all the time.
@GameTimeWhy2 жыл бұрын
do you think the game is as good as the board game? I'm trying to decide on what to get.
@kungfuchef85002 жыл бұрын
@@GameTimeWhy it seems to be a completely faithful adaptation of the boardgame, but the UI seems a bit incomplete. For example, everytime you explore a new room, there's a token that says how many items you can find and if the room is broken, slimed, on fire etc. The rolls for that seem to be made in the background and you don't know what actually is rolled, so that might add to some confusion. Also, the events are really hard to notice as everything happen so fast during the event phase, and when an intruder spawns (that's what aliens are called in this game), you should see a number that indicates how many cards you need to have in your hand to avoid being ambushed (what Splat was complaining about, but he didn't know about that rule so I can't blame him). So in short, give the game some time to polish the UI a bit and give better information to the player about what's happening. It's an early access that just released so it's OK that some stuff isn't perfect. Also, the game is meant to be played with multiple people. A solo experience is not really how I would suggest to play the game. Even 2 players isn't really enough. 3-4 players is perfect and 5 also works fine, but if you have friends who are slow to take decisions, the game could drag down a lot. There are objectives where you need to kill other players and these are super fun to do if you manage to pull it off. The boardgame is something like 200 CAN $, at least that's what I paid for it with all the minis pre-painted during the kickstarter. It's super fun, but it can be frustrating for some people. The game is meant to tell a story, it's not meant to be competitive. You might get super bad luck after super bad luck even if you do absolutely 0 mistake yourself and that's just how it goes sometimes, but some people have trouble dealing with that. So, if you don't feel like taking such a huge financial hit for a boardgame, this seems to be a perfect opportunity to experience it.
@kungfuchef85002 жыл бұрын
@Mojo TheRising nope, it only "reveals" rooms, you do not explore them. In order for a room to be explored, you need to flip the exploration token that's associated with the room and the only way to do that is to get inside the room. The game does a poor job showing what exploration tokens are, but it's early access so I hope it will be explained better in the future. As a solo player, the objective is not necessarily super hard. Splat could simply sprint through all the rooms, send the signal and get out in about 7-8 turns. Having a serious wound is honestly normal business in this game. You don't know how many times I won the game with 2-3 serious wounds.

Nemesis board game player here. Killing the queen isn't as difficult as it sounds. Don't forget you can self destruct the base. That will 100% kill the queen. Self destructing the base is fairly easy, especially as the Hacker. You just have to have a way out of the base prior to self destruct going off.
@stankobarabata24062 жыл бұрын
Oh it isn't difficult... unless you're with the Scientist and roll awfully, like I did. Man... that was my first run. I went on a bad luck streak - the first person to engage a Visitor was me, and it was the goddamn queen of course, so I tried my luck with the shitty pistol our hero in a wheelchair had. Barely scratched it, while it mauled me and left me injured. Badly. Almost impregnated me too. Managed to escape in a technical vent or whatever those were called. Later the only person who was with me instantly tried to betray me. Her reason? She wanted to escape with her brother. The same brother who had already teamed up with another person, and we were in the engine room while they were at the pilot/command room at the front. I was so shocked she expected to ever reach him safely, let alone for them to not instantly betray her since they've already set their plans into motion. And she did get betrayed, of course. I still don't get why she didn't trust me when I literally ran into a room with her when she attracted another Alien, then she ran away next round, and when I tried escaping myself, she used the card that forces me back to the room with the fucking Alien. I managed to escape again, and in a plot of ultimate betrayal - I hacked the nearest computer, locked all the doors I could, set off the self destruct, and started causing noise in every room. Eventually I got killed, but I took em all with me.
@nokturnallex21602 жыл бұрын
Playing solo isn't really how I'd ever suggest someone play lol. The Devs really need to allow players to play singleplayer as multiple characters. Currently, I'd only suggest playing with everyone on Discord so it's at least similar to the board game. People in matchmaking currently don't talk or use teamwork and teamwork is essential to survive even when your objective is to kill someone. (Just make sure they die in the last rounds) They also should've included the optional Co-op only mode as it's a much better way to teach new players. (It's honestly also more challenging than the standard PVP + Co-op mode as you have to complete every objective as a team in order to win, any objective not completed = everyone loses and you can't pick or choose objectives, you get what you get) Thankfully, you can play Lockdown, Nemesis and Aftermath on tabletop simulator though so you can do all those things just not in video game format.

Just a few points to explain: 1. Intruder (or “aliens”) attacks are drawn from a deck of cards and each type of Intruder has a different probability to attack. That will explain why Creepers seem to ignore you, their type has few cards (but very deadly ones) in the attack deck. 2. As was already pointed out, cards left in your hand are used to prevent being surprised by intruder encounters. Having few or zero cards is a sure fire way to get infected by a larva. 3. The official board game FAQ clarified that CSS pods can launch multiple times in a game. You could have totally hopped in that bad boy and dipped. Thematically, it’s just the CSS cannon reloading and firing another cargo pod out. It’s great to see one of my favorite indie creators playing one of my favorite board games. Good luck! Nemesis is brutal AF solo.
@DartianBlade2 жыл бұрын
1. Noise die is 10 sided not 6 :) 2. When alien attacks from noise tokens others noise tokens are removed from room 3. You can get "empty" token then you get attack event from noise tokens so no attack 4. Then you get danger (claws) you put noise only on empty corridors. So sometimes it's better to roll claws than a number, if room is already getting noise from every corridor 5. If you have free hand you should always pick up corpses, because you may stumble upon lab to get knowledge. Knowledge gives very nice bonuses 6. If larva attacks you, you get contamination 7. Attack die is 6 sided. You chances depends on class and which size alien you encounter. I would recommend to read nemesis board game manual. It would add a lot of knowledge! Knowledge from board game :) Cheers!
@nokturnallex21602 жыл бұрын
If larva attacks you get contamination AND are infested by the larva. An event can cause you to instantly die at that point, so good idea to get that larva out ASAP. (Surgery Room usually, but there's items that can remove it as well) Also Splat thought that if all the CSS pods launch, there's none left. It's bad wording on the developers part. The way to think of CSS pods is to think of them like a Conveyer Belt that only turns on at certain times, "All Launch" means if you're in any of the pods you just escaped, but a certain one could still launch again afterwards. (And if Failed to launch is pulled and you're inside a pod, think of it as the conveyer belt pushing you back out)

For the the amount of raw elbow gristle you have poured into this review AND tutorial, I have to leave a comment on this one. Coverage like this is why I'm subbed to you and watch every one of your vids, and honestly this one takes the cake for quality I've seen from you. These 40-50 min videos really are your sweet spot for reviews, while not every game has the content to be cut this long, it really is the perfect length (giggity). This is amazing. I remember watching a review of this board game by Shut Up & Sit Down. Even as a real board game, you could tell there was really something that could have been better served as a video game. SC said it: the game's got a ton of moving parts, things that you have to keep track of, that don't really work in a board game, but can be easily handled by an AI.

I knew nothing about this game whatsoever to having a pretty decent idea of how it plays, so I'd say that's pretty good for a video under an hour. That said, a handcrafted single player campaign that slowly ramps up in difficulty and complexity would do the learning curve wonders. A lot of games with more complex systems will hide some of them early on, and slowly introduce them as you progress so it never feels overwhelming at the start. Campaign missions can be shorter in length, and on smaller maps with specific objectives and classes. Add a bit of extra narrative to keep the players engaged. Give players pointers, but don't hold their hand unless they're completely stuck, and then you can tech them, without talking down to them. Improves retention, sales, reviews, and online longevity, as it won't only be board game veterans, and stubborn people sticking around.

This game looks like it's a direct adaptation of the board game, so if you want to learn how to play you can always go watch the board game how to play videos. An example is that the explore all rooms objective in the board game is much more intuitive since the card that lets you look at two rooms has you do it secretly and place them back facedown. I think the game would need some decent house rules to play single player for scenarios exactly like this.

4:20 You need to read the tooltip again, I think. There are 3 conditions, connected with a logical "OR". You can totally use the bunker, if you activate the self-destruct early or get a item (probably a key card)? 35:30 As I understood it, those are CSS launch Windows. And if nobody is inside the pod, it will not launch either way. So that was a window for all occupied CSS to launch. The others Launchwindows affect CSS of the group A, B or C. And come after this "launch all". So it is clearly more a Launch Window, not a actual launch.
