Mayuri's contribution in this arc is insane. First, he maintains the balance of the souls when Quincy invades. He helped in distributing those pills that Urahara created to recover bankai. He saves all zombified Captains, lieutenant and Kenpachi. He defeats Giselle and Pepe. He also defeats the left arm of the Soul King with the help of Nemu. Lastly, he created Chair-sama for Aizen. Truly the MVP of this arc! Yhwach underestimates him by not putting him as one of the Special Threats.

Basically Pernida died from cancer caused by Nemu's overgrowing cell metabolism (without part of her brain controlling it that is), pretty ironic considering Soul King's left hand represents "advance" aka growth. The person speaking at the end is Nanao, and you'll soon know why she's featured in the opening.

This episode is beautiful in so many ways. It adds so much more depth to Mayuri's character and might be some of Kubo's best writing and has many parallels. We always thought Mayuri treated Nemu like trash but we learn here that he was basically just an overprotective dad. We know that Mayuri doesn't care about losing any test subjects or experiments but the only one he cares about losing is Nemu. Nemu is the culmination of everything that he is. His development of her is the reason he was promoted to Captain and her outliving her projected life span became the realization of his dream. She is his greatest work and in many ways, his reason to live. Like a dad wanting to watch his daughter grow up. Mayuri might be a psycho and scientist through and through but we learned that he still in fact can experience emotions like love. Lastly, the biblical parallel that Nemu was completed at her 7th iteration in the same way that God created the world in 7 days and on the 7th day he rested is just so beautiful. Nemuri no. 7 was Mayuri's life's work reaching completion and after her, there was no reason to try and create another as she was evolving on her own. Mayuri was finally able to rest. Also, I found it so perfect that what defeated Pernida was basically the absence of Nemu's brain or rather, Nemu herself. The evolution of Pernida became senseless. Nemu truly was, in a way, perfect. Anyway, I'm gonna go copy and paste this at a few other comment sections of my other favorite reactors, lol.

this is one of the best fights in the series imo. the theme of advancement- kurotsuchi being a mad scientist originally obsessed with progression and now having that clouded by his love and idealisation of his own creation that he views as perfect, he falls victim to the very same mentality that let him lead Szayelaporro to his demise whilst in the face of a foe who can advance endlessly. And who would save Kurotsuchi from his own demise, but that very same Szayelaporro? He is forced to abandon his attachment to his creation for the sake of advancement. It's a beautiful theme. Also some cool details I noticed, firstly as Kurotsuchi's nerve agent infiltrates Pernida's finger he takes his finger off before it can take over his whole body, just as Kenpachi took his arm off before it infiltrated is, and then begins speaking in Kenpachi's voice, showing he learnt that reaction from Kenpachi. Secondly, it devours Nemu because it learns to from Ashisogijzou :)

The reason why Akon called it Mayuri's way of being sarcastic is because Nemuri means to sleep. Mayuri said right before that it's foolish to dream while awake so he named the project Nemuri so he could fulfill his dream while being awake. Essentially Nemu is a dream come true for Mayuri but obviously he would never admit that because he's too prideful. Also the 2nd part of the title card Never Ending My Dream is a reference to the fact that the Nemuri project will keep going on and on. So Mayuri's dream will never end

I think that Mayuri calls her Nemu instead of Nemuri Nanago is because she stopped being a science project and he started considering her as his creation (in other sense his daughter) also, she was created from his cells thats why his drugs work on her too (usually Mayuri develops drugs that only work on him).
