Nene gets angry twice 💢 grandma gorilla

Before lunch Nene was angry and chased Shabani.
First, Annie played a prank on Nene, which made Nene angry.
Shabani was chasing after her, so I thought she was probably protecting Annie and turning Nene's hostility against her.
This anger made sense to me, but I could not understand why she was angry with Ai at the door before lunch.

Nene seems to get angry when one of the other two females goes inside before her. I’ve seen videos of her screaming at Annie for doing the same thing. It seems to be a group hierarchy thing and she takes it as a challenge to her dominance as the oldest female. Plus she’s old and cranky! It’s probably still a bit colder outside than she likes and she was anxious to get back indoors.

It looks like, when nene chased ai inside, shabani must have gotten tired of her crap and he ran in there and scolded her. Judging from the way she was screaming and the wound on her arm. But nene is always being nasty with somebody here lately. Who knows why. It usually starts over kyomasa, and is usually a misunderstanding. Whenever someone else is playing with kyomasa she acts like they are killing him. You would think that after all the times that shabani has scolded her, that she would learn to calm down, but she was born in the wild so....

Well mate, you said it all, Nene is going senile, screaming & flapping her gums, she doesn't like Annie or Ai going in before her when she is near the door. Notice how Ai went to see if she was ok, when Ai got a huge open wound due to the chaos a few months ago, Nene sat next to her & didn't comfort her, that pissed me off. I just can't deal with her nonsense anymore. Great comment.🙋😉

@@sonjavandam1306 she is a feisty old girl, that's for sure. But they seem to have a weird relationship anyway. I was never able to understand how when nene would attack annie, ai always stuck up for nene and not her own daughter. I know that ai didn't raise annie, but you would think that she would stick up for her just because she was a toddler. Nene has always flew off the handle over every little thing. And with everything going on, I don't think shabani is in the mood to put up with her.

When she had Annie I think she was so traumatized & afraid of Nene she switched off because she was scared of losing her the same way. This is my opinion only as nobody has said one way or another how he died, Ai is loyal to her mom & I think she is afraid of her..🤔

Let me explain it to you then. Nene who is 50 years old is still the alpha female, because her own daughter will not supplant her. And as the zoo has kept her alive way beyond what the social structures of the species can handle this troop is locked in statis. All she has to do to keep her dominance is keep it with Ai. So she attacks Ai and harasses Ai. Who is actually her only ally in the troop. But there is no other female to supplant her. Ai at 20 is trapped under her mother. Thanks to the zoo keepers.

What do you mean by “retired”? It would be very cruel to make any gorilla live alone. Just because they’re not always as gentle and polite with each other as we humans think they should be doesn’t mean they don’t have strong social bonds. They’re fine, a happy, healthy gorilla family group.

Ai let’s her mom Nene bully her.

Tbh, the family is just displaying natural behaviours for Gorillas. This was nothing to be concerned about. The cuts or scratches that Nene or Ai have are nothing to worry about either. Gorillas are very robust primates. It's nothing to them to get minor wounds etc. If the wound is in reaching distance, then they will clean it and maybe pick it.. Gorillas heal very quickly. I don't get it when I read mean comments about Nene or any Gorillas for that fact. They are Gorillas that are just being who they are meant to be. To hear some people, you would think they were people. Just enjoy these magnificent animals. They have their own natural behaviours, and that's not going to change.

Well sometimes Nene was very obnoxious and mean. If you seen the old videos they looked like she wanted to infringe bad wounds in Annie and Annie at that time was an infant without the same strength as Nene. I think you’re the one that looks at them as humans and like any societies, they are not very nice as individuals as the case with Nenê. Thanks that Shabani was around to curtail most of her bad behavior against Annie! And sometimes she still does, looking around to check if Shabani isn’t around to protect Annie.

Wondering what Shab did to make Nene chase him. She was screaming at him😂😂. I’m little confused on who Nene was mad at and ran them out the indoor room at the end. As I was reading the History of this Gorilla family I saw that Nene was the Only one Born in the wild in Africa. Wondering if she was taken from her family. Or rescued 😢 She is Beautiful Mother and Grandma. But she is definitely the High up in the pecking order. No wonder her daughter Ai is not a good mother to Annie when she was born. She’s probably afraid of her mother’s reaction to her for mating with Shab.

I've seen Nene attack Ai one other time at a door. It was when Kiyomasa was going into the shaft to go downstairs. Ai went before him, so Nene attacked her. Kiyomasa attacked Ai after that as well. Nene did this when Shabani and Annie were already downstairs, so it was a calculated move. Shabani had to get involved in that situation too and chased Nene. I think the reason she was mad is that Nene was heading for the door and Ai got in front of her and went inside first before her mother. I understand that Nene usually goes through the door last. However, Nene was almost to the door and already about to go through it. I think that it triggered Nene and that's why she attacked Ai. Nene gets triggered by the doors. She sees Ai as the lesser female, even if Ai is her daughter. Nene is the dominant female in the group and wanted to dominate her daughter to reassert her power and position since she can't do that easily over Annie with Shabani getting involved. At most, Nene reestablishes her position with Annie by screaming and chasing, reminding Shabani that she is still the dominant female. Shabani was really worried about Ai at the end there and was watching her to make sure she was okay after the fight.

Yes, it’s natural for the oldest female in the troop to be the dominant one. They can’t help behaving in a natural way when they feel their authority is being challenged, especially when they’re cold and want to get back inside. Ai and Annie need to just respect her and let her go ahead of them, the same way they do for Shabani.

Is interesting it seems like right after the first part happened I was concerned and looking very closely to make sure her mother was okay seeming worried about her and then she said by her the whole time after that until something happened when Shivani up there on that level next to all of them and then they could to Nene chasing AI I think that AI knows that she is a strong full grown lady and that you is stronger than her mom is now but her mom did grow up to be a very large female gorilla she almost still seems like he's a little bit larger than a I maybe not though but she for her age is no problem speaking her mind and is not afraid of anyone yet she still definitely wants to let everyone know that she is the alpha female it's also has a lot to do with why he is afraid to get too close to Shivani intro too much affection in front of her mom and mate because she still sees herself as subordinate to her mother plus she's on birth control so I think if you was not a control it would be a different story she might have heard Primal urges override that fear of bothering her mother but I don't think she was afraid I think she just didn't want to get into an altercation with her mom

Jealousy is a human emotion. Nene is the alpha female and not ready to give up Her position. The Silverback is not jealous of his son, he is just making sure his son or any other male gorillas that may seem a challenge, know their place. and, I’m not sure what the commenters who seem to really detest Nene expect the zookeepers to do with Her. She is still alive and I assume healthy.

That a funny story, if you get a chance to go back to a video 5 years ago, Nene carried Kiyo on her stomach until he was about 4-5 she also chased Shabs with him hanging on to her. That's why her arms are bent.😉
