When my dad was stationed in Hawaii and I was 12 I used to catch mourning geckos all the time. In Hawaii they are practically under every loose piece of tree bark. At one point I had this giant 30 gallon glass aquarium I got from a garage sale for five bucks and I tricked it out. I had this 10 inch tall tiny waterfall style fountain I put in for a substitute water bowl. In the bottom I put dirt and wood chips from the garden as substrate and I used fresh fern leaves and pieces of palm fronds picked from the garden and pieces of fallen tree bark and sticks as hides. I fed them by catching tiny insects and putting small pieces of papaya, mangoes and other fresh fruits in a little bowl. At one point I think I had more than fifty of them in a thriving little colony and then my mom realized how many I had and made me release most of them back out into the garden and from then on I wasn't allowed to keep more than twenty.

Secondly, your claiming that anyone who disliked the video, disliked the video because of what you say, which is actually just your opinion, but you state it as a fact. They are super fast. Had an adult escape and found her 3 months later and reintroduced her to her colony. Have also found babies in my Crested Gecko tank when they have escaped also.These ladies are true escape artists and will sit on the back of food bowls and escape through gaps in doors when you open them. They also make adorable little chirps when there are a lot of them. I keep lots of different geckos (Lechie, Giant Day, Crestie, Gargoyle, Leo and Mourning) and they are all so awesome and different its amazing.

The youngest one had well demonstrated that she's a great little problem solver by the first day that I had her. She hooks her sheds onto plants and walks in the opposite direction to pull all the skin off in one move and has learned that I deliver the food so will chirp and glance and spiral around on the front of her container near her food bowl when it's empty to get my attention so I change it for fresh. She runs rings around most of my other lizards mentally and is still a juvenile. Can't wait until she's an adult and can make her own pals. The older one doesn't like her at all.

Lesbian lizards ftw. But I'm pretty sure he's referring to the fact that they don't actually pass any genetic material to each other. They're exhibiting mating behavior, but not technically mating according to most definitions. 'mating' has a more specific meaning in biology than 'sexual activity' or 'sexual behavior', which would be accurate terms to refer to what these lizards are doing.

Thanks, Clint! After seeing your videos on these tiny insect geckos, I did a little research and got 2 of them a few months ago and they have been so much fun to watch and so easy to care for-which has been great since my health isn’t very good at the moment. I named them Miss Piggy and Kermie because the bigger one has the habit of pigging out on the food and chasing Kermie around for a bit, chirping, when she comes out to eat. Kermie is less afraid of me than Miss Piggy and seems to like to hang out in the corner of their enclosure closest to me, which is nice because it means I get to watch her when she sheds and does her adorable eye licks. I have them in my bedroom so I can watch them and care for them easily when I’m not feeling well. It’s fun to listen to their chirps at night.

I've got my colony in a large, live planted, bioactive Exo Terra arboreal viv. The edges are all taped up, the sides of the doors, everywhere. And I have a strip of bath sealant to take care of the gap where the doors don't quite meet in the center. The tape is all gold, so it looks quite good and I've had no escapees. There is still plenty ventilation because of the mesh lid. My only issue arises when I need to catch some for rehoming - that is not an easy task and requires at least two sets of eyes to make sure no one makes a quick exit! They'd not last long in winter in Scotland! Lovely wee things they are, I thoroughly enjoy watching and listening to them :)

I just set up my exo-terra vivarium based off of your guide video and it looks great! Thanks for this video, I have decided I will either get a crested gecko, mourning gecko, or a whites tree frog! You have helped me so much Clink! I will 100% be donating as soon as I get the $50 I am owed.

Ive seen people whove managed to handle them (with work of course) and they can be very good for it too (again, a LOT of work)

I have a mourning gecko and idk if its just mine, but it is actually decently handleable! She is very comfortable around me and has never run away when i was testing it in a controlled environment :D which is a win

I have never heard of a reptile reproducing asexually. This is so cool! I'd like to see video on the Rosy Boa or African House Snake. If you wanted to do amphibians, the ribbed newt looks awesome. I just saw one a few weeks ago. I had never seen them in USA.

These geckos are adorable! We just got some where I work and they are just little babies. I had to catch one for a customer, and that was more nerve racking than any other reptile I've ever had any interaction with. They are so tiny and so cute!

I got one of these about 2 months ago together with my dart frogs in a fairly large bio-active jungle vivarium. I just havn't seen it again since, too much jungle to hide in. The frogs are doing great so I guess the gecko should be fine as well.

I saw these little guys in the wild all the time in my trip to Hawaii! I managed to catch one with just my hands and I called her John… I didn’t know they were all females with the same genes! They’re like little amoebas, it’s adorable!!! John also jumped straight onto my face after lookin at me funny. It was an… experience. Hope John’s doing alright today.

well now I want some mourning geckos. thank you Clint. your channel is amazing
I recently bought a 'bonded' pair of adults at an expo. They are so cute, but are still a bit afraid of me and like to hide. I freaked out at first when I couldn't find them and was terrified that they had escaped. No. They were buried in their moss.

I have, and love mourning geckos. I’m so glad you did a video on them, fantastic to watch, so active and fun. So fun to own considering their tiny body size. They hunt like crazy and feeding time is very owner rewarding, fruit flies don’t stand a chance!

:/ Do you have like a website or page that you can fill out the five categories and see what you get? Like say I boop 4 Handability and 3 care, etc. I like your videos but I can't watch them all on my work breaks. I'm trying to find a good pet for my small rented space. Edit: If you make one can it link another page or video(s) about it's care?

Im planning on upgrading mine to a 40 gallon aquarium converted to a vertical terrarium with a custom acrylic door. Use real fine mesh vents and itll be a large elaborate setup for a colony that the babies cant escape from 😊

These types of gecko are pretty much all over here in south Florida. You can catch a dozen of them in just 10 minutes during night time in lighted areas. (apartment buildings, etc) Not to say you should catch them, but if you're in Florida, they're everywhere.

I suppose this pertains to any parthenogenetic species. How do you keep from being overrun with geckos?
@dumbsterdives5 жыл бұрын
One point (im no expert but from what ive read on these in particular) is that when you have two they stimulate each other to start reproducing, so in theory if you just get one you shouldnt get nearly as many, if any
@lucusrose5 жыл бұрын
Gamecube Controller I suppose the question should really be, how long after you separate them until they stop producing?

I just wish they were larger and a little more (a lot more) chill. Mine were not handleable at all. They were good at producing a little army, but I was having some trouble with the very final stage of the eggs. I could see getting them again. Also, they are super vocal. Lots of cute little gecko barks!

Do the adults raise the babies by themselves or do I need to do something because I don’t know anything about breeding.
@ClintsReptiles5 жыл бұрын
The babies raise themselves. Adults will try to eat then.
@fishyfishyfishy500akabs85 жыл бұрын
Well except with crocodilians and some lizards, also most turtles won’t really try to eat their babies

I was walking down the stairs an hour ago when I saw a half inch baby mourning gecko just barely running, gently I got it in a small tank, condition it rapidly with my brother (we have a year old Leopard Gecko and are breeding mealworms and crickets, so we have substrate to spare) And now, we have a new baby gecko, i hope the enclosure makes her happy and gives her a long life Shes just running around exploring and breathing normally Fyi. Whom I think is her mom lives in our front yard, shes been growing well thru the years
