Regarding greasefang, keep in mind they are standard legal in a set full of solid 1v1 vehicles. Keeping the vehicle would be nuts on tempo and card advantage in standard for 3 mana.

Now I just have to find that channel that reviews cards for casual, 4-player Tiny Leaders. ☺

A card I'd like to mention for Greasefang is Oswald Fiddlebender. On your second mainphase, you can sac a vehicle to go find another vehicle. Like sacrificing a Smuggler's Copter before it gets bounced to get a Peacewalker Colossus.

They didn't even mention how with Hinata, Dawn-Crowned you can destroy ALL your opponents artifacts and enchantments with Heliod's Intervention for just WW mana spent, or how Blatant Thievery is "steal the best thing from my three opponents for 1UUU." Hinata can be nuts.

Without tutors, value-engine commanders would dominate the playing field at higher power levels and almost all strategies that rely on rarely printed or unique card effects would not be viable. Just as an example: the fun, but niche, [[Patron of the Moon]] would be completely unplayable without a way to search for [[Amulet of Vigor]]. It would make the game much more luck based, to the chagrin of all playgroups where people want to play skilful matches. I agree that tutors allow a boring linear gameplan to the tune of: "Ramp, Play Commander, Draw Cards, Tutor Wincon combo, Play combo", but boring linear decks won't go away without tutors, it'll just be a different kind of boring, probably with more solitaire turns. I don't think wotc prints tutor hate cards because they want tutors gone from the format. Just like for any other powerful effect, it makes sense to have counterplay against it.

alot of times when josh says "It wouldn't be that powerful if they added xyz or did xyz instead". If that were the case, it would be insanely busted in other format. Like if Kotose also triggered if it attacked, it would be broken in limited

Exactly. If the card was in the Commander pre-con then yeah that discussion can be had. I feel the same way about the discussion around the boros samurai. Samurai in this set act kinda like allys did back in the day. It’s still not powerful, but I think it’s at least viable.

yeah, it's already a problem that they are often pushing legendaries as commanders in standard sets these days when they literally have commander decks for every set now anyway (think of the overpowered legendary creatures like Toxrill in Vow), but it seems like Josh wants them to do that even more. Also the "this card is white so it's shit" meme that this channel started is so dead its not even funny, white is like, really powerful now.

I think they missed the point that kotose takes out all copies of that 1 card and u get to play them instead. Hence why it's written so you take out the one in the graveyard first then the remainder. It would be annoying if she took out a counterspell or something like rats colony.

@1:55:27 - Mycosynth Lattice only makes permanents artifacts. This only affects things in play. Cards in your graveyard are not considered permanents. Lattice will only make them colorless but not actually artifacts.

@@indrafides2648 the old Samurai don't work with Isshin, and in order to work with the new ones you'll have to build it Exalted-matters, though not many of the new Samurai support this.

Do note: Aether Spellbomb doesn't draw you a card with Tameshi, Reality Architect, because the former specifies "target creature" and the latter "noncreature permanent".

True, but I think what they were saying is that it's a cheap artifact to get into your graveyard and recur with Tameshi, and given that Tameshi's recursion ability bounces a land to your hand, it indirectly draws you a card.

Neon Dynasty is full of cards that read “When a warrior or Samurai you control attacks alone, X happens” you could include a lot of those to create a good deal of value each combat in a Raiyuu, Storm’s Edge deck

Hinata is great in Jeskai mutate and 5 color mutate decks! Best of all it helps Vadrok by slowing down the opponents a tad. The discount on my mutates is a bonus.

About the interaction of Isshin and Hero of Bladehold: you can actually have four 3/1's here. All four attack triggers go on the stack at the same time, and you can order them so that all four tokens are created before the two battle cry triggers resolve. Isshin's ability isn't itself a triggered one, there's no delay between the creation of the "normal" triggers and the additional ones, it makes you create all of them simultaneously.

I think hidetsugu is my favourite multicoloured commander from kamigawa. I just really like the design space and there are a few different ways to break it with haste and infinite mana.

my first thought with risona is if you take damage she looses indestructable. There are cards that redirect damage to creatures you could run to preserve the indestructible perhaps. Then you could slowly move the indestructible counters over and there are cards that give more indestructable counters like kindred boon so you could probably make a very large indestructible force. world slayer probably the top win con.

Launch the Fleet + Battlefield Thaumaturge was one of my favorite standard combos, and now I’m gonna play it in EDH in my Hinata deck.

A type of effect that could be considered "shuffle punisher" would be cards such as Memory Lapse and Expel from Orazca that bounce something to the top of your opponent's library. You can also flicker Kotose at instant speed with Siren's Ruse and Escape Protocol to shuffle your opponent's library after they used a Vampiric Tutor-type of effect, or you can play Scheming Symmetry.

Kyodai is perfect for your hidden commander deck. It gives you all the colors so you get synergies you normally wouldn't with that commander, and it can protect that commander since hidden commanders have to worry about recurring them.

If you play with the black dredge cards with Greasefang it is a good idea to run some discard outlets, the bounce to hand part just changes priorities while deck building.

I realized with Go-Shintai, Ghen is also REALLY good for the deck. Not only can you WUBRG Go-Shintai to bring an enchantment back, but you can also sac one of your enchantment tokens to bring something back from the graveyard. Pretty nutty.

For Hinata: You can use Baral's Expertise as a counter for removal against the commander. Simply have it be one of the bounce targets, then once it is in your hand, choose it as the 4 cmc card to play for free. UU: bounce two things, counter removal/save Hinata from a board wipe. Seems pretty good.

Three of the cards they mentioned cards that synergize with Tameshi actually go infinite, but they didn't mention. Patron of the Moon, Amulet of Vigor, and a bounce land gives you infinite landfall. Activate Patron putting in a bounce land, resolve the untap with Amulet first. Then in response to the bounce trigger, tap your bounce land for two mana and have it bounce itself. You now have infinite landfall and infinite colored mana. Also Walking Atlas and Retreat to Coralhelm and a bounce land do a similar infinite combo.

You talked about the fact that Isshin triggers on your opponents attacks too and nether mentioned on of the best cards for this Deck: Revenge of Ravens. Double trigger means: They eat 2 Damage and you gain 2 Life for every attack (and you can make this very efficient by Goating a lot to force them to attack).

Also, Risona, Asari Commander while not an amazing card is really being undervalued. You have to note that the indestructible counter is only removed from COMBAT DAMAGE. So all you have to do is prevent people from attacking you with creatures, which being in white makes it quite easy! Effects like Ghostly Prison or Windborn Muse come in very handy. Or you can add cards like Silent Arbiter to limit people from going wide attacking you. And then there's fog effects...

imo for Greasefang, Mukotai Soulripper was made for it since you can resurrect a vehicle, crew it and then swing Mukotai to sac it and give it +1/+1 counter and menace helping it grow with out needing a necessary token generator

Notably for Hinata and Baral’s Expertise, you can target Hinata to bounce things and then cast Hinata for free, if for some reason you don’t have other targets. You can go infinite with mayham devil(for infinite damage)/ xorn(for infinite mana), hidistugu, pittiless plunderer, a zombie, and gravecrawler. It is a 5 card combo.

Kyodai seems like it could be a really fun commander for a birthing pod deck. It can make the pod indestructible and gives access to all five of the colors so you can grab the perfect creature with your pod.

For Hinata, if you use things that force sacrifice or bounce on something targeted and *all* the targets you named get bounced or sacrificed then you could have a situation where the spell is then countered for lack of valid targets and you don't get any other effects. That could be good for reality shift where the spell has a downside but bad for snap where it has an upside.

I like Shrines for fun but after watching this I am actually looking more at Yoshimaru and Satoru for other decks I wanna build for sure. Tameshi and urza's saga. Possibly bounce urza's saga back to hand when the 3rd counter is on the saga, get your 1 or 0 drop artifact, play urza's saga again. Can also just recur it with Tameshi from your graveyard. Bonkers!

Tameshi is actually a great azorius landfall commander. With patron of the moon, all the moonfolk, and white land search you can get some great payoffs (Although not as powerful as any green land deck). Azorius Aethermage is definitely a staple with any of the return permanents effects. Sad about the noncreature part, but still excited about this commander! Definitely making a deck.

One card to look at in conjunction with Greasefang would be Mechtitan Core. Get that baby on the battlefield, Parhelion II in the yard and if you have 3 other artifact creatures - easy to find in black and white in Neon Dynasty - Mechtitan exiles them all for a hasty 10/10 that stays on the battlefield, and gets them all back if/when it gets answered.

Currently building Hinata, I feel like you may have missed some of the really crazy interactions. Reality spasm is an excellent ritual, Curse of the Swine just exiles all your opponent creatures for UU and replaces them with 2/2 Boars, Mass manipulation is instantly viable, Volcanic Eruption kills all your opponents' mountains (which can be chained with Blood Moon)...

I can't wait to build Isshin, though I'll be going more heavy on the Neon Dynasty Samurai style, so lots of the new Samurai and lots of Exalted and attacks alone stuff for me. (always loved Sublime Archangel, and this is the perfect deck for her) With secret tech like Lightmine Field and Powerstone Minefield, as well as some other deterrents like Marchesa's Decree or Cunning Rhetoric effects, or opponent encouragement like Curses and Frontier Warmonger effects.

I think the Hinata definitely wants Crackle with Power! Copy your commander twice (I think you'll be able to copy it plenty thanks to blue) and you're now guaranteed to deal each opponent 30 damage (3 player targets, 3 creature targets) for TWO RED.

I was thinking about archaeomancer’s map with tameshi, especially with oboro. Each turn, when your opponent played their land, tap and bounce your oboro, draw a card, then put oboro back on the battlefield with the map trigger.

I’ve been saying this for years but the most fair five color commander and the one I love and my pet deck is horde of notions. The cost is fair the recursion is awesome. It’s exactly like you talk about. There should be a cost for playing five colors.

Tameshi's deck will run some number of moonfolks. The first line of Tameshi cares about noncreature permanents, some moonfolks do have decent abilities that activate by bouncing lands. So the Moonfolk offering from Patron do mattters.

With regards to the Forced Shuffle archetype, you forgot Psychic Surgery! I wish there were more pay-offs than those three though (at least in Dimir colours) because I have a Circu, Dexile Lobotomist deck which is focussed around selectively (and also not so selectively) exiling cards from opponents libraries (think cards like Sadistic Sacrament, Denying Wind & Extract) which incidentally also force your opponents to shuffle their library.

With Baral's Expertise, you could add Hinata as one of the targets and then cast it with the second clause. That's the floor. I was also waiting for them to mention Curse of the Swine as a great boardwipe.

Battlefield Thaumaturge actually does not work with Hour of Eternity. The Thaumaturge only reduces costs when you target CREATURES, while the Hour of Eternity targets CREATURE CARDS. While they appear the same, they are only creatures when they are on the battlefield.

When it comes to Grease fang, You can also run sac outlets to sacrifice them at the end of combat while they are still creatures so the deck will be Vehicle Aristocrats, lots of Sac outlets also MILL YOU!!!

I really like these review videos, but it always feels like they forget that most of these cards are designed with Standard/Modern in mind, not Commander. It just feels like they’re really critical at times about cards that are meant for another format (Kotose, for example)

I’m actually excited for Kyodai for a voltron style. That buff is huge. I already have a 5 color Voltron deck with monophon. But that gets it’s buff through tribal synergy and with kyodai I can run every efficient way to pump a creature and get 1 hit kills through commander damage. 😎😁

Finally got a shrine commander that makes shrines somewhat viable now, Isshin which is a better Wulfgar and in good colors, this set is better than I thought it was gonna be.

Shrines will still be better with sisay tbh. My mate has a sisay shrine deck and it's not bad. It does take forever for him to shuffle though

Sisay is IMO better because you can just go get Sanctum of All or Go Shintai but it does add more power overall to the deck. I’m unimpressed with the 5 new shrines that are just weaker versions of existing shrines and easier to kill as creature enchantments. The white one is OK to get some blockers, since shrine decks just need time.

I feel there will be players who build it with Go Shintai as more flavorful over power. However getting the shrines out of the graveyard with cards that just put cards in the graveyard is still decent, again flavor over power. Sisay is still the probable best commander for shrine since she’s a tutor for all the shrines including the new shrines.

Hey one thing that I think is important about Tameshi: the card draw does NOT trigger when bouncing creatures. It only triggers with NON creature permanents. (Still think bouncing is underrated but creature bounce won’t give added synergy here)

Gavin Verhey on his recent video of unboxing Kamigawa he said that going forward they dont want to do the 5C commander with an easy casting cost going forward but this set was before they came to that conclusion

There are so many cards you didnt mention with Hinata, but everything kinda target. This is the one I'm building 100% .. SUper interesting commander Tameshi is the other I find super interesting as a value COmmander .. Mystic Sanctuary Turns Loops seems powerful with them If Not The "Constellation" Sultai commander looks cool Isshin is gonna be overplayed for sure. I love all the directions you can go with them I liked the assessment of all commander in the video. Pretty much spot on .. Great job You forgot to mention Norin the Wary in a Boros Yoshimary deck. 4 Triggers will make it big so fast

I'm super excited for Greasefang, I've built a draft of her with a discard and sacrifice subtheme, discard effects are great cause they're usually cheap and get you some benefit (Idea is to discard vehicles before you cast greasefang), Pack Rat is also a great card in the deck because Greasefang is also a rat. Also plenty of Board wipes since Vehicles can usually dodge creature based board wipes
