@@goldybutmoldy bro I watched that movie 3 times and still get chills every single time. The pacing, the chaos, portrayed so gloriously well with blasting fast-paced jazz drums and trumpets grab your attention and pull you into the story you start to feel like the mc in real time. Then at the end…GAWD. DAMN. SATISFYING!!!

I wasn't expecting them to take this particular angle when I clicked on the trailer, but it's actually kind of brilliant. The original story is one of my favorite King shorts - mainly because of the random and gruesome nature of the characters' deaths - and I think this one will do it justice.

I just admit this does look better than Longlegs.. but like Longlegs I was fooled by its flashy teaser/trailer and came out from watching it very disappointed that it did not live up to the hype. @@77Creation I mean, sure, he's not exactly a wordsmith, but I think his writing works for what he's going for. Longlegs was a bit campy at times, so I get why some people aren't into it - especially considering how it was marketed, but this movie especially is marketed as a straight up horror comedy, so I'm not walking into this expecting a deep and thought-provoking screenplay. I just wanna have a good time with some goofy, fucked up Final Destination-esque deaths and a killer cast and I think this movie will deliver in that asepct.

This and Word Processor of the Gods. Although they'd probably screw that one up somehow ("Smartphone of the Gods" or something lame)
@SpaghettiYOLOKing
@SpaghettiYOLOKing Ай бұрын
@Blackhoodie85 Word Processor of the Gods could easily just be a period piece in the 80s. Problem is adapting that to a 90 minute film. Sure, the amount of changes the word processor could make could be increased, but that would make the protagonist seem a bit cold or stupid to not think of his final two changes until after many frivolous changes. The short story had 5 changes that he put in, with the fifth change looking uncertain as the machine was on its last legs at that point. Or they could keep the same amount of changes and just really flesh out what happens between each input or flesh out the backstories. That would probably be the better way of going about it. That collection has so many good stories. Beachworld, Mrs. Todd's Shortcut, Gramma, The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands, Nona, The Reaper's Image, The Jaunt. All of these could be made into a film with the right care made to the screenplay and right director.

When I was a kid, there was a Goodwill across the street that I'd peruse occasionally. One afternoon I came home with a book of short stories called Skeleton Crew by Stephen King (as I'm sure you know). Being in elementary school, I'm pretty sure the toy monkey on the cover is what got my attention. When I returned home and happily showed my parents, they not so happily told me that I was not allowed to read the book and to put it outside. Not outside in the trash, mind you, just outside of the front door. I'm still confused by that, but my parents did a lot of nonsensical things, like being Jehovah's Witnesses. Hence, me not being allowed to read it. :) Well, not until a few years later when they didn't know about it.

I can explain that one. JW's believe that items can be possessed by demons, and keeping them in your home invites them to torment the owners. Stephen King's books are a popular source of these stories they tell each other. If you want to look for examples of these urban legends, one particularly famous one involves a Smurf doll coming to life in the middle of one of their meetings and walking down the isle towards the pulpit. It's almost always goofy stuff like that.
@AuntieClimactic

Alfred Hitchcock's PSYCHO was the film that made me fall in love with horror when I was 4 years old, and I have the whole collection of 4 films that starred Anthony Perkins. They will always be dear to my heart. And I'm so happy to see that his son, Osgood "Oz" Perkins, is making movies for a whole new generation 🎬 ❤

Osgood Perkins has so much potential. She's rapidly improved her filmmaking over the years. Her more recent films have been beautifully directed, acted, and edited, but always come up short in the plot and the writing. But she's getting better. With Elijah Wood and James Wan onboard, I think this has the potential to be her best work to date.

I had a blast every time that I saw this movie with my friend back in late 90s and early 2000s. It became a sort of ritual. I recently rewatched it stoned and it was even better. Trashy campy straight to VHS stuff that has a bright spot in my underground collection.
