The first saber build is always riddled with these moments. Second guessing comes naturally. But, when it is done and right, it's so worth it.

I know it's probably too late but you could save yourself some frustration if you got a better pair of wire strippers. The ones you're using are kind of bunk. They make spring loaded ones that strip the wire just by squeezing the handles together instead of pulling it apart by hand. I work with wires at my job and started with a pair like you have but once i tried a co-worker's fancier set i bought one myself and never looked back. They aren't even that much more expensive.

Watched the whole series (so far) today and I'll be following the next steps. I'm excited to see it 🙌🏼 been planning on making my own saber for display and cosplay based on a hilt designed and 3d printed by myself so I'm watching this very carefully! Keep up the good work 💪🏼

All this seems to be Is extremely common for a first build. I will say I'd highly recommend using more flux though. Prime all the pads before pretining them. Another tip I'd highly recommend is install the board first then pull all the wires through the chassis and solder everything from there. Soldering all the wires to the board last maked it extremely difficult to get the board in the chassis without force, especially when it's such a small chassis such as the one you're using. Can't wait to see the final result!

Soldering tip: flux the pads as well, use the holes on cfx pads to place wire through then solder, next pcb turn that whole thing around so your soldering right in front of you instead of reaching/soldering at the back of the pcb! Your doing good man keep up and tip on blades, it’s also tedious! You’ll want to trim some strips and will have to splice strips to eliminate dark ring on blade!

From what I have seen it seems that the most difficult part of this build is trying to feed all the wires through to where they need to be

Why didn't you put the cabels throu the wholes and solder them from the other side? That's why they are there.

Question for the community. I have a saberforge neo lightsaber hilt. Ordered neo blade from Etsy. Worked for a month. Tried a neo blade plug (didn’t work). Then I tried my blade again and I started having issues with the blade. Now the blade will not light. I did notice my plate on the bottom of the blade has small holes in it. Could this be an issue? Lightsaber still actives like normal, just no light.
@jedirogar2 жыл бұрын
Some pcb’s have the small holes around the discs, depends who supplies them. So am I understanding that no pixel blade or plug is currently working on your hilt? Do you have another Neopixel hilt to test those said blades or plugs in? You could also use continuity to check the blades and output of hilt side pcb. Don’t quote me but sounds like hilt side pcb may have a issue, does you hilt have blade detection? Any sounds when inserted? You may want to check the data line to the pcb, would be better to determine first wether it’s hilt issue or blade issue. Another thing I just thought about too, what does your original blade pcb look like vs the new one you got? I know SF went to threaded pixel blades and that won’t work with a lot of other pixel blades or plugs.
