Did you know, researchers believe there may be at least 6 subtypes of FSGS? Our community is primarily affected by 3 of these subtypes: Primary FSGS, for which there is no known cause, Genetic FSGS, which has a direct link to a genetic mutation, and APOL1 FSGS.
A mutation on the APOL1 gene may be responsible for up to 1/3 of FSGS in the United States in the African American population.
