Science is fighting against you on this one. The faster you go, the closer to orbital velocities you get, the higher your orbit, the slower you orbit the planet. It's a confusing principle to understand for many, but going faster actually means orbiting slower. The cause of this is gravity. Remember, an orbit is just falling and missing, right? Well the more energy you put into your orbit in the form of Delta V, the further from the center of gravity you get (assuming a circular orbits) so the slower you move because gravity is not pulling quite as hard. You can see this effect in Synchronous orbits. The further out you go, the slower you move in relation to the planets rotation until you are rotating around the planet at the same speed it rotates. Eccentric orbits behave differently because you significantly accelerate as you 'fall' toward your Periapsis, but it takes so long to get to your Apoapsis there is no way that would work in 80 seconds. So in short, the fastest you could go in space around Kerbin is right at 70km. Any lower and aerodynamic forces will rip you apart. You can however squeeze out a little time by going the opposite direction from the planets rotation. It won't be a significant drop though. I suggest a new video experiment for you NerdCubed. Put yourself in a 70km orbit and record the m/s listed on the NavBall. Then raise your orbit several times, make sure you circularize as close as you can each time, and record the m/s after each one. I think you will be shocked by the results.

The idea of orbit is that you fall and move at the same time... if you get to the perfect speed you have a circular orbit, go too fast and you don't fall fast enough, so your orbit becomes larger. Go too slow and you can't escape gravity fast enough and you just fall. It's nearly impossible. *But not impossible enough for Dan.*

find distance of the circumference at 80km, find speed that covers that in less then 80 seconds, at periapsis burn until you are going that velocity, face directly at center of planet, increase burn rate until the periapsis keep it's distance behind you (keeping it exactly on you is way harder then keeping is the same distance behind you), hold burn for an entire orbit to set record. I suspect the easiest way to achieve this would be to take a rocket with a very high delta V, generally a massive rocket, with an incredibly effecitent tiny rocket on top, and detach the small one after doing the big burn.
@SwagWagger9 жыл бұрын
+TheUntamedNetwork Jesus Christ, slow down Einstein
@thischannelhasnocontent86299 жыл бұрын
+p0t4t0p0ny It's not that complicated. Firing forward will always make your orbit take longer, and vice versa. Firing straight down (normal) rotates the orbit. Firing to the sides tilts it. So you would need to get a highly eccentric orbit for maximum periapsis speeds, then turn it with the normal burn to keep yourself at that speed. It's not rocket sci- oh.

I did the math after seeing this video. It came out that you'd have to orbit at a height of like ~30m from the center of Kerbin, so well into it's core. The alternative would be to get an orbit of 70,000m established and then manage to speed up your craft tremendously while also thrusting directly towards the planet. It came to something over 4000N to maintain an orbit at fast enough speed, not to mention getting up to the speed.

Circumference of Kerbin - 2(600km) x Pi ≈ 3770 km Lowest possible orbital height - 70 km Lowest possible orbital circumference around Kerbin - 2(670) x Pi ≈ 4210 km To go around the world in 80 seconds (without rotational velocity) - 4210km / 80s = 52.625 km/s To go around the world in 80s (with rotational velocity) - 52.45 km/s At those speeds you would escape the Kerbin system with no chance to complete a single orbit.
