WizardOf Because platypodes. Yes, it's a real word - if one follows the original Latin from which the word "platypus" is derived, the plural should, technically, be "platypodes", but since no single plural form is universally agreed upon by scientists or linguists, they just go with whichever form they like most. Great, now there's a linguistics post on a response to a quantum mechanics post on a Kerbal Space Program video on KZbin (man, I wish I could use italics here).

+Joshua Casey Start your turn BEFORE 10 km and be at 45 degrees BY 10 km, it's more efficient that way (and less flippy with rockets). Ease down to between 5 and 0 degrees BY 50 km and you'll have practically reached orbit in one burn. Cheers!

The way to best pull this off: choose a higher altitude orbit (say around 1-2,000,000m, though not too high, because then your corrections will be less precise) for slower orbital speeds, and hence better control by having slightly more time, and do corrections for not just one point of intersection, but throughout the orbit for perfect lineup. You'll actually need low-power engines to do more precise burns. Then the minute or two before impact use RCS last second corrections. Also, don't use your badass astronauts for these missions. They may do some crazy shit, but they aren't suicidal...

Dan--You need to watch some of Scott Manley's basic videos on how to orbit, and maybe do the KSP Tutorials.-Start your gravity turn at about 10000 meters for best efficiency.-The lowest stable and safe orbit is at 70000.-Scott Manley did it and it is possible, he even mentions you in the video.-If you divide your maneuver time by two, and burn when the time until node is that and burn then, your burns will be perfectly accurate (if you can point your spacecraft in the right direction :).-Also pay attention.

Dear Nerd Cubed the burns are caculated in such a way that all the force from the burn is cauculated to be applied all at one time. As you probally know by now you have to be very percise in space to get were you want. When you burn you have to split the time on both sides of the seconds till burn. So basically if the burn is 30 seconds long you will burn 15 sec before and 15 sec after the burn til time.

Just to make sure : the closer you are to encounter the "other thingydoodle that goes in the opposite direction", the lesser the influence on the final distance at which they will cross is for a said rocket burst ? For example : when there is half the planet to travel before the next encounter, a burst of 0.1 second would make the encounter marker (the orange one) change about 5km where the same 0.1 second burst would modify that value by merely a few dozen meters when there is only a tenth of the distance before encounter. Would that work like that ? Granted, if you did it right, you would get collision way easier by adjusting at the last minute while if you missed collision, it would totally offset the next "planet roundabout".

@Benaplus1 9 жыл бұрын
You should do another video on this, but there's a good trick to use: If you right click on the engine, one of the green sliders is labeled "thrust limiter." You can set that anywhere from 100 to 5%. The latter means that, even at 100% throttle, you'll still only me using 5% thrust, and the thrust further decreases as you decrease the throttle, as usual. So, you can use this, adjusting throttle as needed, for extraordinarily precise maneuvering. Definitely do this again, though. You were so close.

This may not even be possible without mods, the current physics engine cannot calculate collisions that might happen between frames and thus you might need something like Time Control installed to enter slow motion where the collision should occur.

you can use . and , for speeding up time and slowing it down and you click on any point of the orbit to warp there. and you can right click on the engine to decrease the max thrust. making it way more precise!!! starting the gravity turn at 15k was a thing a long time ago with the new aerodynamics 8-9 is much better. you could install mechjeb so it could do the orbit for you.

*sigh* nerdcubed , you had to match orbits as closely as you could so every time you passed the other spacecraft, you wouldn't have to thrust more to come close again. Then, you use your RCS thrusters to fine-tune the path and do it from varying sides until you collide. (Or until you get bored) Oh well.

Just to say it would of been a lot easier if you had one going round the equator and one going round the poles, if you get what I mean, cause then you would have a point where they cross, and just need to time it right to crash
