I also think the audiobook is worth the money, just because they got the perfect voice for it and listening to it feels like death is talking to you, but not in a creepy way. It's more like if you your friend was telling you a story over coffee and that friend just happens to be Death.

Emma Jelinkova I love that book. I actually watched the movie first, though. My mom knows that I love to read, so she saw the movie on Redbox and gave it to me. It was amazing. So amazing that I looked it up and discovered the book. So, I asked my mom for the book and downloaded the movie on my kindle. I'm re-reading it too. It was cool because on my first day of seventh grade, my English teacher told us that it was one of his favorite books too. P.S. You should have said spoiler alert for people who haven't read it yet.

I just came back here to find the next book I'll read because I just finished Allegiant, and I have to say I can't agree with you. Yes, I was devastated by the ending - No Spoilers! -, but I still think it was AN EXTREMELY GOOD ONE. No, it wasn't fairytale-like but isn't that one of the most enjoyable things about the saga? How the character's responses were always so believable it was impossible not to relate to them despite the (arguably not so distant) foreignness of their reality? This is just my opinion, and (since none of my friends have read it yet) I don't have anyone else to share it with, so don't take it personally when I say; people just have to learn to recognize a good ending when they see one.
@lilaloo8898
@lilaloo8898 10 жыл бұрын
María Belén Turnes I agree. It was a great ending, even though it was devastating. It's new, not like most of the endings of books I've read. I may have been the best one I've come across. And people should indeed learn to recognize a good ending when they read it.
@kaylaregan4879
@kaylaregan4879 10 жыл бұрын
I agree with both of you. I both hated and loved the ending to the novel and I think veronica roth had a lot of guts writing the ending that she did. To me, the fact that Roth is able to make those kinds of endings to characters that she created herself is amazing and can not be easy. It is what separates good books from bad ones for me and as infuriating as the ending was, I wouldn't change it.
@SqueakyCleanPJQueen

Okay, so for people who enjoy prodigies, excellent characters, complex worlds, beautiful writing, excellent stories, breathtaking romance and drama, or anything else that goes into good books: I recommend The Name of the Wind, especially if you liked LotR. Charlie Bone is also excellent for younger readers, and worth some time for the older ones if you like wizard school. Marcus Zusack or whatever it is that wrote Book Thief? Skip it and pick up his Underdog. Then I recommend Dune. Tarzan novels by Burroughs are well written and hilarious. Douglas Adams' The Hitchhikers Trilogy. All 5 (yes 5) books left me rolling on the floor in hysterics. That should get you started.

It's a pretty good story, the dialogue even is pretty well written but the narration is kin of simplistic and there were some creative decisions on the part of the author that I wouldn't have made. If you can get past that it's actually a pretty good book, but I understand if you can't, it took me two attempts to get through it.

As a history fan here are some of my recommendations for history books: Neil MagGregor's "a history of the world in 100 objects" and his "Germany: memories of a nation". He is the director of the British museum, he offers an engaging and different take on understanding the past. Michael Burleigh's "The Third Reich: a new history" really the only book you ever need on Nazi Germany. C. Scott Dixon's "Contesting the reformation" absolutely amazing book, more dense and more intricate but if you commit it's so worth it. Michael Klarman's "from Jim Crow to civil rights" The very short introduction to history is also great. And since I'm a history student, if I'm ever published, please read my stuff.

I can offer that in one way or another, each will have a character that stays with you long after you put down the book or leaves an concept or feeling that you will keep coming back to. The Story of Edgar Sawtelle- David Wroblewski. The Elegance of a Hedgehog- Muriel Barbery. A Still Life with a Woodpecker- Tom Robbins. Johnstown Flood- David McCullough. The Magic Club- Harry Brown. Summer of Night- Dan Simmons. A Prayer for Owen Meany- John Irving. Stiff- Mary Roach. Need I not mention anything by John Steinbeck or Gabriel Garcia Marquis?

You need to make another book video, I'm going book shopping once over break and I need more recommendations. I'm buying The Fault in our Stars for my best friend and I already own it and my friend had to take it away from me because I was crying because of Gus. Great book, thanks for introducing it to the world

I'm LOVING the Caster Chronicles (Beautiful Creatures series). I'm on the third book and i really find it interesting. I've also read and loved Divergent, the Harry Potter series, and most recently TFIOS. We read it in ELA and i went home on the first saturday since getting that book, read it, sobbed my eyes out, and read it again. Definitely one of my favorite books!

I just finished Augusten Bourroughs's novel Running With Scissors. It's a memoir about his crazy childhood and how he grew up. Throughout the read you feel so many different emotions: happy, sad, warm-and-fuzzy, angry, etc. You laugh and you cry, and it's an incredible book. I'm now reading one of his others, Possible Side Effects.

I recommend Hold Still. It's a really amazing book that is a bit sad but still worth it. It's about how a girl struggles to cope with the suicide of her best friend, a best friend that left no note, no explanation. She finds her best friends diary. This girl finally discovers herself, and as you wrote in one of your books grief doesn't change you, it reveals you. It's a really amazing story that covers loss, pain, and hope. You should read it. :)

I am very happy that you posted book recommendations. :-). I also love dystopian novels. I've read many of the books you recommended, and see you have similar tastes to me, so I am def going to read the rest. Michael Grant's "Gone" series is really interesting. And, if you like zombie fiction, T.W. Brown's Zomblog trilogy and Dead series are good. I'm also a fan of biographies and memoirs. :-)

Thirteen Reasons Why is one of my favorite books. It really makes you think about how what you do can hurt someone. It was a really inspiring book that I love and that sadly I have no one to talk about it with. I honestly love/hate books that really make me think and that make me cry and that make me just have to be in my mind for a while. It just made me think about everything and what could've been. I agree with you person, whoever you are, in saying that Thirteen Reasons Why is an excellent choice in books to read. Warning: it will kill you inside and bring on a horrible case of over thinking life and everything in general.

It takes a lot of contemplation and reflection to fully understand the complexity of Th1rteen R3asons Why. Not everyone can see the world in the way necessary to appreciate that book. It is my favorite (fictional) book in terms of how much I cried while reading it. It is only surpassed in that category by TSWGO, for obvious reasons. I recommend both of these books with caution.
