Yea, they are working on another. Robert Pattinson is my favorite Batman, not really my favorite Bruce Wayne. But he still did really well portraying him like you mentioned. The score was insane, and there were like 2 or 3 moments that were just epic in the movie. I loved that we had a similar reaction to some of those scenes. Seeing this movie in IMAX was INSANE! Introducing the batmobile still gives me goosebumps just hearing the sound. But thank you so much for reviewing this!! All of your reactions are great, there's just something about reacting to one of your favorite movies! 🩷

As far future installments, they mentioned revamping Mr.Freeze, bringing back Harvey Dent/Two Face, introducing The Court of Owls, etc. But as far as Part 2, anything can happen. We'll see in a couple years.

There is a video detailing the music that plays with the viewer. It pointed out that the Batman theme we hear through most of the film changes at the end, when our anti-hero realizes his old way isn't working, that he needs to step up the heroics from just beating criminals. And the music reflects the new mission scope. Also, as an old time Detective Comics (a Batman title) fan. I really appreciated the shift from comic action gimmicks to inner monologue and mystery.

The scene with the flare is so powerful to me. It's when he stops being Vengeance and becomes Batman, as the citizens of Gotham flow behind him like a symbolic cape - they make him Batman, and without helping people he's just another violent threat lurking in Gotham.

One thing that's often confused some watchers of the movie - no, Riddler hasn't figured out Bruce Wayne is Batman. He fixated on Batman as his "hero" figure, and wanted to hurt Bruce Wayne for being an orphan who had everything, but he never put the two together. Amusingly, this is why Riddler is more believable as a bad guy, he makes mistakes too.

That was the intention, to confuse the audience and make them wonder and then feel like Riddler _did_ know Bruce was Batman during the meeting until that one line of "we almost had him" and the knowing glance of Bruce. I personally haven't spoken with anyone that, after that moment, still thought Riddler knew who was under the mask.

Never would've guessed that the kid who played a sparkly vampire would make such an excellent Batman. I think my favorite bit is when he starts up the Batmobile- the lighting and sound design in that scene are amazing, it's like a monster coming to life. Not much humor in this one, even Christopher Nolan is like "lighten up guys". But I think they executed this story perfectly, I have zero complaints and look forward to the next one (whenever that happens).

This has been the only modern Batman film that I’ve seen more than once. I felt like a kid again reading the comics of Dennis O’Neil and Frank Miller. Dark, brooding, it goes back to type. What I really loved about it is that it went deep on Batman’s detective side, one clue opens another and so on, something that the previous films lacked. I recommend reading Batman Year One, The Long Halloween, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, of which this film takes elements from the first two I mentioned.

Although I’ve seen many of the Batman films in the theater, this one is by far my favorite, and I really believe that they nailed exactly the right tone for the Batman story with this one. It’s not that the other ones aren’t good, but this one strikes the right balance between realism and fantasy, and honestly fantasy takes a big back seat. With this one, the very idea of Batman and the other characters actually seem plausible, in a way that the other films don’t. It’s also so unremittingly DARK, literally and figuratively. This is a film best seen in a completely darkened room or theater. Even the “bright” scenes are muted. Robert Pattinson is incredible. Truly an exceptional performance. Paul Dano as the Riddler is phenomenal and unforgettable. All the rest of the actors turn in fine supporting roles. I’m surprised that you didn’t say anything about Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jen! Not only is he at the top of his game but he’s completely unrecognizable under one of the greatest makeup jobs ever made for movies!

JEN I'M SO GLAD YOU WATCHED THIS! This was an AWESOME reaction so thank yoooou! :D If you can, and I know you don't have much time, but there was a deleted scene with The Joker and they put it online, it's fantastic in its own right - I think they took it out because it distracts too much from the (already 3 hour!) movie - but if you could do a reaction to that as well? The clip is only 5 minutes and you should watch it regardless!

I love that this is 2nd year batman. He is still learning and getting the hang of things. He fights angry still with no restraint. He is afraid of heights. All the gadgets are crude and hand made by him. Batman is a rumor a myth and even common people are afraid of him. When he fights the bad guys still get their licks in. He isnt graceful yet as you saw with parachute scene lol. He even stalled the batmobile I think because it was his first night out in it.

@CuidightheachODuinn 10 ай бұрын
I don't think it was intended to be "he stalled the batmobile" and more acting feral -- like a corner dog who lowers is haunches and bucks forward with a snarling bark, more like he's "bucking" at Penguin and almost taunting him to run, as if he _wants_ the chase. That's how I saw it, anyway. Plus, the engine never cut out which it would do if he stalled it.

I had reservations about this originally, but it really captured the darker vibe of the comics. Batman is more of a detective in this one. Great reaction, as usual.

Batman is also called the world's greatest detective. This movie tried to show that part of him more than the other movies did. This is a very young Batman, only two years inti his mission so he is still learning and perfecting his skills. He is very capable but not as refined as he will be a few more years down be line, Batman debuted 85 years ago, this month. He has grown and evolved over the years and has tons of material for new stories,.

A fun connection between this film and another that I fell in love with recently - The Banshees of Inisherin - In The Batman, while Colin Farrell is transformed into Penguin (both visually and performatively), the Joker is played by Barry Keogh, who does a fantastic job in a supporting role opposite Farrell (and Brendan Gleeson) in that film. I think it's well worth a watch, sort of a period drama with decent helpings of very dark comedy throughout. There's also a deleted scene from The Batman where Bats interviews Joker to try and get some insight into who the Riddler is - it's a really fun scene, Joker takes every chance to psychologically abuse Batman, it's shot with the same playful camera focus, lighting, and obscured visuals so you don't get a fully clear portrait view of Joker's face. That said, I can see why they deleted it, I think it would've altered the balance of the film - to the point that even including the Joker in the narrative would've drawn too much audience attention because of how powerful the character has become by now

I was very apprehensive going into this movie, but then I watched it and was enamored for the whole long run time of this movie. One thing that this movie did better than any other batman movie was really showcasing his only real super power and that is that he is the World's Greatest Detective. Other movies put so much focus on his combat skills or the expensive bat-gadgets, that they miss one of the core aspects of the batman comics that it is mostly crime solving stories.

1.8K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! 😊 Notes: I never read the novels, but I enjoyed the "Twilight" movies! (I haven't seen them since they were new, though.) So I had no problems with the notion of casting RP in this movie. 😊 "Joker" came out first. There's a bigger age difference between Bruce Wayne and Joker in that one! The Penguin was supposedly getting his own spin-off streaming series. But the pandemic plus the corporate merger affected a lot of old plans! 😮 The new guy in charge wants the new "DC" to be one big shared common continuity between the comics, graphic novels, novels, video games, toys, and movies and series. The older material is to be placed in the "Else Worlds" category. I think his goal is to break away from "The Tommy Westphall Universe"! 😕 😮 I'm glad that you had fun with the movie! 😊 At this time, Lee Meriwether, is still the only "Selina Kyle/Catwoman" that I've met. Frank Gorshin, the only "Riddler". Adam West, the only "Bruce Wayne/Batman". I'm not sure about Burt Ward. 🤔 Some people that guest starred in both "Star Trek" & "Batman" besides Frank, I probably met too. 🤔 I miss my 20s & 30s. 😢

Absolutely LOVED this movie!! They did such a great job! I really REALLY hope they don't fall into the trope of having multiple villains next movie or any "super" villains. Keep it dark, gritty, detective based noir. One villain at a time while maybe Joker being just in the background for the first couple movies and then the final "Boss" in the last movie.

DC's #1 film of 2022 as it deserves to be. The Dark Detective era of a newly established Batverse. Without a doubt, this is hardcore classic Batman at his finest. DC's Detective Comics (est. 1939) with the tone of David Fincher's SE7EN and the Inspiration of the real-life crimes by the Zodiac killer. Matt Reeves did such an incredible job. Another great interpretation for the myths. One man against so many obstacles and learning to be the hero we know. Justice in danger and vengeance as the only thing that can save it. The casting is genius. The production is brilliant. The suspense, action and drama are incomparable. Michael Giacchino's score is one of the best batman scores ever. Colin Farrell's Penguin is getting his own series following the events of the film. But as far as it goes with another film in 2025, so many directions they can go from here. This path can go a very long way to go.

I even got free entry and went home with 2 of the movie posters xD I kinda felt like a celebrity for a night, especially because I needed to go to the toilet but they were renovating the back half of the cinema and the only bathroom was down a steep flight of stairs I couldn't go down on because the costume was too restricting xD The guy unlocked the door to the back just so I can use the ground level bathroom, he was a real G lol

The music is indeed awesome! I wondered why the movie is called "The Batman" with the definite article. Then it dawned on me, this is the origin story of Batman. Before, in the very first scene we see him, he says: "I am Vengeance". That is, he is The Batman, just a man disguised as a bat. But towards the end of the film, after his not so subtle rebirth from the waters that flood Gotham, he goes from being a symbol of vengeance to a symbol of hope, thus the batman becomes Batman. Can be a little bit difficult to explain when the words are so similar but hey. :) Great reaction as always, Jen. I have noticed for quite a while that you have a very musical mind. Would love to hear more about that some day. :) Btw., Charles Cornell here on KZbin has a video on why this music slaps so hard. Should be right up your alley.

Hi Jen! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this version before! Early in the movie where Batman is tracking down the girl in the photo, we see Batman observing through the window while the soon to be Cat Woman is getting dressed. When her cats appear, I hear you happily exclaim: “kitties!” I immediately ran it back because that’s not quite the word I heard…😆 Overall the whole thing was awesome! A lot of twists and turns. All the side charcters like Alfred, Gordon, Falcone and the Penguin all had parts that contributed to the movie. You never knew what was coming or what was going to happen, but the Batman persevered. I enjoyed how it was like a film noir: dark and gritty and full of bad guys. Watching with you it makes me appreciate the soundtrack of these movies more. You’re so good at picking up on it and pointing out how it’s adding to the movie. I don’t think they ever made sequels to this, but I could be wrong.

This was a great movie. The biggest takeaway for me was thst this movie highlighted Batman and the fear he put in the minds of criminals. I loved the Nolan trilogy but those movies didn't quite highlight Batman as much as this movie did. This was a true Batman fan service movie. I can't wait to see the sequel and the Penguin show.

@@geordiemc4571 Exactly...the entire story was centered around Batman..you come away in sort of awe of the character. The rest of the movie served to highlight Batman...the Nolan movies had great villains but they almost were equally as good if not better than Batman which kinda throws things off. The Dark Knight where he squares off against the Joker was a perfect example. The Joker felt like the bigger character in that movie. When you finish watching Pattinson's first movie, there's no question as to who led that movie.
