I feel that people in general forget that animals dont think like humans. NERD has been an inspiration on how to observe and connect with and animals body language. If you pay attention, one can really learn alot. Learning from our animals is what makes our journey amazing.

they look so sweet! A kid I knew had a monitor in the early 90s and man, that thing, you couldn't even get near it's enclosure w/o it hissing and spazing out. It was just a big, plastic bin. Its nice to see how tame and sweet they can be when properly worked with and socialized.

Amazing work, Kevin is so knowledgable the proof is in the way every single animal has 0 fear of him. I've had a lot of experience with these monitors are trust me they aren't just born like this, this behavior is only attained with knowledge and constant work. Very impressive. I wish Croc monitor bites weren't so bad, I would love to have one but in my opinion only people like Kevin should have them, they are potentially deadly when full grown and that's not an over statement, they have literal razor daggers for teeth and are extremely fast and powerful. Water monitors make amazing pets though, I had a really big one for years and she was puppy dog tame. I miss her a lot.

This video made me happy cry. Before watching Kevin this never really would happen to me. I can not even begin to express how wonderful it is to see another human that can read animals, respects them and values selective temperament breedings and socialisation in reptiles. If I am ever in a situation where I can support a water monitor, I will definitely get a black dragon from Kevin, but for now I am starting small, with a project to selectively breed hognose snakes, for temperment. Sure they are easy to tame compared to monitors, but an animal that is more comfortable in a captive environment where it is handled all the time is going to make a much better pet regardless.

If your experienced with wild animals you can read them. But my exprirance never hand feed them cause they acociate hand with food.i prefer bowls..hatchlings always put big pan of water n they naturally start using water pan to poop in..ones that are ranch raised are more wild n arnt pan trained.that makes alota more work for you.thir poop smells bad n if it's big your cleaning poo up twice a day..n it's a lot work. Thir the most awsume pet I recommend Asian water monitors. Black throats seem easier to.

I was into reptiles some 30 or so years ago, had a Chilean Dwarf Tegu, got it from a shop on Newbury St. in Boston. Loved it, it was like having a little dragon as a pet. I love the look of these baby water monitors, they seem super cool. I think however they would get way to big for me. I just fell back into this rabbit hole after coming across one of Clint's videos. I love what Kevin is doing here, so yes as a new audience member, I'd love more. I'd also like to know more about the breeding and what some of the terms used mean and maybe some of the secondary goals of the different subtypes.

Yes to more monitor and socialization videos. It takes a special man to continue lecturing with serenity while dead mice are smeared around the back of his neck. Question: What's the NERD opinion on the impact of multiple generations of captive breeding on temperament? It doesn't seem to have the same effect on every species. When do you start to notice any differences, and are there other factors that influence this?

Your baby croc monitors are gorgeous with their bright colouring were so cute climbing all over you. There were so lively, too. Perky little guys. "I'm not a threat, to them I'm a TREE..." LOL Watching the wee black one with his mouse was hilarious, him just wandering around, carrying it like a little trophy, "All mine! Lookee what I got!" Adorable. Your other guys nomming down on the crickets... The poor golden fellow who kept missing his noms, "First day with the new mouth..." *snort* Just came from watching Kenan's unboxing of his new Crocodile monitor Lagitha (sp?)--FEISTY gal! I don't know if she was wild caught, or not, but she was definitely not tame. Very hissy and pissed off when she arrived! Kenan built a boss enclosure for her, though, nice, big place with a cool hide-box on a raised platform, insulated with a shade canopy, heating mat inside, plants that'll grow to give her a nice jungle to climb around in (lots of creatively placed branches for the vines and whatnot to grow over). It's going to look awesome in a few months. I'm not sure how large crocodile monitors get--she's about five or six feet long, apparently, probably not quite adult?--so she should have lots of room to grow, but Kenan will build her a larger space when she needs it. That TAIL! She was really muscular, too. Handsome animal. I don't know if I will ever have a beautiful lizard like a tegu, or monitor one day, but I'd like to. I've met a few who were quite friendly and inquisitive, even with strangers. Bearded dragons are sweeties, too. :-)

I'm married and have kids, so that will be several years, but I refuse to get an animal until all its needs already are met. N.E.R.D. and Kevin are amazing. I purchased a Spider Ball as the first snake to introduce the family. While I grew up in South Georgia Herping my entire childhood on our wetland property, I was in the Navy for a number of years and never wanted to purchase a reptile until I was going to be out and settled. We love Clint's Reptiles as well, and cannot wait until they visit... Maybe ya'll can do a caiman video because that is also on my list as a reasonable Crocodilian.
