Kevin, I also suffer from SADS & it is debilitating at times. Having high lumen 'sun light' lights helps a lot as does having a 'jungle' of both flowering & foilage plants. You could set up your own sunny beach fronted jungle room. Hope you are feeling better... the ache eases over time. 🌹

“Normal” is overrated. It’s also not a very good descriptive word. Normal could mean absolutely anything. Since you mentioned that you are now paraplegic, I am going to go out on a limb and guess that you meant able-bodied. Now, I do know that being able-bodied is not overrated. I’m sorry for your loss, Michael. How long has it been since your accident? So, I know quite a bit about depression, far too much for my liking. My favourite type of therapy would have to be animal therapy, without a single doubt. I just love animals, of any kind. All kinds pretty much, although I’m not a huge fan of bugs! Do you have any animals? If you don’t, I would highly recommend getting one at least! When you are hanging out with your kitten/cat, puppy/dog or your water monitor/snake/tegu/bearded dragon, those thoughts that can bring about a really low mood/depression, they just don’t have any room to come into your mind. At least that is the case for me. I have 2 cats and they have really helped me during times when I have really struggled. Just being around animals makes me feel happy, so it can be a break from the pain that is often in my heart. At least for a little while. Those breaks from depression are important, in my humble opinion! You do whatever is right for you. If you don’t already have it, go and find your little bit of happiness in an animal shelter or somewhere like that. Give some little creature a second chance at life, with you. I hope you find it Michael! Good luck mate. I wish you all the best. 🙏🏼 👋🏼

Welcome back Kevin we missed you!! I can attest to the fact that depression and SAD totally blow!! I lived in SW PA for 53 yrs and had terrible issues with my depression. I moved to Longwood FL 7 1/2 yr ago and it has made a major difference! You can try Ott light bulbs and lights. They give off a spectrum of light similar to sunshine. Bottom line… depression just plain sucks and is something that you constantly have to work with daily. Most people do not realize the amount of work it takes to keep oneself from getting sucked into that dark black hole! Glad you are on the mend from being ill. Nice to see your smiling face 🥰

Thank you, Kevin, for talking about mental health. I, too, have chronic depression and anxiety. While it is a personal thing, I'm always pleased when someone who is as influential and successful as you are to give everyone the reality check of: Hey, I struggle with this too. I do this as well from time to time. It's important for people to understand. For those who don't have these things, so they can appreciate it. For those who do have these things, it's an inspiration to see that they can accomplish things too and not to let it hold us back.

It's good to see Kevin back and I suffer from depression and my seasonal depression from being in winter is terrible. Honestly although I love my animals more than anything in the world, being out of the house and being in a work environment keeping my focus elsewhere helps me feel better actually. Much love to you Kevin. You are allowed to take time and grieve and take a moment but remember it's a just a bad moment and you have so many other animals that need you who are still here. You'll never forget her and it won't get easier but it does get bearable.

Great to see ya Kevin, and happy that you're feeling better from being sick as well as being in a better headspace from losing Lilith. She's in our hearts to. Good to see you have some more new staff. They both appear to be really into being at nerd. Donny, I love the "This is How We Feed Retics" dig. It was appropriate and somewhat deserved. And I'm sure I'm not the only reptile lover that smiled back at ya for that as I truly wasn't impressed with the video either. I was totally happy that Kevin took them both to school on that. Glad to hear you're also back on your feet from the mystery sickness 😉, that so many of you recently had at NERD. Hopefully you are all back on your feet now. Keep Safe Always, Matt - Toronto, Canada

I'm so happy to see Kevin back at it again...but sorry to hear he's been sick after everything else I hope he and anyone else who's under the weather feels better ASAP!!! And welcome Josh, take good care of both the animals and the people of NERD... I hope this is the start of a fantastic new adventure for you. I love getting any information I can from Kevin and his wealth of knowledge about reptiles and snakes, and so many other things. And lastly, I'd just like to say, that I know how hard depression is by itself and much less with everything else, and Kevin should be proud of himself because he is doing a great job- he's helping ato safeguard wildlife his many projects, he creates literally beautiful life on the daily, he provides for his amazing collection of beautiful creations he's been fortunate enough to come across through the years, he's has made his animals comfortable in their home, and they feel safe to the point you can't get them to hood up(as shown in this video), and this channel is a fantastic place for useful information, not bogus fluff & BS, ( snake sh*t, as it would, lol)... and I know there's more and you did it despite the stuff in your brain that works against you, and I wanted to say awesome job, man! You need to remember it, too and be nice to yourself, ok?! And thank you for everything you share with us. Thank you.

Hi Kevin So nice to see you again. Greiving, depression, and being sick hit you hard, but I knew you would come back strong. I have depression to. I take one day at a time. You have so much knowledge of reptiles, and sharing that is so important to reptile owners. I do not own a reptile, but love all of your information, and have learned so I much from you. Those two very pretty adult monitors were so well behaved. Your socialization of them as babies had made such as big difference. Loved seeing the young black dragons, and the other monitors eat the live insects. I never knew that their diet was so important. I am always glad to see your next video. Welcome Tia and Josh! I’m digging that cricket container, I hate that any crickets I throw in the enclosure go and hide, grow, and chirp like crazy, you can never find them, neither can your reptile, and they just hide and make noise, I’m so gonna try that container method, I haven’t found a container yet that will keep them yet allow my babies to get them, easier to control ! Thanks Kev! Brilliant, love learning something every video!
