What’s always amazing to me (and I say this as a reptile owner who has a very large iguana) is that typically- when bitten, reptile owners usually act apologetically when their reptiles attack. You usually hear “it was really my fault”- like you might hear from someone in an abusive relationship. While Tom takes this stance to a point, he also articulated the inherent danger from keeping large carnivorous reptiles. It’s on the refreshing side. Anyone that thinks these are cuddly, tame animals are in store for a rude awakening. I’ve been bitten and severely scratched so many times that I’m embarrassed to wear short sleeves as I look as though I might be into self-harm and cutting. I wouldn’t recommend a large reptile to anyone that isn’t very serious and passionate about exotic animals. Not worth the trouble and potential danger.
@hellomate639 Жыл бұрын
I think the difference in this case compared to an abusive relationship is that you HAVE to have that sort of ownership and responsibility to own reptiles like this. It cannot be the reptile's fault - it has to be yours for faulty preparation since you're a human and the reptile is an animal. Are we animals? Sure, but we have a significantly higher amount of attention. An abusive relationship is a very different thing, where you have gaslighting and threatening. Tom, technically speaking, could just kill these lizards and there would be no repercussions or anything. It's very different than an abusive relationship. I don't own any reptiles nor do I plan to any time soon, but I wouldn't entirely rule it out. I think it's just wise to be aware of the risks. Overall, I really like Tom's response and ownership, as well as advocacy. Teaching people not to demonize animals is important; similarly, it's extremely important to maintain respect for what animals can do. As a side note, this injury and how much damage was done from such a minor bite from an animal far smaller than a person really got me thinking about how effective large theropods would have been as predators, including at taking out colossal animals.
@ryder864610 ай бұрын
@@hellomate639 idk people also have massive differences in mental capacity between one another, I don't think this argument holds up to much scrutiny the lack of consequences also, as people get killed all day every day with no consequences

He was hospitalized,and on IV antibiotics, because most reptiles,if they not venomous,these monitors have an incredible amount of deadly germs in their mouths He may have to go through another secondary round of antibiotics These big creatures need a huge amount of respect I know Tom does,you can tell how passionate everyone is at the facility Even if you're an expert in whatever field you're in, never let your guard down I hope all goes well for him
