This is very similar to the bollywood actor John Abraham. He was a model and frequently gets cast as a generic handsome guy, or military lead. But with his work with Akshay Kumar, who is an incredible actor in a lot of genres and primarily does comedy. They brought out so much of his character and soul in those movies. Akshay caries most of the comedy, but arguably John's movies with him are better than the more serious movies without him. He's incredible in comedy movies when he's given the right script.

I was exactly in the position of many others. I had no real opinion of Channing Tatum previous to 21 Jump Street. I sat on 21 Jump Street for over 2 years until I heard a number of friends who shared the same opinion on Tatum as I did say he was hilarious in it. Tatum playing on the dumb character that many boxed him in was the best decision he could have made and thats why this character worked perfectly for him.
