I kind of like a fusion of the 2 ideas Mom being an agent of shield and dad being an Oscorp scientist His father being a scientist adds a little more context to how he became a genius who can make things that some of the best scientists on earth can’t even begin to figure out And his mother being a shield agent could serve as a little extra flavor connecting them with the bigger world and not just being confined to Spider-Man’s story

My favorite version of Peter Parker's parents would be just normal people with no connection to the world of superheros and villains that Spider-man becomes a part of. Why? Well, it's too pat. It's too much of a weird coincidence. It's like Darth Vader building C3PO. It's a connection for the sake of it. For some reason, to me, all that convoluted mess cheapens the awesomeness of Spider-man's origin.
@samwallaceart2886 жыл бұрын
Joker is better without a backstory, and Spiderman is better just having parents who died in just a normal planecrash. If his parents are to have any part in a spiderman story, it should be to set up his ironic fear of being in an airplane.

You know, I always thought the unique thing about Spider-Man was that he was the 'every man's' hero, someone who can be revered and highly respected because like a lot of us; we have responsibilities that we may or may not want and no matter how difficult or tough the circumstance we can get through if we push hard towards it. With his parents being 'super spies' by being double agents, working for SHIELD and even having a hand in Peter's reason for being Spider-Man it seems more to be a life determined by fate and to me all his credibility of being that relatable hero falls apart. I'm not saying his father should be a blue-collar pipe cleaner or something but the parents history is so abstract they literally had to make comics out of the parents back-story because it's so convoluted. Will Marvel or DC ever learn that you don't always need to have a such dynamism in a history to be unique?

***** _bullylling_ in general is kind of overrated in the sense is even normal in life at that age (i'm not a bully and not saying it's fine which is _not_) and it's no where near comparable to watching your parents murdered in front of your eyes whne you're just a kid, but granted Peter saw his uncle diying, also having to work cause you're a man of a home even if you're the last one left is just _Life_ so nothing "rough" about that .... SpiderMan is popular cause he's a hero with those values in him, and Batman is that awesome cause he's just a non powered human being that knew how to live and get stronger throught such tragedy bigger than Peter's and then some, being richer doesn't really mean anything except you have more resources to use and other people wanting your money >:}

I gave Amazing Spider-man 2 a rewatch yesterday and everything you've said in this video makes me put things in perspective. Now I think I'm a little bit mad at Sony...I mean, I've always criticized the way Spider-Man movies have had HEAVY interference from focus groups and c-level executives since Spider-Man 3, but you've given a sense of perspective on what probably was the original idea from the directors. If you watch some of the director's interviews he mentions how the studio didn't let him fulfill his vision completely. If Sony wants to revive Spidey and escape the turmoil they're in right now I would suggest releasing Director's Cuts on both Amazing Spider-Man movies...win/win for everyone and it doesn't take much effort or budget. By the way, I just want to mention how I'm surpried I hadn't found your channel before, your content is great and your charisma doesn't fall behind either. Good job on this.

Darth Grumpy if you’ve actually read Bendis’ run on Ultimate Spider-Man you’d see how much TASM was actually really faithful to it and besides that there was heart in the films. It’s just that the original direction was constantly interfered with. I know there are a lot of flaws like him being a “skateboard riding hipster” but if we’re playing nitpicking at least he isn’t an Ironman sidekick. Now I believe Homecoming is good, but it too has flaws and I feel like people give less chances to the TASM films compared to it.

As I remember from my past readings they met their demise in a plane crash. They both are know to be SHIELD agents and traders to our country until Spidey clears their respective names. On the movie the character showed at the end and the creator of the Sinister Six is the one that plotted and killed Peter Palmer's parents.
@ZachsMind4 жыл бұрын
I prefer to think that Richard and Mary Parker just died in a plane crash and it was tragic but it wasn't amazing or spectacular in any way. Ben and May were asked by Richard and Mary to keep an eye on Peter while they were gone and they just never came back. Not everything has to be heroic or dramatic. The story of Peter Parker isn't about what happened to his parents. It's about what happens to a family after great loss, and how we rise from that and try to make the world better and climb to the peaks in spite of the valleys in our lives. Peter couldn't save his parents, but one thoughtless inaction on his part was one variable that led to his uncle's demise, and THAT is what gnaws at him.

Basically, because back in the Golden Age everything was simpler and as a form of WW2 propaganda most bad guys were ugly and red skull was supposedly conceived to be the nemesis of Steve Rogers who was the most respected among all heroes at the time so the Red Skull opted for a face that not only would be a vision of terror in the eyes of his enemies but also a symbol of everything that is evil (which implies ugly) and opposite to Captain America. I don't wanna give away spoilers in case Scott makes this video for you, but basically the ORIGINAL Red Skull chose to look like that.

So The ASM Cinematic Universe is smarter than people think. Hmm. After reading the Spider-Verse stories this week, I hope Sony does make a deal with Disney or at least take advantage of the more supernatural and far fetched side of Spider-Man material instead continuing to copy Fox's style of gritty, realistic, no magic, no aliens, no fun. Plus, my favorite version of the Parker parents is full-on SHIELD agents.
@Co0kieDealerr9 жыл бұрын
I think they really should've used the scene in TAMS2 where peter meets his dad. It's also a huge shame the franchise didn't continued as it had a lot yet to explain in the story. I'm hiped for the new upcoming ideas for the Marvel Spiderman movie coming in 2017 (or C.A. Civil war)
@NeutralGuyDoubleZero7 жыл бұрын
...Anyone prefer when the back story was that his parents died in a plane crash accident? I don't mind his parents being scientists with valuable research or whatever but I don't like it when stories try to make a simple back story more complex. It makes it less relatable and just dumber. Of course it can be done right but that doesn't happen as much as it goes wrong.

@maneatingcheeze8 жыл бұрын
+SgtSupaman Actually, Mary Jane is a singular name. Sort of like Mary Beth, Maria Theresa, Mary Sue, etc. Because Mary was and is a very popular name in Christian societies it became necessary to add a second name as a qualifier. This in no way was a middle name as when Mary-Blank names came about middle names did not exist. That said, I do not know if this is true in the Spodermen series of comic type books, but It is true in the English language.
@SgtSupaman8 жыл бұрын

I feel bad though for the rebooted Spider-Man movies. They had an idea, but I'm afraid too much Sony tampering ruined it. We need a decent Spider-Man movie where it goes back to the more detective approach. Where are the mysteries and big reveals?! Anyways, hoping Civil War Spidey is good.

Andrew Purvis Spider-Man 2 was great... It had action and actual emotional depth with characters you actually cared about. Alfred Molina will be Doc Ock for me for a long time now I suspect. It will take a lot to top his performance of the character in this. I also actually think Spider-Man 3 had strong redeeming qualities, especially in Thomas Haden Church's sublime Sandman. If the studio hadn't bloated it out and insisted on the Venom arc, I think this could have been a great movie. Not perfect, but very good. I probably could have even forgiven it for it's version of Gwen ;) I think Marvel should raid the casting of these movies for their Spider-Man tbh... Not necessarily Maguire ofc (though I liked him in the role), but gems such as Thomas Haden Church, Molina, DaFoe, Rosemary Harris, and, ofc, J.K. Simons!

If Peter comes from heroic stock, it kind of lessens the Ditko run where he has to grow from oppressed wallflower to someone who is strong and who stands apart from his peers. If Peter was just unknowingly falling into the family tradition, it's not as meaningful as his being a regular guy from a regular family who rises above. The story Ditko did absolutely required Peter to begin as an everyman.

Wow. Those backstories were beyond stupid. Too convoluted and snowflakey. Best version would be to not bring them up, and if they still had to - just make them regular people who died together for some reason.

Hey there Scott I want to start by telling you that I love your work and how you always come up with interesting subjects for your videos. I love comic books but here in my country(Romania) it's very hard to get a hold on them, there was a time when I was able to find some and most of them were Spiderman and Batman comics which is great because they are my favourite characters(i even had a comic crossover between Batman and Black Phanter) so finding your channel is really a thrill for me because I get to learn and expand my knowledge of comicbooks(I usually get my info from Wikipedia). So thank you very much for doing these videos I'm a new subscriber of yours but I became an instant fan of yours, keep up the got work dude. Oh by the way in Spiderman The Animated Series there a series of episodes that tell this story you have presented mixing it whit a bunch of other Spidey tells but they give them a twist llike making Electro and The Cameleon Red Skull's sons, introducing Captain America, The Sinister Six and other stuff all in one. Looking back at it it's a pretty nice twist to the Spiderman story and you might like to check it out. Keep up the good work mate!!!
