Yes. I love clean look of Crystal. Crystal Season 3 artstyle may be my fav because of shiny moe eyes, there was no need to change it with Eternal movie but it is what it is. If they ever do 3rd Sailor Moon anime they should go with Crystal season 3 artstyle for all seasons. And seasons 1-2 of Crystal artstyle is very detailed and I love seasons 1-2 of Crystal too.

I really like both, as a SM fan. The 90s is longer to watch, and if you like SM, you don’t want it to finish so quickly like the Crystal ver. The 90s is heartwarming. I love how the senshis show mercy and they don’t kill some ‘villains’, like Souichi (Hotaru’s dad), Nehelania, and a few more. Though I must admit the 90s version was a bit darker, like when Endymion turned evil. The Crystal is beautiful, sad and also heartwarming. I love the OSTS such as ‘The Light of Rebirth’ and ‘Hotaru’s Feelings’. There were a lot of sacrifices such Tuxedo Mask saving Sailor Moon from Kunzite, Pluto getting herself killed to stop time to stop Prince Demande from ending the world, Hotaru sacrificing herself to return the hostes to the sailor senshi, and Saturn getting sucked in along with Pharoah 90. Aside from all that, I love both, they’re just 2 anime that I cannot forget and always remain in my heart.

I actually really liked the 90’s dub. It was what I grew up on. The opening songs was very catchy and I still know every word to this day. And I really miss Darien calling her meatball head. It just made so much more sense to me. (The 2 round parts are like meatballs and the flowy hair coming out is like spaghetti noodles. come on. that’s funny.) I liked that Rei was mean to Sailor Moon and kinda picked on her. It was her way of showing she cared and wanted her to do better/be her best self. (She treated Chad, her love interest the same way at times.) I did like that Sailor Moon Crystal speeds things up and had a better plot. However, I wasn’t a big fan of HOW much they sped it up. 13 episodes per season? They cut out so much character development. And I’ll admit, Darien was a bit of a jerk for no reason, so I liked how they changed that. But as a kid, I enjoyed the whole enemies to lovers thing. They’re both good in their own way, but the one I grew up on will always be #1 to me.

I beg to differ I grew up with the original dub in the 90’s it actually taught me a lot about friendship especially the end of sailor moon on the title sailor moon says . Despite what everyone say I can’t stand the new dub of sailor moon I can’t listen to Venus voice cause it’s Lucy from fairy tail never got into it. You forgot to mention that Sailor Moon Crystal is more in depth and very faithful to the manga. What I'm trying to say is that the villains Jadeite, Zoisite, and Kunzite was actually the Sailor Scouts boyfriends and Mamoru's guardians in the first season.

Both have their pros and cons. For people who are new to the series I'd recommend them Crystal because the pacing is faster and there isn't as much filler and overused mechanics like the motd dragging the flow of the story down.

I have to disagree with you on the '90s dub. Hawkes, Bernstein, Griffin, Frappier, Roman, they were all exceptional voice actors with iconic and readily identifiable voices and voice-personalities. Sheh, Higgins, Valenzuela, Ruff, Leigh...they're almost interchangeable, squeaky, flat, semi-high-pitched voices reading lines. One could not identify any of them individually.

I finally got around to watching Sailor moon Crystal 1-3 on Hulu. It was in my queue for 2 years lol. I have to say I really enjoyed it. I think Crystal is for people who have read the manga becuz it follows the manga closely. I watched the originally anime back in the mid 90's during my middle school/high school days. It was my intro to anime aside from Dragon Ball. I liked Crystal's updated animation and the theme songs are good. I also liked how they removed the filler episodes. The 90's version was notorious for those filler episodes but it was charming and it did add character development to the Sailor Senshi. I read the manga in the early 2000's in college and the manga was way better than the 90's anime. I would only recommend the 90's version if you haven't read the manga. If you want see a tighter and more action pack version of Sailor moon watch Crystal. Also Chibi Usa and Tuxedo Mask are more tolerable in Crystal.

Yeah about those villains. I probably would’ve liked them more in the original series..... had they not continuously backstabbed and killed each other. Are we sure the Sailor Scouts are needed? Cuz the villains seem more like a threat to themselves then the heroes are. In Crystal, in Crystal they’re much more fleshed out, actually work together as a legit threat, and aren’t needlessly killing themselves because they want their masters to notice them.

As someone that didn't grow up with Sailor Moon. I didn't have that connection like majority of the fans do. Pokemon was what I grew up with and all I knew of until I was a Teenager. Wasn't even until my Half Younger Sister was watching Sailor Moon Crystal that I got into Sailor Moon. So, Crystal is what I watched first. So, I got a huge bias love for it. So, it the one that I prefer. I love Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos because it is a direct adaption of the Manga. Plus it had no Filler Episodes. I hate how many episodes that 90's anime has all because they decided to have be way more Filler than actual story progress. Plus, I don't like how they had Rei, her Grandfather, and even Mamoru as in the 90's anime. Manga/Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos had way better versions of them. Plus, I hate how they messed up Season 4 and 5. Season 3 was literally only season that I loved from the 90's anime. Plus, I do love the 3 movies as well. Season 1, 2, 4, and 5 were good, but because they mess up a lot of things and added a lot of Filler. I can't find love for 90's anime. Only way I can find a way to watch 90's anime nowadays is whenever I decide to watch it alongside Crystal/Eternal/Cosmos. If I don't do that. I would go insane from my hatred for 90's anime. Btw don't get me started on how much that I hate the original 90's Dub. I haven't seen whole thing, but I seen clips and heard the VA's for characters and they just make me sick and disgusted. I hate the original 90's Dub completely. Makes me glad that I didn't grow up with it and wasn't what I watch first.

This is one of those times in anime ect that I don’t mind filler episodes if I enjoy the characters and the world they are in, like naruto I didn’t mind and enjoyed the characters ect too but for some reason didn’t enjoy all the fillers in comparison. Some anime can pull it off for a majority of people and some can’t pull it off in the same way. Sailor moon to me was one of those shows I didn’t want to end unlike one piece that I also love but sense that story has a real goal about finding the treasure of one piece it comes off foolish they somehow haven’t even come close to getting to the grand line yet even tho so many episodes aired not to mention the distance they must of traveled by now as with sailor moon yes the goal is to stop the negaforce/queen barrel but can only do that when the enemy decides to show up and stir trouble again and early on has no real way to get to queen barrel so the goal in reality can’t be achieved without learning more about the foes and the world they live as with one piece once again the goal is right there on earth that they realistically should of arrived by now unless they just happen to be on the complete opposite of the world from where he started and even then should of arrived by now unless the earth is bigger in that anime compared to our own and I doubt that’s it. Bottom line is the filler episodes is about the characters dealing with everyday stuff together and near the end the enemy shows up and they put a end to it, one piece might have some character development fillers too but most of the episodes are like dragon ball consisting of fighting a strong opponents for 20 or more episodes straight as with sailor moon they usually only fight near the episodes end so you get a good consistent flow of life and fighting instead of one piece ect consisting of fighting after fighting after fighting episodes till they finally beat the main opponent and then the series usually ends there or with only one bonus episode showing the characters lives afterwards and if you enjoy a lot of fighting constantly then shows like one piece and dbz ect are for you and probably not sailor moon as fighting to me anyway happens in a consistent familiar way that feels like home. Yeah I’m weird and I love to analyze things especially movies and tv shows, if you’ve read up to this point then thank you and stay safe.

Season 1 CGI is the best there is a lot of time put into these and they don’t feel rushed like og jupiter transformation which was sped up and slow down in later seasons. Plus jupiter symbol appearing on her during the transformation she is god damn Gorgeous to look at and a big fucking sweep before her final pose.

I agree with both of you (or... you. lol). I love both versions of Sailor Moon, but I know there are flaws with the writing that affect my viewing experience of the show, particularly in characterisation and pacing (in both shows, but for different reasons). Needless to say, Sailor Moon remains one of my favourite superheroes in fiction and I love what she represents and who she is. I think so far the writing of the live action drama was the strongest in terms of pace and character development. I didn't like some of the story elements too much (some were pretty cool, like Dark Mercury), but otherwise I thought it was extremely faithful to the original manga while also becoming its own thing. I also thought the costumes for the Senshii and Tuxedo Mask were pretty weak (that mask Tuxedo Mask is wearing looks like a cardboard cutout! haha). HOWEVER, I still got myself engaged with the story. I believe that if you take the aesthetic of the manga and animated shows with the writing of the TV drama, you can really come out with something spectacular (which is why it's been my dream to adapt the series myself in the veins of either Power Rangers or something like Voltron: Legendary Defender). But that's just me x

I don't know if you ever saw a show called "Tin Man." It was a sci-fi remake of "The Wizard of Oz." I thought for a long time that Sailor Moon (which is more fantasy) could be easily adapted to a hard sci-fi story. That has the potential of being a real event.

omg totally! I never really hated Chibi Usa in the original series the way others did in fact in the original series i HATED Uranus and Neptune They were written to be incredibly arrogant and "above" the others and how they treated Usagi rite up to them attacking her after the Pharaoh 90 battle i HATED THEM! I love them in Crystal. but i totally agree that Chibi Usa and Mamo are a vast improvement in Crystal than the original.

yEeTEd pOTato If there’s one thing Crystal did better than the original, it’s the character development. Usagi growing stronger and becoming less whiny and emotionally unstable, Ami overcoming her fear of isolation and becoming a stronger Senshi as a result, Rei growing more confident in her supernatural abilities and gaining a social life, Mako getting over her fear of love through her relationship with Asanuma, Mamoru wanting to become stronger to protect Usagi, Chibi-Usa unlocking her powers and becoming more mature and less self-centered, and even Pluto defying her duties as the Time Guardian due to her desire to fight alongside Sailor Moon. Crystal has some great character development, you just have to pay attention to the show to notice it

That's because in the original anime, all the characters have their personalities established in the first arc and then recycled as the series goes on. And then TOEI uses comedy to try and cover the fact that none of the characters ever really change. Granted most of that comedy is pretty good, but still.

I started the show with the eng sub fan translation and it was way better. They didn't reveal the princess until the end and then resetting time and losing all their memories was a super emotional end to season 1. Nothing else comes close to that version.

Crystal on the other hand has Gorgeous, animations, much better storytelling of the villains, and a way better ending in each one, except for Plutos death, which wasn’t in the og and is still one my favorite scenes ever. However this comes at the cost of poor character development for the inner Guardians and Neptune. Other wise god tier I do wish there were more episode in crystal to give us humor every so often like usagi falling down the stairs. Also the villains who has great personality in og season 3 and 1 were destroy to fast such as inner Guardians crying over the kings knights wasn’t giving any time shine for their love before their deaths.

I grew up with the German dub and still think it's one of the best dubs cause Germans put a lot of effort in it. Same with the amazing soundtrack. If Crystal had the old soundtrack I would maybe like it more but the new instrumentals are so boring. I feel nothing watching Crystal. The 90s anime had you all hyped up during transformations and battles and when there were sad scenes they knew what song to use to make you cry. It's a shame they couldn't include them in Crystal.

Imagine what if Sailor Moon Crystal and Eternal is not just reboot stays true to the manga but a new timeline is like I'm watching the DC Animated Movie Universe new 52 with Justice League: War through Justice League Dark: Apokolips War that is like Sailor Moon is just a reboot it like a new timeline so did something happen to original sailor moon timeline like Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox I love that movie so much it like imaging watching a fourth Sailor Moon movie or something that takes place after Stars that it focus on Sailor Jupiter story starts when Makoto Mother say to her "Makoto when I was I little girl grandma taught me a prayer accept the things I cannot change; Have the courage to change the things I can; and have the wisdom to know the difference." then this happens Jupiter goes back in time some how in order to prevent her parents death because she misses then when she wake up her parents are alive but then everything change creating a alternate timeline were Usagi was never been born Luna and Artemis were never awakened Uranus and Neptune had an affair that trigger a war because Haruka kill Mamoru because Michiru betray her by falling in love with him that both seek vengeance on each other cause a war , Mercury becomes a Cyborg and works for the government, Pluto is use as a lab rat for torture that only has a day live , Mars is not Rei and instead is her Mother Rei die of a illness instead of her mother, Nina is Sailor V but not awakend as a Sailor Venus and she die in a explosion attack and Saturn is use as bomb that will destroy everyone and Jupiter must go back in time and fix this then she encounter someone how has the same powers as Jupiter that prevent her from going back in time and tell Jupiter that you are responsible for this alternate timeline then Mars kill her so that Jupiter can back to her in time and stops her earlier self but again fractures time, creating another alternate new timeline called crystal Mako visits Rei to tell her about everything that occurred. But I do enjoy the Japanese one dubbed 5th season only got through the episodes related to the return of The evil Queen at the end of season 4 Japanese version of the series In other words I always got as far as the Queen that was trapped inside a mirror I only finished up when they defeated her in the 5th season The Queen the ridgell was trapped in a dream mirror That evil Queen I only got as far as then defeated her in the 5th season Because when can the dumbing that's about as far as they handed at the time that's why I only got That far Into the 5th season Z didn't have any more dub that besides at the time

"American kids" -cough-cough-ADULTS-cough- can't handle the less than "puritanical" ways of telling the story so as not to "corrupt" the youth a CRAP rewrite was commissioned. While im largely in the camp of the new Dub is far better on paper the new voices can't act at all. however they r far easier to listen to in Crystal than the 90s series. still not great just easier. Japanese is just better in general.

i grew up on like 3 vcrs of sailor oon from the local library. they didnt even run consecutivly XD i watched those things soooooo many times it might be my most re-watched show ever. ive nnever seen all of the 90's version though and when i tried in highschool i found it was a slog i just couldnt eat through. watching crystal now mostly for the plot. i think season 1 was garbage, just paced far too rapidly that there was 0 time for any characterisation. season 2 is going so much better. im definitly a stickler for the older 90's animation, the new stuff is too sharp and anorexic feeling, think its the leg length. the animation, particularly the cg just sucks ass. original transformations were way better.

Because the old show was a terrible adaptation of the source material. Crystal adapts the manga's story line much more thoroughly.

When a property crosses medium, sometime a strict adherence to the source material isn't a good idea. The manga was "written by a girl, for girls" according to Takeuchi. I found it a turn off. The anime was more accessible to a male audience, which is why I'm a fan.
