It's more like a retcon to the movie. There's plenty of retcons in the show. For example, in the movie, Phil mentions that Odysseus failed as a hero(along with Perseus and Theseus), but in the animated series, Odysseus is rich, successful, married to the love of his life(forgot her name), has a son and well known. I actually picked up this series well after it had aired since we didn't get the channel or were always committed to other shows that were on at the same time. I loved it quick, though. The major draws for me were the interesting characters and the interesting approaches to Hercules exploring his self-identity. The episode with Tempest and her trial really stands out to me for both reasons. She is implied to be a very violent character in every episode she appears in which is a great contrast to Hercules. In the episode mentioned above, she and Hercules are at odds with each other because their ideas about gender roles are opposite. They have to work through their cultural differences and personal concepts of gender roles in order to survive Tempest's trial. And if you want to look at the relationship aspect of Disney series', you can even place this series in a timeline with most of the other movie spin-off series to see the different stages. The Little Mermaid (teenager/parent), Hercules (dating), The Emperor's New School (specific crush), Tangled (almost engaged), Aladdin (engaged), Tarzan (married) Lilo & Stitch would be between The Emperor's New School and Tangled, but I didn't include it because Nani and David aren't really the main characters. Timon & Pumbaa is more of a buddy show, so they don't really fit in this line-up. I haven't seen the Big Hero 6 series yet. Did I leave any out? I don't think I did...

There's also an episode where Herc falls in love with one of the gospel-singing muses. This blew my little mind! Until that point, I was convinced those girls were just a narrative trope commenting on the story as it happened, like, well, a typical "Greek chorus." Now all of a sudden, one of them almost gets way too involved with the very person they're singing about?! That could've been one of the most messed-up relationships in all of Disney lore, if more people had cared about this show, that is.

Loved both of these shows so much. I liked how that team-up episode made it sure that both-Aladdin and Hercules live during the same time period. Herc just met one young lonely gorgon-girl.
@SuperSongbird215 жыл бұрын
Given that, in the original myth, Medusa was originally human but then cursed into the form of a Gorgon, I have this tragic headcanon that Medusa wasn't fully accepted by the Gorgon race (if indeed she wanted to be) and this made her even lonelier.

Hera asks Hercules to help her keep an eye on her husband (Zeus) on the grounds that he's been spending lots of time with other women (including Herc's adoptive mother Alchmene) and worries that Zeus might be cheating on her. From there Hercules and Hera are looking into it, and each time Hera thinks she caught Zeus in the act she tries to attack him only to accidentally injure Hercules instead. At the end Zeus reveals that the ladies he was seeing were helping him through some surprise party for Hera or something like that. And maybe after the party Zeus pulls one of them aside and asks to be alone with her for a bit to make you wonder if he really is cheating on Hera or not.

The answer is "Yes" - and the episode proves that in the Hercules movie, the Nemian Lion actually WAS Scar... Scar got killed in Lion King - soul sent to the Underworld - Hades overhears Scar's boasting about how he managed to kill Mufasa and overturn his Kingdom, so decides he'd be a perfect candidate to throw at Herc. He brings Scar back from the dead and juices him up with some Underworld Magic, transforming him into the Nemian Lion...One Field-Goal Kick later, Scar's dead again, magic wears off, and BOOM...Scar is a pelt...

Headcanon: Phil lied/exggerated about Odysseus, Perseus, Theseus and Achilles being dead, we could interpet it as them being "dead" to him after they failed to live up to his expectations. Heroes were basically Celebrities in Greek Myth, so they probably got really popular and gave up following Phil's teachings. Edit: Oh hey I called it. Though the biggest inconsistency during Herc's training, Hades thought he was dead (and it's not until Act 3 when Herc and Hades actually meet face to face for the first time). So why would he be surprised when in the cartoon they crossed paths multiple times?

The counterpoint to the "dead" heroes, Icarus is supposed to be dead yet he's alive. Phil never flat out said they were dead just none of them could go the distance. Achilles "goes the distance" by making the deal with Hades and takes Phil with him and served to give Phil (My opinion here) that line in the training montage that it takes a work of heart. Phil knew how to make him go the distance but time and money makes people forget those lessons so hence Phil's regression when Herc is a big shot. As for why Aladdin crossover is memorable is that it's a nod to the fact that Aladdin's series went into Greece to meet with Amazons a few times, and the dynamic couple flew by Greece in a Whole New World. Plus the original story for Aladdin came from China and other parts of Asia so while the animators worked on Mulan, that scene was also to show the story's original setting. Not to mention crossovers are what get people interested in shows they normally wouldn't watch without the other. Now, something I want people to consider and see if they disagree with this. The Aladdin show took five years minimum in that canon to progressing based on the Cheese Obsessed Country dude's relationship from single, engaged, married, and then having a child at least 2-3 years old. I bring this up because with that canon in mind, Hercules' takes place within a 2-year time span but everyone keeps debating about the timeframe for Aladdin and the Islamic connection. With the crossover happening, you go by the one with the established dates which as it turns out, Hercules met THE Alexander the Great as a child which then predates the entire Muslim religion and Christianity by centuries. While there were religions that used Arabic writing and Allah as the one god in that language, it kinda was a way for Disney to retcon that the Aladdin characters are of the Muslim religion. That's why ladies and gents, you don't add real historical figures in fantasy shows. ;p

This was one of my favorite shows. Of course the Pygmalion episode was a favorite of mine. I loved the Gods and Godesses. My favorite characters were Hermes and Icarus.

would you by any chance be referring to the one where Hercules is desperate to find a date for the Aphrodisia Dance

I actually watched more of the Aladdin and Hercules animated series than I ever did the films. I was about 3-7 years old when they were airing on Toon Disney so I didn't notice the major continuity errors.

Hades definitely is not everyone's destination, as we know from Gargoyles that Anubis exists. Darby O'Gill has that coach thingy too. Personally, I think Allah didn't feel like dealing with Jafar and outsourced him to Hades.

It might be past your time but I'd like to request a video talking about the Disney series the legend of Tarzan I think it's one of disneys underrated films, and I know the rights stuff with the author but it was a big part of my childhood and I think it'd be worth a video

Could you talk about Mighty Ducks series, like all of these shows I was two young to watch them when they first came out.... but I loved watching the reruns. Our of any of the shows I've gone bacj to Might Ducks and Gargoyles more often then not as they had thesuperhero vibe I loved... and I loved the lore in them too.

Gargoyles and the mighty ducks were great!! Theme songs alone deserve a video.

I just remember owning the direct to video movie “zero to hero”. I always thought it was just the pilot for the show
@wrath25015 жыл бұрын
It wasn't the hero team up that made that episode memorable. It was the villain team up.

when scar showed up in Hercules people who saw it where like oh that's cute then Arabian nights went and kicked off every theory that the Disney films share one universe and apparently go to a club run by mickey mouse

Just finished the video and now I’m thinking of all those Disney movies turned into cartoons, for example... Anyone remember the Little Mermaid Cartoon, I mostly just remember something involving Dinosaurs

I loved and adored this series. I desperately want them to release the series. But there were so many celebrities in it it would probably cost too much in royalties. At least that's what I've always suspected. Icarus was my FAVORITE!!

You should make a video about the animated series of the little mermaid, emperor’s new groove and lilo and stitch!

I really love the joke in one episode when Hercules have to best Ares two sons in a silly question trivia game. One question was about "Who put Prometheus on a rock where a eagle keept eating his intestents for eternity" And Herc answears proudly - Ha easy, my dad!

Crap...that's why Cloud was in Herc's world, He was trying to find Zack! He said he was looking for someone but at the end you see him with Aerith. Then KH2 rolls around and he's not looking anymore but he's pissed at Sephiroth!

@@yoga_bear. My guess is dlc if they feel like finishing it. And I'll bet it be not too long before the FF7 remake. After all the last time cloud and sephiroth fought in KH2, it was conviently month before Advent Children came to dvd.

Cool of you to do an episode on Herc! This show was a big relief on my life back in junior high when I was going through the worst part of my life!

Fair enough, Cassandra is a character who definitely deserved more screen time.... but there is still a place in some of our hearts for the legendary abomination that is Icarus. Believe it or not, at 18 years old in the year 2015, he was still the character I related to most in life XD

I remember how Toon Disney use to air the Hercules, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid series for almost the entire time I was able to watch the network. I always wanted to see shows like Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, Ducktales or Darkwing Duck, although they eventually grew on me before they added the Jetix program block (with great series like Digimon) and I got more interested in watching G4/Tech TV instead
@fourcatsandagarden5 жыл бұрын
so......Arabian Nights, if there is a timeline to be addressed, seems to take place after Aladdin and the King of Theives, which took place after the entire TV series, which took place after Jafar died. That means Jafar took an AWFULLY long time to reach Hades.

I think i remembered the crossover episode more because Aladdin and Hercules were my fav Disney movies as a kid so having them team up was epic.
