As an art teacher for our homeschool co-op, I would NEVER recommend that crap-ola air dry clay. No matter what you do, it never turns out even remotely nice...even for the 5-6 crowd. I always get the plain white Fimo and bake it in the oven. Then have the kids use some decent acrylic paint to paint with. Always follow that with some type of sealant. There's nothing worse than having a kid cry because their creation failed due to crappy products.

"This is not for beginners" I've dabbled in some origami and Jackie I hate to tell you, but that is just a couple extra steps added onto one of the most basic beginner folds. the part before you cut the paper is actually usually the base for some simple flowers and cranes! It's totally okay if you didn't like it / get it though! Even easier origami things can get confusing if you don't have someone there walking you through it.

Batteries are not included due to their can explode during transit (as their not handled well shook amd tossed about) This is why some shops have batteries next to the toys to buy just incase no one as batteries at home. The origami is a fairly good beginner design. Hopefully if someone gets this kit they would have shown interest in the art form. Its totally ok if you dont enjoy it. Sometimes it requires calm patience. I think that kit would be skeptical cash at least. The paper used is not regular origami paper.

It's starting to feel like all Jackie wants to do is say in the trash because that's what people like to hear, I mean of course origami isn't going to be easy for someone who (A) does not like it, so give up on trying to do it very quickly And (B) doesn't practice it constantly, origami is difficult and even for people who know how to do it if you stop practicing and then try to start doing it again it will feel hard

As someone who doesn’t do origami (I’ve folded little stars before but that’s it really) it frustrated me that she was complaining about the tutorial being sped up; like you look at the step, you pause the video, you do said step and you press play and watch step 2. That was really not a fair criticism I think.

I don’t feel like all kits need to be beginner friendly. If you’re buying it for yourself or are buying a kit for another person and you know the intended person has some experience, why get them something that’s below their experience? Also you must have really high quality dollar stores because everything you always say you can just get at a dollar store there’s no way I could walk into a local one here and be able to find everything for a particular kit

When its marketed for kids, it's expected to be easy for beginners unless it explicitly says so on the box imo. The story of the "characters" and the drawing of the girl on the box proves it as much. It would be a different story if it was an advanced origami kit yk?
@obiwanshenobi9309
@obiwanshenobi9309 3 жыл бұрын
@@excess_alex.mp4 it's not considered advanced in the origami world I suppose. Depending on who the company hired to design the kit, the definition of "advanced" might be very different from Jackie's. "Advanced" would be like folding from complex crease patterns or learning how to design a figure. I don't think labeling the kit as "beginner friendly" is necessarily true but it is also in the realm of "possible" for a child to complete it easily so the marketing isn't really misleading

Ummmm Jackie......... You do realise that on lip balm containers, the spiral stick in the middle, doesn't actually go up, it spins around and pushes the lip balm up but it itself typically stays in place other than it spinning.

@calibear4867

It doesn’t actually ride up the spiral stick in the middle alone. There is a part inside at the bottom. So when you twist, the part inside rides up the spiral stick pushing out the product. So before you put any product in the chapstick tube, You are able to twist and see if it’s working correctly. Think like a screw with a nut 🔩 (but in a tube). Chapstick isn’t solid enough to ride up the spiral without something pushing from the bottom.

Just looked at the video on the website; Jackie, sweetie, don't get too irritated with the origami. The hand model in the clip was shaking so bad probably because the paper is thin and one little mess up ruins the whole thing. If the person who is being recorded is stressed/shaky about getting it right, then beginners will find it difficult. Also, glad to see new uploads!

Like when she was folding the flaps up she was super careless with it and it looked messy and things werent folded flat or in the exact way they were supposed to be. She also cut the hole way too big for those lights too. It's just a few simple things she messed up and that's okay. Like many people have said, origami isnt for everyone.

Fun Fact: The form of oragami we know, the no cuts, one square of paper, etc.; is actually German in origin. Japan adopted it in the 1860s after their borders were opened to outsiders and they imported Froebel's Kindergarten system. Before then Japanese paper art involved cuts and multiple pieces of paper. "Origami" is a direct translation of the German "Papierfalten"

I just followed the nebulous stars kit instructional video and made the lamp, which was a bit long but not at all hard. Yes it did include two cuts to the paper, however the step Jackie did after the cut was completely incorrect. So it is normal that it did not turn out OK. But the little lamps are actually nice, I will make more for my fairy lights and make a nice little night light. The project itself is quite good.

Yeh their products alone ( pens, crayons, pencils, paints) are all pretty good quality, but then their craft kits just seem poor, tho actually a lot of craft kits are fairly poor as Jackie shows, and if a kid tries it and fails they are going to think it’s their fault and be completely discouraged, which is sad. Also I hate when you get a craft kit and it has those tiny pots of paint that are normally the worst quality 🧂 😑 🙈 Please Jackie find some good craft kits so I can get them as gifts for my nieces and nephews (and myself) lol

Peignez : second person-plural-present simple or present imperative- Verb : Peindre. "You paint" = "Vous peignez" or "tu peins" | "paint " = "Peignez" or "Peins" | To paint = "peindre". When it's an order or a step-by-step explanation we always use the scd person of plural of the present simple If it's in a non-familiar setting. So no the translation is very good.

She's done this same company's lipbalm kit a bajillion times & I have also tried 2 myself w/my kid - the wax needs to stay at boiling temperature far too long for a simple bowl of water. After trying to replace the water every few minutes, I even tried pouring boiling water into my insulated coffee mug, as well as attempting to microwave the concoction; nothing worked except holding it in simmering water/using a double boiler. And after FINALLY figuring out how to get it all mixed & scented - *NOT FLAVOURED*, just scented! - the twirly thing to use the product stopped working after the 2nd use. These lip balm kits from Horizon Group are just poop.

I wouldn't say that Toys R Us "didn't make it" in the US. It was founded in 1948, so it had a long, successful run here. We don't have it anymore, but I consider it more of a retirement than a failure. It was around for 70 years in the United States, that's pretty impressive. Very few companies make it that long. It's just semantics, I know, but saying it "didn't make it" makes it sound like it was a total flop. I'm sad that it's gone. It was my favorite place in the world when I was a kid, next to maybe Disney World.
