FAQ
What kind of Resin do you use?
Envirotex Lite (see box in the video)
-Where did you get it from?
Michael's craft store, but you can also find it at hardware stores under the name EPOXY resin. But you MUST buy the hardener too
How do you mix it?
It depends on the brand you use. Mine uses equal parts of two liquids
Is it expensive?
A huge bottle costs me 40$ and can make at least 300 resin pieces like this one.
Can I find cheap resin anywhere?
I don't think so, but if you do find some, let me know =D
My resin is still sticky, why?
Be sure you waited at least 20-24 hours for it to cure. Otherwise it's possible you (1) didn't mix it well, so you have to make a new one or (2) didn't mix the right proportions of hardener and resin. In both cases, you'd need to try again
-Is resin toxic?
Yes! Keep it away from pets and children. Be sure to wear gloves when working with it. I have a huge tolerance for chemicals, so don't do as I do lol
What can I use to color resin?
Almost anything, experiment and have fun!
Is it hard?
It's a bit scary at first, but then you will improve VERY quickly. I failed on my first 4-5 batches, then I got better =D
What kind of paint did you use?
Acrylic paint
Can it break?
It's EXTREMELY durable.
Where did you buy the bail/lobster clasp/ "made with love" charm/chain?
Ebay has a great selection of these items. Beware of overpaying, so shop around ^_^
-What kind of sticker did you use?
I used a PLASTIC sticker, if your sticker is made with a kind of paper, you will need to seal it, watch a sealing sticker tutorial here: • ❤ How I Seal My Sticke...

Thank you for all of the tips. The one at 1:58 helps me a lot. I just tried to make a resin coaster containing broken up pieces of CD’s and DVD’s. And I had BIG bubbles under each piece. It was my first try. Thank you for your informative vids. My next creation will be better! 😁😁😁

I hate it when crafters say don't mix paint with resin. I've found it to be extremely convenient and it's MUCH cheaper than the resin powder that most crafters recommend. I've experimented with a lot of different things in resin. I've also tried watercolor paint but it tends to make it your resin project smell a little funny.

Sammy Chan I like to experiment too! And paint definitely works!
@AmyMade
@AmyMade 9 жыл бұрын
Sammy Chan it's more like we don't recommend paint because we can't guarantee a proper cure. I know many crafters who use it and are fine with it. It just depends on the ratio of the paint and resin you use. We don't want to be liable for the sticky resin pieces, that's all. That's why I tell my subbies I don't recommend it.
@MishalxIrfan
@MishalxIrfan 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, right!? I was also told not to use liquid food coloring because it wouldn't cure properly. I've used up to like 20 drops in a small batch of resin and it cures perfectly!

Can we use any kind of paint?
@SammyChanDeathShiva
@SammyChanDeathShiva 4 жыл бұрын
merriam aquisio I find that acrylic paints work the best but only a drop of 2. Too much paint in the mix will throw off the ratio & it will not harden right. Watercolor tends to throw off the ratio mix a bit too much but as long as you don't put too much in, it should still harden although i recommend testing it with something small first. I highly recommend alcohol/tattooing inks though as they really work the best.

Jackie, can you shed some light for us please? At our local Home Hardware, I found an Envirotex Lite product called "High Gloss Pour On Alkyd Finish" -- it looks and seems like it's going to act exactly like the Envirotex Lite kit you're holding in the video. Have you ever tested and tried using something called "alkyd finish," in place of an epoxy resin craft item? I've ordered some, want to try it, and am unsure what it'll do. Curious if you've ever tried it, thank you!!

Hello Jackie! :D I am planning to make pendants using resin, but I am a little doubt about it. So my questions: 1. Can I use plastic molds to that. Or it has to be silicone mold? I have a hard time to find silicone mold in my country. 2. I heard a issue that resin will turn yellow after a few days or weeks. So how is the best method to prevent it? That's all I wanted to ask. If you did reply, thanks a lot :D

But when I decided to make resin pieces again, after 24 hours, it cured but it was flexible :( have you experienced that? If so, how did you fix it? I domed mine earlier and I hope this time the resin cures completely and hard.

Ahh Jackie this is so adorable! Thanks you for this video this is so easy and I'm also quite a beginner as well😂 so thanks for this I see that you use a measuring cup for measuring your resin how do you clean it and does you resin create a smell when you pop the bubbles with a lighter?
@nerdecrafter
@nerdecrafter 9 жыл бұрын
mysweet cornercrafts I clean it by letting the resin harden in there. It's PP plastic, so the resin peels off easily once it's cured :) And there's no smell, but you shouldn't linger too long with the fire bc it will harden the resin XD

I absolutely love ur videos! Thx so much! I just got resin and cants wait to try it out. The first time I did resin I put glitter on the back right after I put the cabochons in. The glitter sinked in front of the cabochons. How long should I wait for the resin to put the glitter on? And on some other pieces the back are still sticky and won't dry. What did I do wrong? Plz help.
@nerdecrafter
@nerdecrafter 9 жыл бұрын
Carol Stertzer Wait at least 1-2 hours. It has to be gooey before putting the glitter (check in the video) :) and if it's still sticky, it means you didn't stir it properly or you didn't mix the right proportions of resin and hardener. In both cases, you need to start over ^^

You can definitely use paint, but avoid the very liquidy kind. Thick paint will definitely cure (with my brand, not sure about others). Just give it at least 20ish hours, which is about 10 hours more than usual. I will make a video in January with more in depth explanations :D

Most of her glitter looks like Martha Stewart brand glitter which can be found on Amazon. That's where I get mine. "Wow" glitter is also a descent glitter that is usually a little cheaper than Martha Stewart.

"Wow" glitter is $5 for a pack of 8. It is nice and thin and perfect for resin;).

Hi. Love your videos. I have never worked with resin but am interested in making resin handles for my crochet hooks. Would that be something that could be done?

I can NEVER find molds this big on Ebay or Amazon. Mine are so disappointingly small. Do you make your own molds?

Can you do a video of embedding 3d items in resin such as cabochons or buttons or charms or plastic figures? I have a 3d hello kitty that I wanted to make into a phone charm but the plastic is to hard to use an eye screw. So I decided to try to put it in resin but the head is heavier then the body so it just tilts forward no matter what. Please help (: thank you
