As a retailer, I always place the stickers on the plastic area as opposed to the cardboard packaging because it's easier to peel off from plastic than cardboard. Putting stickers on cardboard is a sin.

The best is lighter fluid (Zippo brand does well). It leaves no residue or smell. Use it with a Q Tip (cotton bud); work slowly in layers; be patient. Lighter fluid actually dissolves the adhesive without damaging the ink below.

It's a real debate as to whether the price tags stay on or off sealed products. I know some grading companies won't discount for a [intact] price sticker, so long as it doesn't cover an important part of the packaging design. Personally, I've learned to love it since it adds to the "story" of a piece, especially when it's a vintage tag and/or belongs to a store that closed down (i.e. Woolworth's). On the other hand, half-ripped price stickers are ugly as sin. They're easy to get off when they're new, but after years they harden and become a chore to get off.

💯 facts. Lighter fluid is miracle worker at removing labels. I also found a lotion based hand sanitizer, just a little dab (or a lot) cleans dvd/blu/Sega genesis plastic clamshells perfectly. Plus the sanitizing aspect gives me a lot of comfort, you know buying used, gross plastic things

Lighter fluid is my go to. Did a video on it, if you want to watch it. Also, if the label is old, or has old residue, that has gone dry and hard, you can soften it up with Windex then you will be able to use lighter fluid as well.
@asmenoth12 жыл бұрын
The hair dryer only works on certain types of labels. I used to work at a local hobby shop and we used them, the label maker uses heat to blacken the label. We found that the easiest method of removing these was a hair dryer, well we used a heart gun on low but I’ve used a hair dryer at home. As the label turns completely black from the heat it almost falls right off leaving no residue. But i haven’t seen these types of labels outside our shop, don’t know if anyone rose uses them.

Depending on the condition of the sticker, I don't remove it if it's a vintage buy. It gives the packaging a little character and shows that specific item's history. "Oh, cool! This one was sold at a Kmart/Toys R Us!" New stuff? Absolutely goes.

I use a heat gun on low setting. Hold ONLY ON THE STICKER and not on anywhere else on the package. Goo gone is my go to. Justva very small amount on a rag. Then I wipe again with a dry rag to remove the oil that removed the goo. It works and smells good.

I use small amounts of Goo Gone to remove the stickers. But because it's highly flammable you must remove any residue of it. For this I use Windex. Squirt some on a clean paper towel and gently wipe down the area. Remember that the image on the card can lose it's color and image from overuse of cleaning fluids. So be careful. Some price stickers have a vintage look and establish a provenance (where it came from). For instance I have a RENWAL Visible Head model (complete) from the 60's that originally sold for $2.49 and has the original sticker with the name of the store on it. I preserved that item with the sticker. Likewise I have the figure of The Corpse Bride MOC with the $14.99 sticker still on it. That currently sells for "crazy money" on ebay. That sticker will also stay, because it reminds me what I originally paid for it.

LPT, use a plastic razor blade (look them up) they are perfect for uses like this. A traditional blade runs the risk of cutting the card, as we saw, just be careful not creating grooves from too pressure on the edges. I’m not saying to use them alone. Use them with your preferred product.. WD40, Goo Gone, rubbing alcohol, wild turkey.. 😉

This goo gone crap just ruined my mario kart 64 and mischief makers box!!! Yeah great stuff! Why is no one saying that this stuff will create a grease spot. White areas now have a yellow stain and yellow areas are Orange!!!! Seriously why is everyone recommending this crap!!! Never going to use this s#@t ever again!!!!!
@Daniel-415-Ponce3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe Goo Gone does have some citrus oils in its formulation, so it must be used sparingly, and as soon as you have removed the sticker residue you should gently wipe down the area with a paper towel or tissue that has been lightly dampened with water. Then, absorb any excess moisture by blotting the area with a dry paper towel/tissue and allow it to air dry or use a hair dryer on the low heat setting. I would not use the Goo Gone on any paper/cardboard material unless there was a wax or plastic protective surface layer such as what is often found on the packaging of many action figure toys. My experience with Goo Gone has generally been good, though, and even in those instances where it has initially appeared to leave behind a mild stain, the stain has more often than not completely disappeared once the cleaned item has had time to dry fully.
