After playing this game for months and thinking it was impossible, yesterday I finally beat this game for the first time!

The first CV for NES had an even harder learning curve. CV2 was only difficult because of how deliberately unhelpful and deceptive most of the hints are. Or ill-placed and redundant. And the endings, subjective as they are, are still lazy and crappy.
@joeyk1072 жыл бұрын
@@GTA2SWcity castlevania 1 is pretty hard, but it's nowhere near as hard as castlevania 3 though. But the games are similar enough in terms of gameplay and style that if you are good at one of them, you are probably pretty good at the other one, too. I agree with you about castlevania 2. The first time I beat it I had to keep looking at guides because the map was so confusing.
@GTA2SWcity2 жыл бұрын
@@joeyk107 Hm. I guess I disagree because I beat CV3 first. I always found the older one to be a little less refined, but that's the funny thing about older games on a learning curve: once you got it down, it becomes super easy.

Frankly, even though the original version is clearly much richer, we have to admire the incredible effort that was made to transcribe it from the VRC6 to the basic 2A03. The vibrato for some notes especially gives a new soul to the downgraded soundtrack, and it shows that the people doing this were clearly good at adapting themselves.
@TheFoodieCutie4 жыл бұрын
What "original version" are you talking about? What's the name of the game and on what medium?
@blara24014 жыл бұрын
@@TheFoodieCutie I'm talking about the original Famicom version, Akumajou Densetsu. The Japanese Famicom had support for extra pins used by enhancement chips called MMCs to produce richer sound. This was the case of Konami's VRC6, which was used in the Akumajou Densetsu cartridge, adding two pulse channels and one sawtooth channel to the five existing channels of the NES's processor, the 2A03. Meanwhile, in the West, Nintendo forbade the use of third party MMCs and replaced them with their own (Castlevania III used a Nintendo MMC3 on NES). As well, the NES didn't support extra sound due to how it was wired up. So even when games used the MMC5, also capable of better audio, they couldn't benefit from it. I highly encourage you to check out the Akumajou Densetsu soundtrack.

I’ve heard it two different ways. This one sounds more clean. There’s another one I’ve heard online where the bass is more crunchy, and the high melodic line is more harpsichord like with a more noticeable delay. I honestly think it sounds better that way although it doesn’t have the richness of tone and stereo effect used in this file. It really is a great tune. I have to steal it and use it on something.

I know the Famicom version is technically superior, in the sense that the technical capabilities and expression were broader and more fully utilized. I still prefer this version. With fewer voices, each voice gets to be heard more clearly and forcefully. With less extra sound, the melodies get more of my brain's time to contemplate them. Evergreen is performed well on the Famicom; on the NES, it brings tears to my eyes. That is all. A pleasant April 19 to anyone passing by.
@icarusmarioFAN3 жыл бұрын
As much as I like the Famicom version more, I've always liked the triangle wave in this version far more than the sawtooth wave from the Famicom version. That and Rising is definitely cooler in this version.
@lewstherintelamon1377 Жыл бұрын
Right there with you. They worked harder on getting a good tone quality our of the voices on the NA version, and there is a better variety of timbre--and a cleaner sound overall. The harmonic spectrum is broader too The JP version sounds tinny, and there's too much treble in it.

WITH SYPHA: Sypha, the vampire hunter, has had a bad life but since she met Trevor she is beginning to feel more comfortable with herself. If 8 bit songs are outdated then drums, guitars, and brass instruments have over stayed their welcome.
Even though the music for the Japanese version is superior, the North American version is the version that I remember best. I was probably around 8 years old at the time and my mother bought the game for me at Montgomery Wards for $19.99 for my birthday. When I played it, I found the music too scary for me and also because of the dark themes and hard difficulty of the game, I was probably too young for this game. As a result, my mother returned the game back to the store for a refund. Years later, I'm all grown up and I'm no longer scared of the game's dark themes but it's still one of the toughest games to beat.
