My parents can enjoy it too since the controls will be familiar to them.
@avid59858 жыл бұрын
You can still do all the same things with emulation. Emulation isn't limited to just PC It's used on a variety of machines. Such as a phone, a Wii, a Nvidia TV, tablet, etc.. the list goes on. As for controllers you can find the same nostalgia as finding the same controller you want to except it being Bluetooth meaning no cords, so your parents would still enjoy. Also, every game would be in HD if you wanted and had the right emulator and also every game is freely downloadable, and not illegally.

"Lovingly captures the look of 90's style Icons". All the games came out in the 80's... By the way, the reason the controller cords are so short is because it's a throwback to the oldschool systems, the cords for the Atari were short for instance, and the cords for the Famicom were permanently attached (and short). The reason is because you weren't supposed to set it on your t.v., you were supposed to set it on your coffee table (which most people don't have anymore). So probably a bad idea... but definitely Old-School
@Harie08 жыл бұрын
If you didn't call them out on it I was going to. Though, in their defense, MOST of the games are from the 80's. Kirby's Dream Land was '93. Punch out is a bit grey as the version here was 1990, but the Mike Tyson version was in the 80's. And while atari's and even the Famicom's cords were short, this is not those systems. Also these developers should have learned from those systems and not to do that. It's a design flaw that we don't need. The only thing I'm not too keen on is how it seems that the manuals aren't loaded onto the system. You have to use a QR code to look them up.
@skycladangel16748 жыл бұрын
I think IGN missed the point of short wired controllers. Its to recreate the authentic feel of playing the NES in the 80s and 90s. We take wireless controllers for granted now but sitting close to the TV was how it was done then.
@ScottAndNumbers8 жыл бұрын
I was actually thinking this very thing as back in the '70s and '80s, you were supposed to move the console to you. They had short controller wires and long as hell TV wires. And into the 90's and beyond, that started flipping to what we have now with consoles sitting right at the TV and controllers having either no wires or long as hell ones. But I took out my old NES controller to see and that ORIGINAL NES controller from the '80s has a wire roughly twice that length (didn't get 100% measurement as I don't have arms that long). But that is still no excuse for the "low" score.

"The cable's too short" It seems this generation has forgotten how you save progress on an original NES. Which Nintendo did it on purpose to prevent the urge of getting up from your couch. Just bend forward. See, a game like the Legend of Zelda, always required that you hold the SELECT button then the Power button once you've saved the progress. So even Nintendo wants to emulate that. Plus, another button to access the menu or save states is unfashionable for the NES controller.

The short cables and having to press the buttons on the console are things you had to deal with the actual original NES. And are in my opinion just as important of an experience with the console as the games. And that to me is a part of the experience of classic consoles. I remember as a kid having my NES in the middle of the floor because I wanted to be 8 feet away from the television. All you do is pray that your parents don't step on it and that your dog doesn't pull out the cord running through the room. Heck I still have my original NES I haven't played in a while but it's still a very important part of gaming history. So this day just needs to get over his first world problem and deal with the corded the controller.
@TheWolfgabe8 жыл бұрын
Honestly his criticisms feel more like glorified nitpicking. HDMI cables are not that expensive and people seem to forget that back in the day early game consoles were designed to sit close to you. Also I don't understand why people are complaining you can't add more games. This is mainly a novelty product meant for those who want a cheap affordable way to experience the NES. Also in order to actually download games that would require additional hardware and memory that would more than likely jack up the price. Not everyone want to go to the trouble of wrestling with ROMs and emulators and many emulators tend to be pretty terrible in terms of quality.

For those wondering why it doesn't come with control gun and shooting games like Duck Hunt or Wild Gunman. The reason is because if you shot at a target, nothing would happen. a classic console with wireless controller? wtf
@josetakapele8 жыл бұрын
iMaldy you can say the same about HDMI capability. Sure a wireless controller would make it bit more expensive to produce but I'm sure many would prefer a wireless controller over a short-wired one. As far as a classic console, it's more or an homage to the NES days. If it played carriages and had the same controller slot, maybe but it's an inconvenience to many, specially if you have to get up to hit the reset button or sit 3 ft from the console. That issue could have been solved and make this perfect for the person seeking to play the classics again.
@iYuseffitou8 жыл бұрын
Jose Torres the issue could've been adressed by having a longer cable, and sure the HDMI is a thing but I wouldnt mind rca cables either.
@josetakapele8 жыл бұрын
iMaldy neither did I. It's just inconvenient. That's it.

Anyone who thinks input lag would have been acceptable has clearly never beaten half of these games. Input lag is not ok for this to have, and I'm glad it doesn't. I have a 15' HDMI cord so there is no downside that I can see.

The 8 bitdo wireless controller solves both problems------- it's wireless, so you can sit any distance up to I'm guessing 30 ft. from your TV. Also you can reset the game (return to the main menu) by means of a small button on the controller.

I'm finally getting one of these tomorrow!! I walked into a GameStop without any money (didn't deposit one of my checks) and the manager was SUPER COOL, saving one for me for tomorrow! I just want to play these games again with an NES controller. I forget how that felt.. I don't hate GameStop. I don't get why people rag on them so much. They sell used games pretty cheap, that haven't come out in the past year.

It's a really great idea, and seems that in many ways was done very well here, but man... I can't bring myself to buy one of these until a version exists that'll be able to download more games, or give more options. I just hope this is the beginning of even better similar offers in the future -- mini classic NES, SNES and GB/GBC/GBA's with most of those respective consoles' entire libraries available with equally great emulation and possibly even a few features to compete with PC emulation like myriad options and maybe even stuff like netplay? Then I'll throw my money all over 'em.

Raspberry pi + retropie + ps 3 wireless controller = problem solved. Plus add all the roms you want and emulate pretty much all the retro consoles.
@Mogura878 жыл бұрын
Doesn't address the most important questions: how well are the games emulated, and how much input lag and controller latency is added in that setup? Input lag in emulation coming on top of your TV's input lag can spell disaster for playability of demandning games. That's why original hardware+everdrive+SD CRT is the real way to go for enjoying the whole library without collecting all the expensive games. If you must use an LCD; AVS Nes+everdrive instead.
@EnricoZulu8 жыл бұрын
Mogura87 I also have the everdrive and there is no noticeable difference with the games I played so far.
@Mogura878 жыл бұрын
I've read on many forums about retropie emulation adding lag. From 50ms to 200ms, which is detrimental to many games. Here's an example showing added lag on an LCD: watch?v=N6UTnFuaqxg Now compare that to original hardware on a standard definition CRT and the difference must be even greater. On the other hand, some seem to have been able to tweak it with frame delay etc., but real hardware on a CRT will always be the real deal.

They have lost my purchase bcause of the short wire. I can't be pulling this thing out into the middlemof the room everytime I wanna play. Especially with children in the house. And even with extenders...You still need to pull it out so you can reset it. Poorly design, and cheap...classic Nintendo. It is a shame because the emulation looks great.

I think that it would be a good idea would have been to have an eshop kind of market where you could buy new games for the system like ice hockey. Maybe they could also come in packs of about five games that you could download for about 2 dollars that would have an overall theme for the games like sports or adventure. Just kinda an idea I guess
