BLAKE WALKER no third party support, an unpractical controller with a screen that gives it bad battery life and a sh*t range, it was underpowered, it only sold almost 14 million units, it could only output a max of 720p while PS4, Xbox one, and even the Switch output 1080p, it had some of the worst games in their respected series (Paper Mario: Color Splash, Star Fox Zero, Mario Party 10 to name a few) and the basic set for $300 had only 8gb while the Switch has 4 times the storage for the same price. Also, the Wii U’s launch title was Nintendo Land, while the Switch’s launch title (the big one at least) is a masterpiece. I know BoTW came out on the Wii U, but it wasn’t a launch title that boosted sales. Also, the Switch version is better, as the case with many Wii U ports and sequels.

I feel like the review doesn't do the Switch justice. While it has its flaws, it is remarkable on how much it can do. The review is effective in explaining so, but focuses on the fact that it can't compete with the PS4 and Xbox One. Nintendo has never been in the market to compete with them, since it would be a fail from Day 1, and as a result, has aimed to make a fun, 'family' style experience, rather than a competitive, upbeat one. I really don't believe that you can compare the Switch to other consoles, or even to other tablets, PCs, or handhelds for that matter, because it is something entirely intermixed with all of the above. If you have the money, I would suggest getting one. It has its flaws, don't get me wrong - most of which I haven't experienced as of yet on my personal console (i.e. JoyCon desync, frame-rate issues, screen glitches, etc.), but they're minimal when compared to how fun the overall console is. Again, it has its flaws, as ANY console does. It isn't a huge deal. The console is creative and I've had a blast playing games on it. I see a lot of potential in it, as do many others, and I would suggest it to anyone. It has a limited number of games in its launch-library, which is a shame, but there'll be more in the future, without a doubt. The battery life is minimal, but you can still work around it with ease and playability, so I haven't found it to be too huge of an issue. Again, if you have the money, I would look into saving it til the future or getting one now. I think it is an amazing console within its own right, and is distinctively different than what you would expect off of IGN's review. It can't really be compared to the other consoles because its main focus is completely opposite than what other systems try to accomplish. Oh and since this is the internet and people are jackasses, I am not THAT much of a Nintendo fan. I rarely played my Wii U or Wii for that matter, and was a huge critic of both, as such. I haven't had this much fun with a Nintendo console since the Gamecube, which can show that Nintendo is doing something right this time. I have a gaming PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and the Switch is completely unique from the other ones. I have trouble putting it down when compared to my other consoles. Take this as you will. Just don't go willy-nilly and accept IGN's review as top-notch. To be completely frank on my opinion on it, I think the review was too biased towards reflecting Nintendo's past results. I feel they went into it expecting it to be bad, and reviewed it as such. I went into it expecting the same, and let me tell you, it was completely different. I love it. IGN has a history of making piss-poor reviews based on the silly, obnoxious things, which leads me to not believe a lot of what they say. Editing their score, I would put it at an 8.5/10 or even a 9/10. It has flaws, but its purpose is effectively met with a few downsides with software or hardware.

It did have some amazing third party games, but even it’s first party support was unimpressive compared to past Nintendo consoles. I just got a switch recently, and playing oddyssey for the first time, I teared up a bit. As a kid, I dreamed of being able to play sunshine anywhere I went, and I'd try to imagine what a console that let me do that would look like. I smiled so much wishing I could go back in time and share that experience with myself. Sure it may not be the most powerful console, but Nintendo has never really been known for that. It's the innovation behind the switch that's so remarkable- anyone who grew up with nintendo would agree playing Zelda, Mario, and who knows what else on the go is a truly magical experience.

I got my Switch on launch day. It's still early days but I'm loving it so far. The inital setup was quick and effortless and despite reports I've had no joy-con/dead-pixel/scrathed screen issues. I'm a big Nintendo fan and I don't usually buy consoles early (got my Wii in 2011, my Wii-U in 2014), but I thought I'd change it up and support Nintendo early this time. Oh and Zelda BoTW is amazing BTW. I play it all the time, and when I'm not playing it, I constantly think about playing it, haha!

No console is perfect at launch, which is why I specifically (Nintendo fan) didn't purchase one in the first week. Eventually they'll release more games and fix bugs with software patches, but to compare the console directly to PS4 and Xbox One is completely ludicrous. At this point, Nintendo is clearly not looking to fight Sony and Microsoft in a power race, because if they did that, what would they have to differentiate themselves from the competition? Exclusives? That's a lot of money to be spending on multiple consoles just for their exclusives, which is exactly what would happen if Nintendo were to join the arms race. So, I don't give a damn if it's not as powerful as the XBox or PlayStation. I just want a cheap, unique console experience that I can't get anywhere else. Having Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 coming to it is an added bonus.

We just bought one here at the house. It's probably the best console I have ever had and I mean it. The form factor alone and the portability, along with the planned games make the Nintendo Switch hard to beat. This is one of those consoles that will be fully realized further down the road. Things can get expensive but I find myself wanting to spend the money. Overall great experience and I look forward to the future in owning it.

fightnight14 seems like PS4's launch was helped severely by the big 3rd party games that millions still buy every year like your COD games and sports games and the pirate assassins Creed game and so on, then Infamous SS as their launch exclusive (best infamous gameplay, weakest storyline) So PS4 and XB1 had a great deal more help at launch that the Switch does, that's not me throwing stones, its just a fact. Some super popular games that hardcores and casuals buy into annually were on there and that helped the transition, it made early adopters certain that whatever big blockbuster third party would drop, they'd get it and more. While Infamous was the PS4 launch's front game, it was all the other shit that made the difference and made people comfortable with jumping to the next gen. So though "THE GAME IS A-FOOT"'s comment was a bit blunt and hyperbolic, Switch with Breath of The Wild would be a drastically different scene and would've surely done significantly weaker numbers, so the dude has a point

Strilion the dock can get bent but Nintendo are categorising it as a defect and will replace it. The scratches on the screen however is a different story and depends where you live.

Thomas Crum It's not selling all that well. The only estimates so far have come out of Japan, roughly 330,000 units. That puts it between the Wii (370,000) and the U (310,000). We've gotten a PR statement from Nintendo saying it's the "fastest selling Nintendo console in North America", but that doesn't mean much (and they refuse to release sales figures proving that claim). Nintendo has a tendency to understock stores (hell, my local Target only got 3 consoles on launch day...) Why do they do this? So they can claim that every store is sold out, thereby making it more desirable in the eyes of the consumer. It's a practice they've done for years to trick people.

Thomas Crum 1 Console sales are slow in March because consoles don't come out in March. Launch is always a good for sales regardless of when that is. For example, the PS2 came out in March and sold 500,000 16 years ago. At the time that was a record. If they do hit 1 million worldwide sales, that's not incredible, that's on pace with the Xbox One. PS4 hit 1 million in North America alone. And let's talk about your estimate. UK sales are higher than the Wii U, but not even close to Xbox or PS4. The former got 150,000, the latter got 250,000. You use the 600,000 metric in North America, but that was a 6-8 sales report, not launch. I'd be very surprised if the Switch sold more in 1 day than the Wii did in 8. It's practically impossible. And after you get out of Japan, NA, and UK, sales drop dramatically. Australia only buys in the 10s of thousands, Malaysia in the thousands, and they're the biggest sales outside of the other regions. If they sell less than 1 million and they're sold out, then yes, they're limiting supply. There's no reason for them to be sold out in entire regions when they get such average sales numbers.

People complain about the Switch's horsepower, but I did not buy the Nintendo Switch to be used as a gaming powerhouse, I have my custom-built PC for that. I bought the Switch for the incredible game lineup Nintendo has coming out for it, the portability and innovation of the console, and for the fun gatherings with friends that Nintendo does such a great job providing for. I'm not using my Switch to play Fifa, Fallout, and the Witcher... I'm using it to play Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, Xenoblade, Sonic*, Metroid*, Pokemon*, and the countless other quality first party games Nintendo will release for the console.

Just my opinions (note: I haven't actually played the Switch yet, but I am well informed): The Switch is a console that isn't trying to compete with the PS4 or Xbox One, Nintendo is pulling another Wii. Aka, have a very large and broad targeted audience. I see the Switch as the perfect console for people who like regular console gaming but also like portable gaming (hardcore android/ios games, 3DS, etc). The Switch, like every console launch, has issues at launch however most of them aren't common, the only issue so far that I have seen that is complete bullshit is the straps. The Switch is far from perfect and far from ideal for hardcore gamers, but is a brilliant supplementary device for those of us who already have a powerhouse system. I personally believe the Switch is going to be a huge success. I'm seeing something I have not seen since the original Wii, and that is people that aren't typically gamers being interested in it. However only time will tell.

Agree. Comparing a Switch to a PS4/XbOne is like comparing a car to a bicycle...they are different things with different purposes. From a commercial perspective I doubt the Switch will be successful, because I really don't see it being for anyone other than hardcore Nintendo fans. For me, it looks like a dream, but for the price, I don't see many others that it is for. It lacks the thing every casual console gamer I know like, and that is sports games first, shooters second. I feel like 90% of the people I know play FIFA, Madden, NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA Tour, and some COD and Battlefield. When I talk to a lot of these people, they have no interest whatsoever in Nintendo games, and for them to pick a Switch up for 299+ all the other stuff you need, Pro Controllers, SD card, etc? It's just not happening, unfortunately for Nintendo. I think it will be very impressive if it sells more than 15M units. If they can ride the wave of Zelda now and keep pushing out releases, maybe get some good party feel going with MK8 Deluxe and a revolutionary party game, or one that goes "viral", then a Metroid release shortly after might be able to scoop up some of the people who bailed on the Wii U. So in a perfect scenario like this they might be able to generate interest for developers to push some more games onto it and maybe, maybe hit 20M sold consoles, but I really just don't see this happening. If the Switch had been 199, this would've been a completely different story. For me, it'll probably be my favorite console ever, and I'll probably love it more than I loved the 3DS and Wii U. Also, I don't get what people are so insecure about bashing it. Do you have like no life? I'm not a fan of PC gaming, PS4 or Xbox, but I'm happy they exist. Why would I have to bash them because they don't have Nintendo games??? It's like being angry at guitars because they aren't pianos.

To be completely honest, I wanted to adore this console, but, I think I might end up sitting out this round. Like someone said in the comments here: is it the console people love? Or is it just Zelda? And I totally agree with him/her. All I can hope at this point is that this console succeeds so that Nintendo can go out and make a Switch 2 with all the problems ironed out. I'm just not sure how it's gonna succeed if people don't want it for the same reasons as me... I feel like Nintendo really needed to just hit it home here, right off the bat, with no hiccups in order for people to buy this thing. The Xbox one x and s are on a whole nother level. They each support 4k (although the one s does through upscaling) which is something unheard of on the switch, a console that struggles to get 1080p and typically hovers around 900p. I've never had an issue with my Left Joycon ever. Especially when far away or have it connected to the Joygrip. To me I've been having an amazing Nintendo Switch experience, and I have over 30 hours already of Zelda alone when not in Handheld mode. It's amazing! This review profoundly misunderstands what the Switch is. The Switch is not trying to be "one of the most powerful consoles you can own today", which is why spec-wise it isn't spectacular. The true point of the Switch is to be a console ready at home and on-the-go. Giving backlash to the specs of the system is understandable, but focusing about 1/4 of the video on the specs and graphical power of the Switch just shows that this review misses the fact that although it is part home console, it isn't made to be very powerful since it is made to be part handheld. I believe that this review missed the point on the Switch being both a home and handheld console in one and isn't focused on specs and power, and took it as a PS4 or Xbox One (a very powerful home console) that can be taken on-the-go.

As a huge Nintendo fan myself, I don't see why people have a problem with the review. I like the switch and love the games, but the switch definitely has its problems. Also for people comparing this score to the scores for the other consoles, those are different people making the reviews. You can't expect people to have the same opinions and priorities.

The Nintendo GameCube was the first precursor to the Nintendo Switch because the GameCube was portable. There was a third-party attachable monitor for the GameCube which would allow you to play your GameCube game discs and the Game Boy Player add-on on the GameCube's monitor. The second precursor to the Nintendo Switch was the original Wii model where it had the GameCube parts built into it. And here is what I mean: after you are done playing your GameCube game discs on your original Wii, eject your GameCube game disc out of your original Wii, pop your GameCube game disc into your GameCube with the attachable monitor, close the GameCube's disc cover and take the GameCube with you on the go to a friend or a family member's house, find an outlet somewhere in the house, plug in your portable GameCube, turn on your GameCube and you are good to go. Simple as that.

Not really. The Wii U is more powerful than the PS3, and the Switch is more powerful than the Wii U. If you mean as far as gaming content then yeah the PS3 wins as of now. The Switch just came out though, and besides it's hard to compare to other consoles because of it's weird hybrid design.
