That last stage warehouse level was some BULLSHIT! Even watching it years later it’s still trauma inducing. This game heavily contributed to my fear of exploring vast abandoned multi-level factory buildings occupied by suburban skate gangs and teenaged kidnappers. ANY police presence whatsoever in this town could’ve corrected every issue

I could get to the last level but never find Ice pick. So cool to see the end. The half with the spine in the middle is still so fun to play today. I lived in East northport Long Island back in 1990 and Elwood was another town near by. I always thought the game was based near me. Any who, always loved the intro!!

Same here, I lived in Brentwood Long Island in 1990. Enjoyed the intro, got to the last level, never bothered to find Icepick, and I enjoyed the half pipe too. To be fair to both of us, that last level is a mess. Looks like it was intentionally cryptic to increase playtime.

Only rented the Skate or Die games. The first one I was disappointed. Especially considering how popular it was. It just wasn't the fun I hoped for. The second game really surprised me. Completely different type of game and particularly original. Fast pace action and a wild and crazy game.

I played the ramp part of this game more than any other thing on my NES. (Probably 2nd was Kirby and California Games). Figured out the best lines to max out my score where you can rocket in each corner up off the screen and get bonus points, but once you use them up a bird will come flying down and chase you. I played the story mode maybe once or twice. Also played the first one and Ski or Die like crazy. I craved a game like this for YEARS on Genesis or SNES and never found anything. It wasn’t until a demo disc came out that had Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater came out for PS1 that I put in more time on a game. Wore that demo disc out waiting for the full game. So many hours playing trying to figure out the best runs in games like these.

I remember playing this on a rental from Blockbuster and using strategy guides(probably from Nintendo Power?) to finish. The whole intro, plotline and soundtrack was extremely memorable to say the least. The game design and control scheme was inscrutable C64 style bullshit - makes great back-of-the-box screenshots, very hard to come to grips with, over quickly once you know what to do. You can really feel them stretching out the playthrough time with that last maze. Icepick seems to have a gang of like 300 dudes and he's the only one that doesn't skate.

@@r.j.etrogames Youre close. That 1-bit PCM sound takes up so much memory that it made the game a 3 megabit cartridge. Its not just the song title, the drums used throughout the levels, and the digitized speech took up that much room (Konami did this too). EA paid Rob Hubbard a LOT of money to stop being a freelance music composer and to work full time at EA, we will never know how much he was paid, but I bet he was paid more than the rest of the programming staff at the time.
