For original machines there are 3 cup sizes to choose from, these being ristretto, espresso and lungo. What do they all mean, which capsules should you use and how do you make them? Find out in this video.
We also explain the Vertuo or Vertuoline cup sizes too. With this machine you can choose from espresso, double espresso, gran lungo, mug and alto. Each have different uses which we explain in this video.

I’m a barista and I’ve DREAMED of owning my very own espresso machine and recently I purchased the NESPRESSO INISSIA! I’m in love! It came with a small sample box of capsules! I’ve always worked with normal espresso and ristretto shots in lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos etc. At home I’m just making lattes and latte macchiatos, lungo however is a brand new concept for me! How do you take your lungo shots? I’m going to look through your great channel!

Glad you’ve finally got your machine! To be honest I tend to drink the other drinks you mentioned as not a great fan of lungos (find them a little bitter) Hope you enjoy the channel 👍🏼

Yes, espresso and milk proportion is quite personal. A little bit sugar added also preferable.

I just bought an Essenza mini after watching your video. Every video is super useful, thank you very much. I have a question, how could I make a ristretto (25ml). The default setting only includes espresso and lungo.

Hi there, you have to press and hold the espresso button for the correct length of time. Might be worth watching our ‘how to make a ristretto’ video and also our ‘how to reset the cup size’ video when you’re done to set it back to the default cup sizing. Hope this helps.

You might've answered this, but I'm 3 minutes in, and I don't think you did. Machine has 2 buttons.. But capsules has 3 sizes. Is the small cup on the machine, a ristretto or espresso? The big cup, is it an espresso or lungo? Are both the small and big, a lungo? Are 2 small cups, espresso and lungo? Are 2 big cups the lungo? or that's something else? And aren't 2 small cups = 1 big cup?

Hi 👋 I’m guessing you have an OriginalLine machine. If so then… The small cup button = Espresso Big cup button = Lungo If you want a ristretto and only have those two buttons then you’ll need to reprogram the cup size on the small cup button to pour less coffee volume. We have a video on the channel showing how to reset the cup size. Hope this helps.

@@A2BProductions It does help thank you. Yeah I know how to reprogram it, but wouldn't be much easier to have a third button, since they use these 3 specific cup sizes. The whole idea of the machine is to have a cup of coffee with least amount of effort. Anyway, thanks a lot

Hi, I just got my first nespresso the other day and I'm going to need to make an order pretty quick. I have a question about the caffeine content. Between the 3 sizes does one have more caffeine? My husband has been running every pod through the lungo button and then adding water to make an americano (removing the pod before adding the water) I'm thinking now that might not be the best idea. I guess, for him, I'm needing to know how to get the most caffeine, and does the level of intensity make a difference? Thank you Oh, I have the original nespresso machine.

Hi there. Nespresso don't really list the individual caffeine content for each capsule. As a general rule though it's best to only use the Lungo capsules with the Lungo button and would probably work better for you to run 2 shots of espresso (2 non-lungo pods) into a mug and then add water for the Americano. We actually made a video a few months ago where we tested different ways of making Americanos, maybe that might help. Also while intensity doesn't directly correlate with caffeine content I'd imagine the more intense pods have more chance of being higher in caffeine as more likely to have robusta beans in it, which often contain more caffeine (or so I've read 😅). Think I also read in an online forum once that the Kazaar capsule has the most caffeine but don't know for sure. Hope some of this helps though.

Can you run the same pod twice as an en espresso for double shot?

It’s not recommended to be honest but you could try 🤔 It’s usually best to pour one shot per pod

Can I use coffee, gran lungo, or any other pod to have a double espresso? or will it turn out wrong? i got a bunch of pods with my vertuo and for the holiday but am unsure of how it works

The VertuoLine capsules have a barcode I'm afraid, meaning they can only be used for that particular size of coffee. The barcode tells the machine how much water to pour.

Hi there, Think you're meaning the intensity level of the capsule. If it's a 12 then it will be intense and usually a longer and darker roast, if it's a 3 or 4 then it will be more mellow and lighter. Hope that's what you were asking.

How can I choose the coffee size? For example, I put a capsule in that is supposed to make 230ML, but it went past that and I had to stop it manually.

Hi. You can't actually choose the coffee size with the Vertuo as they have a barcode on the capsules to let the machine know what size to make. It's worth noting that the foam on the Vertuo coffee can be quite thick, so you'll need a cup that'll hold at least around 320ml off the top of my head for some of the 230ml capsules. Hope this helps.

Oh that's strange. Is it definitely Nespresso compatible pods you're using? Also the VertuoLine capsules are very different in size and shape to the OriginalLine pods.
