@@LifeHackster can you unlock the door from anywhere like while your at work or the store or do you have to be standing in bluetooth range to unkock it?
@zolartan44425 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster actually, your average exterior door comes with a packet, usually containing a weather strip patch to seal a small gap at a corner, and 1 3" screw. That screw is for leveling the door to the frame. With 9-12 screws in the frame across 3 wide spread load points, is a lot of load spreading so not to much worry there.. The hinge side of a door rarely breaks. The weak point is latch side, only 4 screws.. 2 contact points. 2 small contact points.. close together. This concentrates the impact force to a small area. 3" screws are your best bet there in the latch plates. Don't worry to much about hinge side.

I have found this video to be very helpful. I wanted to add this tip in case anyone else has the issue I had. I had to get a new wifi router. I could not get the Nest Connect to re-connect to the wifi. Nothing I tried would connect the lock or the connect. I finally discovered that the lock has a reset button located on the back. Although I did not find specific information stating that you need to reset it to add it to a new wifi I did do this and the Connect and the lock set up perfectly.

Thanks for the tip. Most of these devices have a reset button somewhere and it needs to be pushed whenever there is a change on the WiFi settings.

Thank you for your quality reviews! I recommend turning Spaces ON in your Nest app settings. Then assign devices to thier respective spaces. I.E. have Nest Hello and Nest Yale assigned to Entryway. That way, in the summary view you could see people and access door locks easier. It is not as slick as the competition's set up, yet. At least viewing and controls are more organized and accessible.

And I absolutely agree with you about the nest hello doorbell not giving you the option to unlock the door right from the video. All of this tech is supposed to make things easier not complicated with more steps. Hopefully with an update they can add that in which I'm sure could be done.

I'm glad you were able to get that Nest Connect to actually "connect". Many people, including myself, were unable to do so as it has a known bug that knocks one's router offline and needing a hard reset prior to the pairing process being completed. The routers seem to be random. Nest support is aware of this issue and has been working on this issue for months! Nevertheless, sick of frustration and waiting, I was forced to buy the Nest Secure at $400 in order to have the lock pair with the Nest app and work as advertised. No cool.

Lifehackster, based on your review I bought this. It worked great for 1 week. I've had it for 3weeks connected on 2.4ghz channel. It is literally two feet from the Nest Connect. It's been offline 90% of the time after that first week. It usually goes offline around 3am. Then it is offline for 3 or for days. Resetting and removing batteries worked exactly one time. After that, nothing. I will be returning it. It is trash. If you set autolock and leave the door open, say, to bring groceries in, the lock activates. You risk shutting the door and damaging the door jam. So ultimately, it is a dumb lock since it does not detect when the door is open. You need to do a follow up review. Also, if you accidentally enter your pin incorrectly(fat fingers) thinking you entered correctly, you get locked out of your home. If the unit is offline, you are up the creek without a paddle. The Instructions don't say how long it will take to reset so that you can enter it again. Your videos are good, but this one is very misleading. NEST YALE HAS OFFLINE ISSUES!
@LifeHackster5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you have issues. I have been using mine still and I have no offline issues. There are a couple of instances that when electricity was out, the Nest connect didn’t reconnect which I have to reset (remove a battery for a bit) ...and since I installed it, I replaced the batteries 1 time... and we use the lock at least 4-5 times a day.
@garyjnj15 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster What I have found (No thanks to Google, Nest or Nest Yale/Connect written in instructions) is that the Nest Thermostat, Nest Connect, Nest Protect and Nest Yale lock all must not only be on the same network, but if a wifi extender is used, they all must be signed on to that device. If not, the Nest Yale connection will be be spotty at first then it will not connect at all. The Nest Connect retrieves its server data from the Protects. It is heavily dependant on those devices at setup. Since the Protects can be on a a different wifi device(say router direct), it passes that data to the Nest Connect. That causes disjointed info going back and forth between the Nest Thermostat unless it too is directly connected to the the same device. Crazy....

As m9j16 said, I so want Ring to make or integrate with a smart lock. If they can have it the alarm, doorbell, cameras and lock all work in the same app...wow, talk about nice! If you can, I would love a review of the Ultraloq UL3 BT, but you have to get a module for wi-fi access. Yale does look nice, but we have a turn doorknob that gets used most of the time and not the deadbolt. Deadbolt is usually only at night or if we are gone on a trip.

I would like a smart lock that covers the bottom turn doorknob and the upper dead bolt. All these smart locks just secure the upper dead bolt but use just a push button or no lock for the bottom.
