I grew up in the town where this tv show was made. I cringed at the constant comments of it being "an empty town". Sauble beach has always been a charming, simple place. It used to be a place that people could have a decent vacation on a small budget. In the past few years, it had been "discovered" and is changing in a way that makes me sad. The community that lives here is not trendy or in-touch with trends. However the people and the First Nations communities that live here will continue to live here for years to come....I wish they would acknowledge what's already there instead of painting it as a ghost town.

Omg, I'm very sorry! Gentrification socks everywhere. I've seen old, historical buildings in my country being transformed in hotels that look like a mix of Ikea, Restoration Hardware, Wayfair, and Pottery Barn in an bad, bad way, that it totally doesn't match the exterior nor the history of the building. But people look the other way because Instagram! The heck!

Yup, all I can see is their lack of design technique and skill. I get doing a trendy motel but there is a way to do it smart and then there is........this. The wood paneling for example - typically I would agree it's dated but the angling really gives it a different look. That space would have been 100000x more Instagram-able if they had kept the wood and focused on trendy accents. It would have looked better in general, it wouldn't look as cheap AND it would make it way easier to update so that it stays trendy instead of getting stuck in one aesthetic. And honestly, I am with Paige - the "Rose all day" vibe is already out.
@TimeQuxxn3 жыл бұрын
DO NOT get rid of that wood paneling. It's such a gem and I rarely see people keep it. Definitely will be trendy in 5 years when everyone has finally gentrified their late 60's -80's homes. Personally, I think painting the wood paneling white outdated the space even more. I don’t fully understand why people continue to paint over genuine wood. Also, the motel renovation could have been done in a way that it still blended into the fabric of the city: warmer colors, vintage furniture, reusing pieces already in the space, etc. But, I guess cheap, fast, and “instagrammable” was the focus…

One of my biggest issues with the show so far is that I feel like the decorations aren’t practical for a motel. They’re 100% gonna have some of those “instagrammable” decorations stolen, not to mention that they’re decorating the rooms for bachelorette parties and not the many other people who will be staying there. Also, in the second episode they don’t even hang up the frames above the bed but instead lean them above the bed on the headboard which seems like an accident waiting to happen. I feel like they’re decorating for someone’s bedroom and not a motel room, this show genuinely made me frustrated LOL. Excited for a second video on this!!!

Sauble Beach was "unknown" about 10 years ago (and as a local, it was great), but now is a pretty big tourist attraction - it's packed in the summer, as it is one of the best sand beaches in Ontario. One of the biggest issues is lack of accommodation for people who drive up from Toronto and other places, but renovating a cheap motel isn't the right approach to solving that problem. Sidenote, I knew about this show because the women are alumni of the same university as me, which promoted the show in the alumni newsletter LOL

THANK YOU. My family is from Bruce County and I spent every summer in Sauble Beach growing up. I stayed at the former Knight's Inn several times. I am disgusted by what these women did to the place, taking it from like $100 a night to $400, and their vision for what the town should be. It's a rural vacation community and the First Nation owns half the beach. It is not empty or gross or whatever these chicks said (I haven't watched the show myself because I don't want to have a stress-induced stroke, but I've heard a lot of what they said). I hope that this style looks incredibly dated and cheesy in ten years (moreso than it already does to anyone but the worst Instagram #girlbosses anyway) and the place goes under so it can be an affordable motel again.

Also the pics they show of businesses boarded up and whatever trying to make it look like a ghost town that they're going to rescue... it's because they're there in the WINTER. Since everyone from Ontario is commenting.. I’m from Ontario and this motel is located in Sauble beach which has been a tourist destination FOREVER. It’s one of the very first nice beaches I ever visited as a city kid from Toronto. This motel is also close to Tobermory, the emerald blue water place mentioned -another peak Ontario tourist destination, these are not ghost towns but prime tourist destinations due to their natural beauty. In the winter they may be quiet and very much like a peaceful small town where everything closes super early and all the lights look dark but during peak summer season ALL the motels / hotels are booked weeks in advance . So what they are doing is creating semi nice spaces where sometimes there aren’t any... I’ve visited tourist destinations during peak season and $110 ight is the bare minimum for often a room you worry may have hidden spy cameras in the walls and is infested with mold. I’m cheap so $100ish is ok for me but during peak for anyone who makes more than me.. $200 is. A steal for a room that looks even cheaply decorated.

I agree in that although I dislike their style, I think their business idea is smart. People will definitely pay upwards of $200 per night for a trendy room in a beach town. I think the episodes on the restaurant and pool space were most interesting - tons of shows and youtube channels tackle bedrooms and kitchens all the time. I liked the parts that were unique to it being a motel.

If the beach town has an actual beach that's worth it, it could have something, but this town is simply a coastal town. People would prefer to camp outside than to pay $200 a night for a tacky room. Believe me, been there, and also, I work at hospitality.

You can hate their style, but you have to respect their adaptability and resilience when the pandemic hits (Episode 5).

I love the idea for Sauble as it’s an Ontario hotspot, but I couldn’t stand the owners. The vocal fry and the bizarre city mouse vibe just put me off. There are some really cool B&Bs in that area that have a totally different look: natural woods, lots of light, rock/stone. Not 1970s cheap. 🤨

Thank you for mentioning the vocal fry. It was comical. But also made me want to murder someone. Can't stand it.

And apparently, they're cheaper, cozier, and highly reviewed, as I searched the net.

@@QueenSelene88 if you ever want to getaway in this area of Ontario, I recommend Southampton! Less of a drunk shit show 😂

I thought the kitchen cabinets looked better before they got painted. It had one of those cozy nostalgic late-60s early-70's vibes to it. Now it kinda looks like the pictures you get when you search for interior pictures of 1-star rated hotels in NYC you see on TripAdvisor. Just when bare wood was just starting to come bak into style.

This is hilarious. I live in Southern Ontario, near Sauble, and the June Motels have been plastered all over my social feeds for years. Thank you for making me feel less weird about hating it.

haha OM*G !! Thx for the diversion, kind of like a car accident! They get a B- on effort, D on style, and I want to harm myself from their presentation; voices and style!
