@queenmoreau20983 жыл бұрын
I guess cause they said it was their summer house, so they only came out there for the summer. But he said he had been in the area all year. So I think he broke into their house while they were gone cause it's by the lake. He was using it for this purpose probably for months before they showed up. When the mom showed up early to the house (cause she said she came out to the house earlier before she picked up the girl from summer camp), that's when he met her and started dating her which gave him even more access to the house. So I think for him to still be able to come and go from the house, he had no choice but to start dating the mom when she showed up for the summer.

I’m so confused 😭 why is he a lizard? why does he need women? Why does he have buckets of salt when it can hurt him? What’s his goal? Is he trying to take over the world? Why is the mom an idiot? Why is Liberty ok with him drinking his own sweat? That’s a total turn off but she’s still going for him?? HELP ME 🤧 idk what’s going on
@Persephoness3 жыл бұрын
He is a lizard alien from another planet. He said he was studying the Lamprey's ability to survive in both salt and fresh water. This leads us to believe that his planet has some kind of issue with finding women to breed and so they came to earth to study the Lamprey to see if they could mutate Earth women enough to take them back to their planet where I'm guessing its mostly water. The bracelet he gives Libby in the beginning seems to have been the reason she had such a massive period, because he not only targeted the mom but he was most definitely after Libby too. In the finale scenes, Libby sees some glow in the dark alien text on both her wrist and her moms in the basement, which points to him being shady from the drop. - Somewhere during the movie when Libby crashed the car into the lake and its lights went on there is a shadow of some type of triangular ship in the water. I'm guessing production didn't have enough money to go full Monty and show the entire ship. - As to the buckets of salt, we as humans study all sorts of deadly poisons to aid us in health research and medicine, its not too far to imagine they would do the same. - Libby did tell her friend that he grossed her out drinking his own sweat, but she stopped being attracted to him during and after the boat scene. Hope that helps ;}

I think he's just trying to find a way for his species to survive. Remember his water demonstration and how he made it clear that the world is basically running out of freshwater. Then he had a whole spiel about the lamprey and how it can survive in fresh and saltwater environments? I'm guessing it would be important to his species that they also be able to do that if there won't be much freshwater left in the world and clearly, his kind can only survive in freshwater at the moment, so he's trying to find some way to adapt to saltwater environments. Can't test it out if there's no salt water around lol. I'm also confused about the sweat drinking though, there's usually salt in sweat so maybe he's testing his ability to withstand it incrementally with all the working out and sweat drinking. Pretty sure there's also salt in blood.
@kurlykayla90133 жыл бұрын
@@vheart9514 Hi there, maybe I can help with your sweat-drinking question (a sentence I never thought I'd say, but let's roll with it). A theory on reddit suggests that he isn't in fact drinking his own sweat, but rather, the accumulated water left in his clothes after submerging himself in the lake. The idea is that his "marathon runs" are just a front, and he's actually spending time in the lake during his disappearances. Since he is an aquatic creature, he needs to be in contact with water constantly, and I believe the director said they tried to have John in or near water in almost all his scenes (i.e. him randomly standing in the water while talking to Libby, or him dipping his dirty ass fingers in the glass of water). This "sweat-drinking" incident can be considered an extension of that, and because we know he has an aversion to sodium, we can assume he's not drinking sweat, but water from the lake. Why the director chose to make this film so cryptic and seemingly inexplicable, I don't know. But I hope that explanation helps fill in at least one of the many missing pieces to the puzzle that is this story.

Looks like the reason why he needed redheads was because redheads are the only ones his kind can procreate with. Libby and her mom are natural redheads that dyed their hair, it might have been to show that he can sense the genes and not just goes after visuals. The man that looked like him was a clone and there are many others that look like him but all have different personalities- it's to attract different kinds of women. It's like an exoskeleton that they slip-on. The glowing ball lets her breathe underwater and at the end of the movie, she smiles because she realizes she can breathe underwater. All in all, it's meant to be weird and unsettling. He's literally not human and from another planet, so he does freaky things not just because he's a freak (he's that too lol) but because his kind doesn't think like ours. God, what a weird movie

Given how they establish that there are multiple Johns (maybe an amoeba or hivemind situation) and there's the implication that they have infested the town, not having her not drive to civilization feels like a HUGE missed opportunity. Just imagine that, as she's frantically trying to find a police station, she is cut off by one of the Johns. She turns tail and runs, trying to get him to lose track of her, but no matter where she goes there's always another John around the corner. The Johns start to coordinate and now there's swarms of them pouring out of the alleys to hunt her down. She has no choice but to abandon the town if she wants to see the sun tomorrow.

@@TheGoldenAlchemist86 i think it's bc the euro-centric beauty standards are easily expressed by the almost 200-years old common saying, "i like my men/women tall, dark, and handsome" [it initially was used for those 2 genders, but since the beginning of the 1900s it started to mainly only be used to describe men]. i didnt know til last summer when they say dark people they most often mean people with brown hair, brown eyes, tan (but still white) skin. i had thought they meant ppl w/ actual "dark" skin tones but ofc😒the dark part of that saying can be interpreted differently. another way some ppl think of it is the sort of stoic mysterious personality someone may have being described as dark, which would also apply to this guy since he's a fucking creepy ass dude. and some ppl do mean people with actual dark skin tones, but since the saying's first use has been traced back to a paper someone wrote in 1833 europe, i don't think that that was probably the initial meaning :/

I think the blood thing is included because he's a lamprey alien thing. I think the things in the tank with the friend's body are lampreys, amd they're parasitic organisms (like John). Also, he'd need the salt for experiments related to salinity (although he probably shouldn't have left the salt in open containers that he could spill on himself or become contaminated with other chemicals). The sweat thing still doesn't make sense, though.
