@mattb1543 жыл бұрын
Mecha anime (not just Gundam) is kind of a separate thing from mainstream anime at this point. Some of that is probably that the transition to producing mainly light novel adaptations hasn't been kind to the genre. The seasonal anime format likewise probably doesn't help when it comes to telling complicated political stories. And I guess it's suffering from being seen as a boomer thing, too. Gigguk actually made a really good video about it a while back.
@kingmanic3 жыл бұрын
@@mattb154 I think Japans taste in it reflects where they're at. Japanese in the 80s and 90s were hopeful about technology and the future and imagined all the amazing tech we'd have... And now they just want to get hit by a truck so they can stop working and stare at some fantasy world titties.
@kaikawasumi3 жыл бұрын
I'm biased. I feel like in a lot of the mainline (universal century) shows that isn't the case. The original Gundam protagonist studied it in books/notes about the mech before he first piloted it. Sure, it's not the most believable situation but his dad was a borderline genius & maybe he just was too in his own way.
@usnlynn793 жыл бұрын
It's true, but also... Code Geass: Politics, Eva=Politics, Gundam Wing...Politics, Knights and Magic, War on Geminar, Infinite Stratos, Darling in the Franxxx... Politics. Even if they are just supposed to be a mecha fighting anime, they throw people from every country together, or have some big secret political thing going on with the government running the program.
