The slow world building in Overlord I absolutely love. I love how it takes it time so much with everything making me crave more and more. Funnily enough, I think Season 3 was my favorite followed by 1 and then 2.

I think they missed on the details of overlord. You’d have to watch it 4-5 times and read a little bit of lore to truly find its value. Once you do the story is even better then mushoku tensei.

Man, I understand about Grimgar but it hurts to see in F tier so much. I honestly gave it a 9 out of 10 because of how in love with the characters, storyline, world and art style I was but I definitely do see the issues with how the story was laid out and shown to us. The main thing that kept me going was seeing them having to come to turns with killing a goblin and how hard it was because no one was really putting their all into their attacks. It just captured me at that point and I wanted to see their evolution in that world. Imagine how popular it could have been if it had just been a little bit different. And also, it feels like way too much went into the music and how they had to show it off every other episode by just taking up time.

Another thing I think is worth mentioning is that not only if you don't like one show from IQ, or 5, now that you have Shield Hero, it's gonna not entertain you as much, you'd also have to have seen all 5 shows, or at least maybe 3 to understand half the callbacks and references, or you'll just be lost in the wind.

@@lovepoem7753 I read it, my honest opinion: the character progression is cool, story has an end game which is great, but as an isekai it lacks adventure. It's more of a hack n slash action anime rather than an isekai, dungeons are pretty lame isekai consept, and some of the side characters are pretty dull. I love the manga and keeps a bm for it's update, but I don't read it as an isekai but an action manhua.

Re:Zero the anime is definitely fantastic but it just misses a single point in that it does not have a very well established main plotline. Another example is Tensura, getting off-topic as an example. How every single monster that met Rimuru and joined him is worshipping and hyping him essentially kissing his ass. Even if they did it on their own accord it still feels cringe to me.

I'd say my favorite isekai of all time, even more so than any isekai nowadays, would have to be The Twelve Kingdoms, that series was amazing~ My dad usually was a fan of Fushigi yugi and it was always fun to compare the two. It was him with his Fushigi yugi and me with my Twelve Kingdoms~

@@SangerZonvolt the animation of grimgar may have been good, but the story was frankly very very boring, arifureta was the opposite, trash animation but okay-ish story (from and entertainment stand point), seeing the MC edginess was at very least entertaining to watch (the only bad things where when they showed his classmates pov, which nobody cared about), it really comes to good animation but stupidly boring story and bad cgi but edgy MC that keeps you hooked on his edginess

@@colorx6030 But the fight was good not only because of the animation, but because of the emotional impact, the weight and the choreografy. And it was just one point. The series was kinda slow at points, but it kept you on edge because the world and the consequences felt realistic (eealistic within their own fantasy rules, maybe genuine is the better word). Quite frankly I couldnt finish Arifuertas first episode because of how borderline retarted it seemed. For me it seemed like the very worst kind of edgy. The one where everyone acts like a cartoon villain because they were written by a 5 year old. That one Goblin they killed in the first fight of Grimgar had a more reasonable developed feel to him than any of the protagonists in Arifuerta.

This tier list is almost perfect to me, I think the only changes are Id bump both Gate and Shield Hero up to a B. Gate because I think it does a lot of other things really well besides the whole "JSDF goes and shoots up a fantasy world with guns" (which you have to watch it because its hard to explain, theres a lot of diplomacy between nations and politics and stuff, its great) and Shield Hero because I think it did a really good job of telling the story it wanted to tell. I have a hard time disagreeing with any of the other shows (that Ive watched)

Swap Grimgar to B and Slime to F. Slime is one of the most uninspired generic anime I've seen, meanwhile Grimgar is, while a slow burn, excellent at everything it does. In general finding anime that don't instantly devolve into shouting match "over 9000" power battles is extremely rare, Grimgar is exceptional.

Grimgar was fantastic! wtf? It isn't the most hype thing or the most over the top, but it has the most charm. It has slow moments where they are chilling making breakfast in the morning before goblin hunting. They take a day off and go do their hobbies, like Ranta fishing while watching Yume rock climbing in the distance. It has realistic moments where they pool money to buy their warrior a helmet so he can tank better. It's more of a fantasy slice of life than a full blown epic adventure.

What? No, they are parodies of the archetypes. That's why they are good. The show doesn't take itself seriously, it is a comedy. Whether you find them funny is up to you, but shield hero acts to be a serious show, so when Filo ends up nearly kicking his crotch for the 100th time, it ruins that kind of serious tone, and the actual weight of carrying the entire world on Naofumi's shoulders.

The sad thing is, I think they could have taken the antagonists in a much better way, having Myne say what she actually feels about the shield hero divorced from his "rape" of her. This is how the execution, in my opinion, should have gone: When they were about to be executed, she starts sprouting nonsense, until the end, where she looks Naofumi in the eyes with eyes of hatred, despite Naofumi not doing anything to her. Then, the king would close his eyes, disappointed that he failed to raise her correctly, and sees how his greed for vengeance got the better of him. Naofumi would then come down, yelling at the king, kicking him, saying that he should not just live for the country's success, but also it's failures. The king refuses to open his eyes, still. Then, Naofumi tells the executioners to release them, citing that a death would be too merciful for trash and bitches like them, which is how he got the idea for trash and bitch. The king, now with his name gone, looks up with not anger, but guilt, as if he brought it onto himself, unlike Malty, who is angry at her father for not speaking out.

Re:Zero for me is one of my all time favorites. For me personally only Re:Zero and Konosuba deserve S-tier. I loved Log Horizon but that is incomparably below those 2 so I'd put that in A-tier. I guess that speaks to the kind of person I am though... because Kazuma and Natsuki (and Kyon from Haruhi) are my favourite MC's of all time and they're all pretty similarly sarcastic. :)

@@ayporos Log Horizon is ranked higher based on the fact of how brilliant it's written and how broad the things that had been explored, more than Re zero can be. That said, they do have one season advantage over Re zero, and that there's season 3 coming up, but having reading a bit after season 1 ended, Season 2 of Re Zero will definitely makes its way into the S tier, but as thing is now, season 1 doesn't make it as good as Log Horizon. Also, people loves Re Zero more becuz of the charm that the show gives, which Log Horizon is not focused on, thus people doesn't as much enjoys it. But on an analytical level, Log Horizon is a better show.

While the premise and story of Re:Zero might be simpler and less complex it is more meaningful to me because the premise is just amazing. Log Horizon is 'merely' a smart guy thrown into a game world and then dealing with that game world.. Re:Zero is an emotional thriller that really hits you at the core of your being. There's a reason Beethoven is considered a genius and his music is still remembered, played and loved right now.. Not because it was more complex than the music of other composers, but EXACTLY because it focused more on what really mattered and wasn't bloated with extra fat. A good story (based on the hero's journey) involves overcoming not only external obstacles but also internal. Natsuki has to deal with this whereas the MC from Log Horizon really doesn't.. Natsuki is a true hero, the MC from Log Horizon (I forgot his name sorry) never really has to overcome any hardship so the story is less meaningful.

Mad respect on the Tier List since I do agree a lot of your points towards SAO. I'm also one of the people who started to drop it when the second half of season 1 was aired and the pacing of just every episode of SAO in Season 1 and 2 was really inconsistent. I managed to start watching the Alicization Arc and it went smoothly as why didn't Season 1 and 2 came up with this concept cause no offense to the SAO fans out there but it was really out of place on how the anime was portrayed. Almost like the decent characters in the anime are likely Asuna and Sinon. I wanted to know more of anyone's thoughts if there is something I lack to share my opinions. Thank you

Even with the addition of Shield Hero, they still advertised it with the same 4 franchises and, in the second season of the show, it is exactly that.

Nah I would even bump it back to B sadly. It's begun to be over the top for me. I'm glad for more story building (which is the only thing keeping me watching at this point) but the rest really didn't leave an impression. Then again I dislike one male main with a bunch of female supporting characters (yes Felix is a man...). I know there are plenty more male characters, but they can't really be considered supporting characters to the main character in my opinion. And Subaru still really annoys me. I can't relate to him nor can I feel any sympathy for him either, I can't even laugh at him and that's the main character. Anyway I understand why people really like it, cause there are some really cool scenes and it's definitely a good show, so I hope people can understand why I'm not a huge fan (I doubt it though seeing all the Re zero fanatics).

I think Gate should have been at least B if we’re just talking about the uniqueness of it. I liked that they incorporated politics in it in a realistic way. Like the way politicians like stirring up drama just to get the public’s sympathy (loved the scene where the female senator gets schooled by Rory), or the way other powerful countries like US and Russia were scrambling to get more info on the other world and get their hands on the resources from it. Sure there were a lot of tropes, but they were done in a satirical way sometimes that it’s fun. It is action and adventure as much as it is a slice of life series. You could tell in the world building how proud the creator is in the Japanese’s efficiency. A lot of the scenes were also really super funny. Yes, I loved that show. It’s A to S tier for me 😆

as someone who is currently watching season 4 right now, I can confidently say seasons 1 and 2 are absolute bangers but season 3 is a HEAVY dip in quality, but season 4 came back not being horrible

i love sao , one of the first anime that i watch , and what gigguk say are absolutely true and the first 2 episode is insane and im so much love the concept( that's why i hooked up with this anime) what can i say the aincrad arc are best and fairy dance arc just decent , not that good , i just love to see kirito live in real life , for the second season , it's getting better in ggo , and the arc where kirito go went to hunt the excalibur , it's great to watch. Mostly i can say , it's getting better and better , alicization is the best arc , war of underworld are best too ,but maybe we cant see kirito as much that we usually see him in the show.
