it's not just him, it is a societal/cultural thing/underline. they both played into it, not to say that it wasn't to "save" the honor of the man. Unless you see the whole picture of everyone being affected, incl. the taboo of infertility for a man, under which he also suffered (he had several operations and still couldn't stand up to his parents. His parents include one woman, btw.) you are just handing out blame to no success.
